  • No one has said burgers yet...so I will!
  • Is it paleo hummus? Otherwise its not really Whole 30...
  • I make it like 2 hr broccoli - with bacon and bacon fat and olive oil in a pot or crockpot for a few hours. If I'm not lazy I saute up half an onion, garlic, and anchovy into the oil. A little pepper and Real Salt.

  • You can cook with olive oil. The anti-oxidants will protect it from being damaged if you stick with low heat. I like over easy eggs with it :)
  • You need a new probiotic, yours is probably dead. Also add more fermented foods, and more soluble fiber carbs like winter squash, sweet potato, plantains, etc.
  • Good for you! I recommend the book "Real food for mother and baby" by Nina Planck. Also check out the blog "Wellness Mama" (wellnessmama.com)
  • That Paleo Mom article is a good one. I plan on buying some plantain chips to make plantain flour soon!
  • Venison with port wine reduction 2 hour broccoli butternut squash with grass fed butter In order to recover from a stressful weeklong road trip, yesterday I ate 2 dozen raw oysters and a big hunk of liver with onions. POW! That's how I felt the next day.
  • If you want to use coconut oil for the health benefits you could switch to refined coconut oil or red palm oil (I'm not sure what that tastes like but I hear it doesn't have a coconut taste).
  • Low-carb can affect your thyroid hormones and your mood. It made me crabby, lethargic, and hypothyroid. Try adding more starches and fruit.
  • I am doing a cross of AI with GAPS. I don't have an autoimmune disease that was helped by the protocol, I just found that some of the items it eliminates helped my digestion, like nuts. I do have Celiac Disease with an associated skin disease (possibly DH) but that hasn't reappeared since I went GF 7 years ago. My…
  • I think that your meats are too lean. Try fattier chicken cuts, braised beef cuts like chuck, 75% ground beef instead of 90. I find that eating lean cuts of meat makes me ravenous, even if I am eating enough fat in the form of dairy.
  • Refined stevia is a glycoside, not a saccharide: ie, not a sugar. It contains a sugar molecule bound to other molecules. Not comparible to sugarbeets or cane. At 300x sweetness than sugar, that is why it has no caloric value when used in amounts that create a sweetness comparible to sugar. Am I sure it does not produce an…
  • Stevia is not a sugar, it is an herb. And it does not produce an insulin response. Hope that helps.
  • You can get lots of calcium from bone broth and leafy greens! Calcium supplements have been shown to be actually bad because they are not bioavailable and have been linked to heart attacks.
  • Leg cramps can also be not enough sodium, magnesium, and potassium. Eat more sodium. Seriously salt your food! I make sure to put salt on almost everything. Try Natural Calm magnesium supplement (I like orange!) If you eat lots of grass fed beef, bananas, and sweet potatoes you probably get enough potassium.
  • In fact I was pointing out that it is different for different people. I said that I eat 3 meals a day but others may be different, but if you are eating more than 4 meals a day there is probably something wrong with that and you probably need more fat and protein in your meals. If you eat until you are full/satisfied, you…
  • Sorry, I disagree. Constantly jacking up your insulin is not good. Constantly eating does not keep your insulin levels "even". That's mostly a CW myth. Your body needs a break. Your digestive system needs a break. I would say eat 4 meals tops. I eat 3, and some paleo men eat 1-2. I tried IFing and eating less, but it…
  • I think you might have to get rid of the dairy in your own house and go dairy free for awhile. It might make your son feel jealous that you get to have the grownup forbidden food and he can't. And a good talk with his other parents would be important. I don't have much advice for the school situation. Perhaps provide…
  • Yes! I am currently growing a SCOBY according to these directions: http://bonzaiaphrodite.com/2010/05/how-to-grow-a-motherscoby-from-store-bought-kombucha/ Still have a week to go before I can check it though.
  • You really need starchy vegetables for good digestion. You should eat them every day. Bacteria eat starch and you need happy bacteria. If you eat low carb you are probably eating too much insoluble fiber, which is terrible for gut problems. Do you eat grass fed meat? You can get bones anywhere you get meat, even at a…
  • I took a genetic engineering course for my biochemistry masters. I was seriously appalled to learn about all the unintended and unknown consequences of genetically engineering foods. The government only recalls a GM food if it shows acute toxic effects, and inserting genes can affect so much protein production and…
  • I think only the Whole 30 frowns on bacon...not the Paleo Autoimmune. I eat it almost every day, or else I might not endure this! But it doesn't have junk in it.
  • I am currently following a paleo autoimmune diet plus FODMAPS free and fructose free. My BMs are much improved and almost normal, but I'm still bloated. FODMAP and fructose intolerance can be a sign of SIBO (small intestine bacterial overgrowth). I am making an appointment to work with a functional nutritionist because I…
  • FYI, nutritional yeast is not the same as baking yeast.
  • Since starting paleo autoimmune last week I have had bacon, olives, butternut squash, plantains (with coconut oil), lamb roast, and flat iron steak. I am in a rush in the morning so I cook it up really quickly while I get ready and take it with me to eat at work (bacon, steak) or package up things I bulk cooked (squash,…
  • I tried it. It devastated my hormones. I binge ate and gained 10lbs. So now I'm back to where I was before I went paleo, and my hormones are still wacky so the weight isn't budging. GRRRRRRR!
  • Go way high fat, this is important in ketosis. Low protein, low carbs. Make sure you supplement magnesium (I like natural calm orange), plenty of sodium and potassium as well.
  • I have had several autoimmune skin infections that were caused by undiagnosed Celiac Disease/gluten intolerance. Cutting out gluten fixed them immediately. I hope your wife is willing to try a gluten free diet first before seeing a doctor. My experience with dermatologists is bad. They only wanted to prescribe topical…
  • Yes, roast a head of cauliflower and use that instead of chickpeas. Then just add tahini, lemon, garlic, cumin, etc like you would normal hummus in a food processor.
