Biggest swing yet: 10# in 57 hours. What's yours?
I will admit these are semi-bogus weights. Sunday night after paddling 3 hours I weighed 150.2. I was dehydrated and had a low calorie day to make up for a high calorie day on Saturday. But I had a few weigh ins in the low 150s recently with none above 155 in several days. Yesterday I went way over, like double. I have a…

Passed a year a couple of days ago
My goal was to lose until my BMI was under 25 and keep it below. I got there March 1 of 2018, so two days ago was my 1 year anniversary. That's a big deal as in years past I couldn't stay below goal even with goals that were higher. I am 5'8", so goal was 164 after starting at 223 in 2017. I have actually kept drifting…

Getting fed up with all the complications of calculators
Going to try KISS approach. I have been setting base manually for a while; going to keep doing that. I am going to keep logging food honestly but put up with a little sloppiness. My regular gym exercise is primarily cardio - ARCTrainer and resistance roughly following a circuit but skipping step platforms and setting…

Intermittent Feasting
This is an offshoot of the "if it didn't have calories" thread. this is something you are going to eat when it's available even though it has the calories - your "it's worth it" foods. I'll start. Chocolate pecan pie, warm, with scoop of ice cream and a little chocolate syrup for good measure:

Some people just don't get it
On Fridays, there are generally pastries brought in to the office and today was no exception. A giant apple fritter looked really good. I got a knife, cut it it in half and then cut one of the halves in half and took 1/4; still a few bites, this thing was big. An overweight coworker rolled his eyes - "You don't need to do…

What mind games do you play with yourself?
I am in maintenance, but when I know I am going to go over for a holiday or whatever, I set my goal to a deficit in advance so that when I go over, I see a bigger number and it helps me rein it in a bit late in the day. You would think I would just do the match in my head but I don't. It is going to be left as the goal for…

The big six oh
About 18 months ago I decided I needed to get healthy. I was drinking too much and have history of it getting out of control. So I decided to stop for good. One of the driving forces behind trying harder than ever before to make this time stick was the fear of going into my 60s as a problem drinker; risks of poor health…

Do you ever comment on unrealistic logging by friends?
Sometimes I see things in my news feed and think about trying to politely say there is no way in he11 you burned that many calories in that much time doing that activity, but I never do. If it was an IRL friend, I would say something as politely as I could. Here, I just shake my head and ignore it. Sometimes I wonder if I…

little ab muscle bump (I hope)
I have been doing abs a lot recently and I have been noticing an odd little bump I think is muscular but what makes it odd is the small size. It's about midway from breastplate to navel. It doesn't protrude so much that it is visibly noticeable or anything, but I feel it. Not sure if I am starting to get muscles to pop or…

Rough burn estimate for a TRX routine
Kind of an at home circuit training for when I don't get into the gym for a couple of days. Here is the plan for a TRX workout. 20 reps each and switch.* Hop (squat/jump without going deep into squat) * Row * Chest press * Bicep curls * Atomic push ups * Tricep curls Wash, rinse, repeat... About half an hour I weigh 155. I…

Long drives wear you out, but is it any more burn than just sitting around?
The title is pretty much the question: Long drives wear you out, but is it any more burn than just sitting around? I just did a 4 day weekend and drove 18 hours to see my son for two and a half days. Good visit; it was worth it. It made me wonder - is there any extra burn to a drive? I feel physically worn out at the end…

Surprised at how unpopular express workout is at the gym
I joined PF just a few days back and have been taking trainer led sessions. I really like the 30 minute express with the whole routine numbered and a red/green light moving you around from station to station. It makes a lot of sense to me because I don't have to remember what 10 machines in what order and the next one will…

number crunchers - how accurate is ths treamill calculator?
https://42.195km.net/e/treadsim/ The numbers seem high to me. I did an hour of 4.7 mph on a 7.5 degree gradient. The machine told me around 600. I entered it as 400. That calculator puts it close to 800. I am 5' 7.5" and weigh 155. My HR stayed ~150.

