Restore the Edit icon
On Android, at least, there used to be an Edit icon (a pencil) at the top of the Diary screen. This was recently replaced with a lightning icon showing my current streak. I could not care less about my streak, but I edit my diary all the dang time. Now I have to go into the menu and select ‘edit’ to do so. It’s an extra…

Vibration when adding entries on phone
For the last week or two, I’ve noticed that my Android phone gives a little vibration every time I add a food to my diary. It’s very annoying. Does anyone know how I can turn this setting off?

Exercise from Galaxy watch seems to be double counted
I recently synced my new watch to MFP. This morning I went for a run, and got over 600 calories added to my exercise. But I also got a 'calorie adjustment' of around 700 calories based on my step count (which of course includes the steps that I ran). I've now got over 1400 exercise calories adding to my allowance, but I…

WFH and beating The Binge
Is anyone else actively terrified of being stuck at home? I find that it's when I'm at home, slightly bored, that I'm most likely to end up JCB-ing food into my mouth. Anyone have similar issues? Any good strategies to share? Or just solidarity?

Catered events - ack!
I spent this weekend at an event that was catered. Very well catered. There were buffet meals with a million options and more than enough for twice the number of attendees, an eight-course dinner on Saturday night, and cake and biscuits on the side at all times. You can guess how this went. It may have been the most epic…

Sneaky strategies
I'm currently feeling a little bit proud of myself for coming up with a cunning workaround for an issue I've been having. My office serves free cake in the cafe every Wednesday afternoon; and every Wednesday afternoon I finish the helping of cake that fits into my calories, want more, and go down and hoover up any…

After 226lb and a lifetime...
As of this morning, I have a BMI of 25. That’s a goal I’ve dreamed of all my life, in much the same way that one might dream of meeting a unicorn. It was never something I thought could actually happen. Almost two years ago, this was me: I was 27 1/2 stone (385 lb, 175 kg), BMI 60, with one permanently broken ankle and a…

Hiking calories and BMR
What with one thing and another, I'm currently doing a lot of 14+ mile hikes, which takes a significant amount of time. I've read that the calorie estimates for hiking actually include BMR, which becomes a source of significant inaccuracy over time. As such, I have a few questions: - Is this also true of tools other than…

Periods, eating disorders and overtraining
At about the same time that I started suffering from an eating disorder (binge eating, albeit not officially diagnosed because it is literally impossible to get an appointment with my GP), I stopped having periods. I've also ramped up my training this year for a charity hike in September, and that is similarly something…

Working out when ill
Obviously if you have the 'flu or a really stinking cold or something, you shouldn't work out. But how about the convalescent phase, when you're well enough to be at work (say) but still feeling under the weather? Is it likely to be in any way harmful to do a fairly intense workout as usual (say, a BodyPump class or…

Order me to be sensible, please?
So I'm an idiot. Last Sunday I had to lug a slight quad strain around the last five miles of a hike; I rested on Monday, everything felt fine after, and then I proceeded with a significantly heavier week of exercise than usual. You can see where this is going. Yesterday I had the entertaining experience of my legs slowly…

Official nutritional advice
...is it just me, or is the official nutritional guidance we're given often kind of terrible? Today there's been a BBC news story about the benefits of fibre. So far so good, but I'm staring at the NHS nutritional advice in horror. Everyone tells you to eat fruits and vegetables to get fibre. Has anyone looked at the…

The ‘guess my weight’ game...
A little over a month ago, I hit my goal of 11 st 5 (BMI 24.9) and entered maintenance. Shortly thereafter TOM finished, and I dropped to a (for me) teensy 11 st 1. Emboldened by this extreme success, I promptly sucked at maintenance and had a series of binges. Eight days ago, at the end of TOM and a short holiday break, I…

Back-to-back gym classes - bad idea?
I’ve really loved gym classes since I started doing them in January. In that time I’ve worked up from getting out of breath after some light aerobics and dance, to still having energy left after BodyCombat. I want to get back to that properly flattened/exhausted post-class feeling, so I was wondering whether it would be…

Ow, ow, tailbone ow
So now that I've lost a significant amount of weight, I'm finding that pretty much any exercise that involves sitting or lying on my back on a mat hurts my tailbone to some degree. Straight crunches I can cope with as long as I don't come up too high. But anything that involves twisting (eg bicycle crunches) or balancing…

Exercise and sleep
Exercise is meant to make you sleep better - but I find that on my heavy-for-me workout days, I’m restless all night and wake up early. Anyone know why this might be, or have any ideas to help me sleep better on Tuesday nights after Zumba (‘STRONG’ variant) and dance?

Left it a bit late to join...
Hi, I feel a bit like I’m joining under false pretences, since I currently weigh 165 lb...! In my defence, I did weigh 385 before I started what I call ‘The New Regime’. I’m 41 years old, and had been morbidly obese since I was about 12. I still have all the thought patterns and assumptions of my previous life, and I think…

When someone asks me how I feel about losing over 15 stone...
“I am a sculptor. I am sculpting myself out from base clay. Each new line of muscle, each vein or tendon, each sharp edge of bone that emerges under my tools is a testament to months of struggle and aching care. I am a sculptor, and this is my body that I have made. “I am an explorer. I am exploring a new world of self.…
