eating way too much junk/sweets
Since I have been in maintenance (just a couple of weeks), I am filling the extra calories (they seem like extra because I was eating less while losing) with cookies, ice cream and candy more than good food. I eat lean proteins - fish and poultry. I don't eat mammal meat. I do need to eat more veggies; I haven't been…

How accurate was calorie MFP's estimate for you? Was it low or high if inaccurate?
I set mine to 0 and I have a sedentary (office) job. I am 5'8", 59 and weigh 162. It is giving me 1910. I am also starting to log my walking. I walk a lot; averaging near 5000 per day for the year, but over 10000 per day last week as I have been ramping up and we have more daylight. I am only logging about 2/3 of the…

A little over 60 lbs since last summer
5'8" male, 59. I was 223 last summer. I did not want to go into my 60s overweight. Now I am 162 and my BMI is 24.6. I may go a little lower; my goal was at or below 164, which keeps my BMI under 25. I might go into the high 150s so that my afternoon weight with clothes on (doctor's office weight) is below 164.

Phantom gut syndrome
Like phantom limb syndrome where people can still feel an arm or leg that is removed. I got a little bloated and I was putting my hand on my stomach and it actually startled me for a second; where I felt my stomach distending to there was actually nothing but air because it doesn't stick out anymore. Anyone else ever had…

Two calorie goals - make sense or am I overthinking it?
So, my goal was to get at or below 164 and I made it! 163 and my BMI is now 24.8. I am thinking of setting two calorie goals - one for the 160s to lose very slowly and one for the 150s to gain slowly. So I will continue to eat at a slight deficit until the scale says 159 or less and then I will switch to a surplus for a…

some progress but still some challenges
I actually started September 1st but I wasn't on MFP and wasn't counting/logging. It would look a lot like October. 1500 is the minimum recommended for men. So, 5 days in a row at or very near it. Today will likely make 6. I have logged breakfast and a snack, and pre logged lunch, but today's bar still has ~650 to go. I…

eating more is making me hungry
I was eating way too little when i first joined mfp and started tracking. I gained a lot of the weight I am losing from bingeing and when I flipped the switch to diet mode, I started by pretty much starving myself in September and October. So I have two polar opposite eating disorders that I have flipped between several…

How is binge mentality treated?
I am curious because I have suffered from it and possibly will again. When I gained weight, a lot of my meals were really low calorie, like a packet of tuna or salmon and a salad for around 200 calories for lunch. But I would binge on sweets or have what I call binge mentality at some meals. For example, going out for…

Scary encounter with a chocolate cake
I had a very thin slice of triple chocolate cake. Under 100 calories; I just wanted to taste it. It was really good. The scary thing was that my binge craving kicked in. I resisted but I had to remind myself that I would absolutely be found out by my wife and kids. The craving was short lived; this morning I was up before…

Milestone rewards
I doubt I am alone in this. Today I am at my second milestone. When I first started the diet, this was goal. But then after I got on track I decided "no half measures" and I changed the goal to getting/staying under a BMI of 25, which is 20 more pounds. But I digress. At my first milestone, I have a fun size York…

slow the rate of loss near goal - why?
I see people advised to do this often - lose the last 10 slowly or maybe the last 5. Why not still shoot for 1% per week? I don't see how it matters when I change CICO to even. In my case, goal is the upper limit instead of the middle of some arbitrary range. If I start slowing the rate of loss when I hit goal, I may still…

low/no starch, low sugar carb - is there such a thing?
I am on an extremely low starch diet (medical reasons) and trying to lose weight. By the end of the day, I find that I can get enough protein, be over on sugar but be a little short on fat and way short carbs. I am also be on calories. So what would be optimal is to eat a carb that isn't a starch but doesn't have a lot of…

re-inventing how I eat
I do not want to just make some adjustments to my old way of eating. I decided to blow it up and re-invent it. I have been in diet mode, eating very differently from how I used to. I have lost 34 pounds so far with 24 to go. Continuing to be on a restricted diet is not sustainable. I might get to goal doing it, but then…

low/no starch diet
Anyone else doing this? I have the HLA-B27 antigen and undifferentiated spondylitis and some other chronic inflammation so I am trying it as detailed: Heavy science Lighter reading Tried roasted diced rutabaga tonight; not bad as a potato substitute, but a lot of the reading I did said roasting was best and mashed sort of…

As low impact to all joints as swimming but not swimming
Is this a fantasy exercise regimen I am looking for? I have systemic arthritis flares (pretty much any/every joint). Full system flares are very infrequent, but flaring up where I do a lot of motion (exercise) is all too common. For example, last winter I started Nordic walking. I likely did push a little harder than I…

low weight versus most recent weight; goal as limit not middle of a range
This came up in a discussion with a coworker about weight loss. I was accused of cheating because while I am eating at a calorie deficit level, I consider my weight to be the lowest reading I have seen. My point is that assuming an accurate scale, you can never get a reading that is less than the weight of your body mass.…

Doing 5:2 IF - "red letter" days stop MFP from estimating
I wish they would do projections from weekly totals and allow the low calorie days. I am doing the 5:2 Intermittent Fasting diet. You eat 3 meals a day 5 days a week and on 1 meal a day on 2 of the days. It's safe to do this on days that are spaced apart. You get 17 meals a week instead of 21, so even if you have meals at…
