Walking, carrying infant or 1 stone load
...why, exactly, MFP, does logging this actually give me fewer calories back than just logging the unladen walk? It strikes me that without the ability to specify the actual speed at which I'm lugging about this 1 stone load, this particular cardio exercise is just a snare and a delusion placed there to trap the unwary.…

Packed lunches (vegetarian)
So I’ve got into a bit of a rut with my packed lunches, and I’m looking to shake things up from my current default of ‘Quorn cocktail sausages and crunchy vegetables’. Requirements: - Must be able to fit in a mid-sized lunchbox (two compartments) - Must be possible to prepare the previous night (cos I ain’t getting up any…

Leggings with tight waistband (UK)
I give up. Where can I get leggings with a good tight waistband in the UK? Currently every style around seems to just smoothly follow the line of the hip and waist... which is fine until I start jumping around, and my belly wobbles, and the ‘perfect fit’ falls down. Anyone know where I can get leggings with a proper…

Any change to fat distribution during maintenance?
...I know, my vanity is clutching at straws here :) I've lost 207 lb so far and will be moving into maintenance in another 17 or so. What I've noticed is that my body will do literally anything rather than burn fat below the waist; my upper body currently looks almost gaunt, with such protruding collarbones that I can hook…

Logging gym classes
I’ve just started to get over the horrors of school PE and dip my toe in going to classes at the gym, and I was looking for advice on the best way to log things that don’t have specific entries in the DB. For example, I’m currently logging my Dance Fit class as dancing, and my Body Balance as yoga, and Body Pump as…

Hiking calorie counts - really?
Today I walked up a hill for the first time, and obviously I want to record it! But the calorie count for hiking uphill seems crazy; it's like 600 calories for an hour! It didn't feel quite that exhausting, but I've changed size and fitness so quickly all my calibrations may just be out of whack. How many calories should I…

What's your best calorie surprise?
I've just discovered that meringue nests are only 50 kcal apiece. Helloooooo, Eton Mess  (Yeah, I know, there's still the cream...)

No longer morbidly obese!
Well, I've done it! After nine months and over nine stone, I've got my BMI below 40 for the first time in twenty years. I am no longer a DeathFat HippoWoman, I'm just 'normally' obese. Now got my sights set on 'just' being overweight :)

How do you log non-standard exercise?
For example, I spent about five solid hours yesterday clearing out three rooms of my house in preparation to have carpets fitted. Boxing things up, carrying things upstairs, carrying other things downstairs, taking apart unwanted furniture, trips to the charity shop and/or tip... According to my step counter I managed to…

Foods you never thought you'd crave
Anyone else found that restricting food completely change the kinds of cravings you get? My standard baseline before I decided to change my relationship with food and with my body was chocolate. I always craved chocolate. Chocolate was basically where it was at. When I was eating under 1000 kcal (my BMI was almost 60, and…

So tired... do I have to increase my calories?
I've been losing weight for over six months now (I weighed around 385 lb in September 2016, I weigh around 265 now). Initially my calorie count was very (unwisely) low (1000-1200), but since mid-February or so I've been fairly consistently on 1400-1600, and eating back about half of my exercise calories. I also take a…

How do squats even work?
I have read many different articles on the technique. I have tried the advice of most of them. Every time, the same thing happens; I start off in the correct position, descend about two inches, and then have to choose between leaning forward, which I think I'm not supposed to do, or slowly falling over backward. Am I…

MFP walking calories
...does the calculation take your weight into account? And if not, what weight does it assume? (I know it's not terribly accurate and I don't eat back all my calories, but it suddenly occurred to me that if the calculation assumes a much lower weight than mine then I might have the opposite problem!