"create your own workout" appointment at FitnessPlanet
These "create your own workout" appointments are pretty short, so I was curious about others' experiences and things to bring up. I was thinking of making a couple of notes to myself so I don't forget my "can'ts" and "wants". Because of knee problems, I can't squat, lunge or deep knee press. I have a few limitations with…

Article - One bad night’s sleep can make you put on fat and lose muscle mass
Seems like a fairly legit source: https://www.newscientist.com/article/2177638-one-bad-nights-sleep-can-make-you-put-on-fat-and-lose-muscle-mass but I think the headline is over-hyped for click bait purposes. Still, interesting what it does to hormones and whatnot.

Increasing my range because spikes bug me
I am increasing my range to 10 pounds - the 150s. I will actually try to maintain at 152 to 156. Spikes that go outside my range bug me. A lot. I know that makes no sense but that's how it is. So purely as a mental game with myself I am increasing my range even though I have no intention of ever really weighing more than 4…

Do you log sporadic exercise?
We have a pull up bar mounted in a door that's not far from the top of the stairs. Almost every time I pass it, even if I get up at night to go to the bathroom, I do 6 or 7. By the end of the day I probably do ~50. I have a kettlebell in my room. When I have a few minutes, I pick it up and do several swings. Probably…

What SUP? Calories?
I paddle a 9'9" inflatable all around SUP (that matters because the effort to go 3.5 mph is fairly intense; on a longer touring SUP it would be casual paddling). I track with Strava, which has SUP as a standard activity, and it gives me around 150 calories a mile, which is about 500 calories an hour if I stay at a pretty…

Sometimes I wish I could prove it online
It's annoying sometimes in forum posts when debating something with a woo peddler or someone convinced that exercise or less carbs or whatever is the only or most effective way to get fit and lose weight is seemingly on equal footing in a thread. Many of these people have a low post count and have probably been at it a…

burn from mixed activity swimming
I go to the pool and I do laps for a while in sort of a hybrid breast stroke dog paddle. I have been swimming that way forever and have done mile swims and I am actually a pretty strong swimmer for someone with such poor technique. But after a few minutes I switch to walking fast as I can in water and using my arms to…

stupid binge urge
So Monday I had an excuse to let myself have a big day; kids' (multiples) birthday and had cake. ice cream and other snacks. Kind of ridiculous amounts of some things, but I figured it's just one day and with some of my activity I can average it back out pretty quickly. I did walk 6 miles that night to help offset a…

Body weight planner - how accurate is it for your loss?
It's a tool to help you figure out calories to lose weight, but I thought it would be interesting to see how accurate it is by having those of us in maintenance plug in our starting weights, activity, increase in activity, goal and time frame. You have to set it as starting now and make the goal date as far in the future…

justifying little mini binge
yesterday I went over by 250 calories. Today i am going through my calories quicker than normal and could easily run out. There is more candy around than usual because of some my son had in a big bowl and didn't want to take with him on a move (he is trying to cut back). I also indulged because I knew justification was…

healthy BMI is best
https://www.hsph.harvard.edu/news/press-releases/overweight-obesity-mortality-risk/ I posted this in another thread but it was as it was trailing off. I keep seeing the older, smaller Canadian study referenced to say that overweight is better. the more recent much much larger study says otherwise. I think a big flaw in the…

I think I am really done losing now
I declared myself in maintenance when I got at/below 164 for a few days because that was my goal. I pretty quickly decided I wanted more wiggle room and kept dropping slowly to get under 160 and above 155, which I think is good maintenance range, since the top is 4 pounds below my scream weight. 2 days ago I weighed 156.8,…

Button up buttercup; it's going to be a bumpy ride
I decided to say this in a new thread instead of responding to an existing one because it would have come off as a personal attack on the OP. Few people lose to their goal without having some days where they go over, some disappointment at how the scale doesn't move in a linear fashion, some days of self doubt when you…

I suck at maintenance
Weird thing to complain about; I wouldn't get any sympathy over in the General forum. This morning I was 1.4 pounds below the lowest weight I saw while losing. I guess that's not true since I am still losing. I knew I was being conservative. I have a really hard time logging my exercise because I think the numbers my watch…

Extra calories from steps
I am trying to figure out how many calories I get from my steps. I am 5'8", male, 59 and ~160 lbs. I set my daily activity as sedentary because I work an office job. Most of my exercise is walking. I have been increasing distances gradually since the beginning of the year and I am averaging over 10,000 steps this month.…
