  • Thanks for the advice. Alopecia, and any other medical problems were ruled out. I was eating at 1800 cals/day. I was actually logging under a different screen name. I accidentally logged into this account before I posted this topic and didnt realize that until now.
  • I can certainly relate as well. I've lost the weight and am now at a healthy BMI, although I would still like to lose 20 lbs. My problem is I have asthma and my asthma is especially triggered by running, however I am determined to get in shape and be able to run 5k. I started out slowly and I mean really slowly, maybe 30…
  • I work rotating shift work (12.5 hour days - 1 week of days followed by a week of nights so I can definitely relate. As far as falling asleep a routine is crucial for me. I'm one of those people that can lay awake for hours thinking about what I need to get done when I wake up but if I follow the same routine it gets me in…
  • My mom's salmon recipe is the best - she always gets compliments and is so easy. You can grill it, broil it or bake it. Mix soy sauce, white wine or sake, ginger, and some sugar. I usually add a little garlic too. It is super yummy and so easy!
  • My mom always used the broiler method as well, but first she would marinate it in soy sauce, white wine or sake, ginger and a little bit of brown sugar. It was always fantastic!

  • Thank you all for the encouragement and advice. I did take some measurements a couple of weeks ago, so maybe I will try a picture and some measurements for comparison. I'm so motivated to really succeed this time, I just want some indication that its working.
  • Oops! I didn't realize you had to complete each entry for it to show up. I went through and completed them all. Can anyone tell me if they are showing up now?
  • Yes! I work 12.5 hour rotating shifts. We frequently have "feeds" or people bring in snacks to share. It's not unusually to see 3 bags of chips and dip and a couple of cartons of cookies out (there are only 6-7 of us), I also counted up the calories in one of our feeds one day and it was over 37,000 calories - for 10…
  • I think it's a good idea. Sometimes people fall off the wagon and need a little motivation to get back on it. Yes she should want to do it for herself, but if it takes a little perk to get her moving I don't see the problem with it. I know I have always dreaded starting to work out but after a few days back in the routine…
  • 3 years ago I lost my dad and best friend to lung cancer. It was the worst thing I have ever gone through. Even now it is very hard for me to talk about him without getting upset but I agree that the best thing is to do some exercising that you find relaxing. It is very hard as you have to deal with your own feelings as…
  • I'm 5-9, lost 25 lbs before coming to MFP, looking to lose 20-40 more lbs depending on how I look and feel. I think being tall is both an advantage and a disadvantage. I know I can definitely hide my weight - no one thinks I weigh as much as I do but it also takes a really long time for any weight loss to start showing!
  • I'm not a very experienced runner - I'm actually just starting c25k over again after not having run for about 6 months, however I know I feel like that when I get stressed or haven't slept very well for a few days. Are you resting enough? Getting enough to eat?
  • I always cook mine in the oven. Boiled meat just didn't appeal to me. I line a roasting pan with foil. Then cover the corned beef with whole grained mustard and put a little brown sugar on the top (this forms a nice crust under the broiler). Next put the meat in the foil lined roasting pan, cover with foil and cook until…
  • I don't have a recipe but I brown ham in a teaspoon of butter. Add a diced onion and some garlic. Add a bunch of diced peeled potatoes and some diced celery. Cover with chicken broth and water in whatever combination you like. Bring to a boil and then reduce the heat and cook until the potatoes are tender. Then just before…
  • I have just started up the c25k program for the second time - this time doing the zombie c25k. It is definitely easier the second time around but wanted to start slow as running triggers my asthma and I stopped running after completing the c25k 6 months ago (I just found running on a treadmill so boring). I never lost…
  • I work rotating 12 hour shifts and always count my meals from the time I wake up until the time I go to bed, even if it is technically the next morning. I also make my room as dark as possible and sleep with a sleeping mask. Sleeping with a sleeping mask took some getting used to for me, but I finally found a really nice…
  • Mmm, this sounds delicious!

  • Your wedding pictures are beautiful and you looked great ( not that you look bad now). I'm 29 5'9" and weighed 195 lbs last year. Down to 171 now and finally starting to work out and log my diet. Starting goal weight is 155, but I'd love to get down to my lowest ever weight of 142 again. No real timetable for losing the…
  • Fiber one brownie or cookie bars - 90 cal, 20% of your daily fiber and they really satisfy my cravings got sweets!
  • I take Phillips probiotics (they come in a pink and purple box). They help me a lot. I have never been a "regular" person and always thought it was odd that people acted like going everyday was normal. I would go once every 3-5 days, sometimes longer which lead to a feeling bloated a lot. Now every 1-2 days is normal but I…
  • I work at the US's largest nuclear power plant I have an identical twin sister I LOVE ice cream but eat yogurt as a substitute
  • Thank you both for the tips. It's great to know that others are being successful on shift work, as it certainly provides some challenges. I will try not to get so down on myself for not working out on the days I am at work and try to get more exercise in on the days I'm off. I'm typically very active cleaning the house and…
  • Request sent.
  • My diary is open. I try to log everything everyday. I do enjoy chocolate and have a major weakness for ice cream, but its all about moderation and making small improvements over time. I don't have any friends on here yet, so I'm sending you a friend request. As for pizza my Mom used to make pizza on English muffins - it is…
  • I am 5-9 and currently right around 170 lbs down from 195 lbs. My current goal is to get to 155; I'd love to get down to 140 lbs. The lowest weight I can remember being at was 142 lbs and that was when I was 16, but I looked and felt great!
  • I love cabbage! I slice it up thinly with onions and sauté that with garlic. Makes an excellent hearty side dish.
  • I have asthma too. I use advair as well as a proair inhaler as needed. I have to admit I don't take my advair all the time - I take it twice a day but usually only when I find my asthma is being triggered often (really cold, bad allergies, starting a new workout routine). I've never noticed any change in my weight when I'm…

  • I've lost a years worth of pizza before coming back to MFP - aiming to make that a 5 gallon water jug.
