Keeping Momentum Going
I am energized and ready to tackle those next 10 pounds today! I have my calorie goal and a plan for what I'm going to eat and I'm not accepting any excuses from myself. I worked out, I'm feeling good, I have my reasons for wanting to drop the weight in my sights, and I'm going to succeed. Today, at least today. But I have…

Avoid for Maintenance
There have been some great threads on what habits people do to maintain their weight. But what things do you avoid at all costs? What behaviors or thoughts will definitely sabotage your attempt to maintain your weight?

Whether You Lose or Gain Weight Depends on Weekdays
Interesting study! "Almost everyone loses weight on weekdays and gains weight on weekends. What separates the slim from the heavy isn’t how much more they gain on weekends. It’s how much they lose during the weekdays." http://foodpsychology.cornell.edu/discoveries/weight-rhythms

Lean Habits
Anyone read the book Lean Habits? I'm working through it. Habit #2 is eating only when hungry. Habit #3 is stopping when you've had just enough. I'm finding this approach life-changing!

Joy of NOT Binging/Overeating
Here's something I need to remind myself of constantly: I feel SO MUCH BETTER mentally, physically, and emotionally when I am eating properly - eating only when my body feels physically hungry, and stopping at comfortably full. I have a habit of compulsive overeating/bingeing, but everything about my life is so much better…

Refocusing On Building Muscle
My story is that I started around 155 at Christmas and I've lost about 15 pounds and I'm at 138ish. I've always felt that about 125lbs would be ideal for me. However, I was sick with a cold for a month and ate at maintenance in that time. I've been enjoying eating at maintenance so much, I'm thinking I might just continue.…

Errors With the Calories In of CICP
Interesting article about many ways that "calories in" can be wrong. It suggests that means counting calories may not be worth it. http://www.precisionnutrition.com/problem-with-calorie-counting-calories-in

Grieving Giving Up Overeating
So, since the beginning of January, I've lost twelve pounds or so. I probably have another ten to fifteen to lose, but I'm taking a break for a bit and maintaining where I'm at for a while. Now that I don't have the excitement of losing weight, I'm finding that I am dealing with a lot of sadness or frustration with no…

Portion Control and Moderation
I am terrible at managing my portions and exercising moderation. When I've lost weight in the past, it's been because I change my diet so I'm eating a lot of very low calorie foods (like veggies), but my portions are still huge, and I eat until I'm overfull. How can I learn to eat appropriate portions? My problem is that…

You Need to Burn 7,000 Calories to Lose a Pound, Not 3,500
Thoughts? http://vitals.lifehacker.com/you-need-to-burn-7-000-calories-to-lose-a-pound-not-3-1719560948 "If you’ve ever calculated how much weight you’ll lose by cutting out a certain number of calories a day, you know the most famous equation in dieting: 1 pound of fat = 3,500 calories. Too bad that equation is wrong. It…

Creatine
Creatine seems to be one of the only supplements that has some scientific validity to it. I'm interested in trying it but there seems to be a million brands and dosage suggestions. Can someone just direct me to a recommended brand and dosage to start with so I don't have to do hours of research? What do you take? I'm 5'5",…

Lifelong, Permanent Attention
I've been trying to copy quotes or information that I want to remember and remind myself of in the future. Today, I got this from The Hacker's Diet: "The stark reality is that permanent weight control requires permanent attention to what you eat. Life long, permanent attention. The monumental pile of nonsense, mysticism,…

MFP calorie goal question
So I set MFP to sedentary since I have a desk job and told it I want to lose a pounds a week. Since my sedentary RMR is around 1600, and 1600-500=1100, it said "sorry, you can't go below 1200!" and set baseline calories at 1200. I'm on board with this as I have no desire to ever eat less than 1200 calories for any reason.…

Here's Why Tracking Body Fat Is Important
Despite adhering to a reduced calorie 1600 calorie diet and increasing weight lifting, I did not lose a single ounce over this past week. Luckily, I have a Tanita body fat scale and it says the true situation is that I lost about 2 lbs of body fat ... but I also gained about 2 lbs of lean (muscle and water to support…

Renewed Commitment to Health
When I was 19, I found myself becoming overweight. And I hated it. I hated how sluggish my body felt, I hated how it looked on me, and I hated the diminished health prospects I would have as I got older. But most of all I hated that I was quickly becoming one of those women who complained about her weight, but never did…

Sprinting/HIIT for a Longtime Jogger
I've been a lazy, slow jogger logging 15ish miles a week for many, many years. I love it. However, I'd like to include some sprinting or faster pace periods (is that HIIT?) in my jogs to boost fat burn. I know there are a million resources out there about HIIT. Do you have any advice, or is there a reliable site that has…

Travel
I have a trip coming up. How do I keep the weight loss momentum going? I'm going to be driving four days, at my sister's house three days, and camping four days. That means I may not have MFP and Internet several days, will be eating in restaurants at weird schedules sometimes, and may deal with food pushers (my sisters).…

Food Pushers
I deal with a lot of food pushers in my life, so I'm always looking for new ways to handle them. I'm reading the book "Lean Habits" and the author has a good tip: "My secret weapon against loved ones encouraging you to overeat is to give a positive reason when you decline additional servings of stuffing or say no to taking…

Personal Responsibility - No More Excuses
I've had a couple of revelations about my own eating psychology which have made my attempt to change much more effective than it has been in the past, so I thought I'd share in case it helps others. New Year's Resolutions - Health and Fitness
Do you have any resolutions for 2016? Mine are to lose the weight this year and keep it off so that I'm not in the same position a year from now. Hedonic Hunger

How to Prepare?
I've put on maybe twenty pounds over the last six months, and once I get past the holiday I'm going to get serious about tackling it. I know the mechanics of losing weight - plan what I'm going to eat, track calories on MFP, stay under my calorie goal. But if you know you're going to make a lifestyle shift in a week, what…
