Musings on regaining after some success
Just a bit of thinking aloud on how and why I regained after making so much headway last year, in case it helps anyone / stops it happening to me again! Obviously, lockdown didn't help, but the seeds of this "failure" were sown before that, in December, so I don't think I really have that to blame, though it certainly…

5k Swimming Challenge
Would anyone be interested in joining me in a challenge to ultimately swim 5km? That's 200 lengths of my local 25m pool, which I reckon will be about an hour of swimming once I can sustain it for that long. I only got back into swimming a couple of weeks ago, not I'm finding it great for my mental wellbeing as well as for…

Why is it that...
...I've been steadily losing lb a week (currently 5'7 @ 147lb) for a while sticking to around 1500 net calories, but this week, when I felt winter closing in and couldn't turn off The Munchies (averaging 1650 net cals a day), I lost 2lb? Serious question, I'm happy, but puzzled. I also know that I shouldn't be losing that…

Autumn Sadness
Just needing a place to vent, feel free to read and run :) As autumn is closing in, I'm feeling myself folding up as well. My mood has got darker, I can't be bothered with anything, I'm tired and don't want to leave the house, let alone go to work/the gym. As for food, I seem to want all of it, despite managing really well…

Body fat percentage too high?
I know the machines aren't all that accurate, so I'm using it as an indicator of progress more than anything, but I've just made it into the top end of healthy BMI this week (after a 17lb loss over 2 months - now 161 down from 178 at 5'7). However, my body fat % is still reading as 38%, which seems high for healthy BMI…

How long to lose the water weight from starting strength training?
I've been using the resistance machines at the gym (on top of my usual swimming) for the past couple of weeks, and for the first time my weight loss has stalled (less than half a pound in the last week, compared to my usual 2-3lb). Is this water weight, or am I just in my first plateau? I'm only very much a beginner,…

Addicted to the highs of weight loss
Gah. I've got to the point where I get so euphoric when I notice my clothes are too big, see a change in my body, or get a loss on the scales, that I feel really meh on the days (obviously most of them) when those things don't happen. I know that's a danger for folk switching into maintenance, too. I know all the logic,…

First stone lost!
Just diving into my favourite forum to celebrate my first major success - I've lost my first stone! I started on 1st August, so it's been about 5 weeks. I'm starting to believe I can really do this :)

My net calories are too low
I'm nervous about posting this because I know the answer is "simply" to eat more", but I do need some advice as I'm aware that eating too few calories is unhealthy at best and dangerous at worst. I can't even believe I'm asking this as up until a month ago I was bingeing with the best of them. But since I kicked my sugar…

Do I need a day off?
Hi everyone, I've been building up my swimming from 30 lengths to 40 in 30 mins to 40 in 20 mins over the last month. I'm loving it. I feel so much stronger. I get grumpy if I can't get to the pool and have to miss a day. I joined the gym so I had much better access to a pool at hours convenient to me. It's as much about…

I think I can see a difference - 3.5 weeks and 10lb lost
Pic 1 is 1st August, pic 2 is 24th August. I'm 5'7 and started at 12st 10lb. Yesterday, I hit 12st, to my complete shock (lost 3lb since Tues, despite eating most of my calories). I feel better, more like I used to, but I've still 2 stone to go to reach goal weight (10 stone). My lightest ever adult weight was 10 stone…

Early NSVs!
I reckon I'm on track to have lost my first half-stone by the end of the week and I'm starting to feel the differences now. Doing pilates before bed, there were extra inches at the crotch of my leggings, I had to keep pulling them up! And laying flat in bed, I got a bit of a shock when I happened to put my hand on my belly…

First Two Weeks
Hi folks, just wondering how much you lost in your first two weeks? I need a bit of a boost, I think. TOM and feeling huge, worried there'll be no difference when I next weigh in. Stats are 5'7 and 176 pounds down (Day 5) from 178 ten days ago. It's been a massive deal for me to keep to my calories for even this long, but…

Dates
I'm loving the new raw cashew and date bars (158 calories) I've found, but they're very sweet and I'm worried I'll start craving them and/or get blood sugar spikes which will re-start the general sugar cravings. How dangerous are dates in this regard? Has anyone had trouble with them? Thanks for the input!

Weighing-in and alcohol
Hi everyone, I'm nearly a week into my health kick and doing OK. Last night I had about 3 glasses of red wine. It was planned (well, two of them were!), so I allowed for it in my calories for the day, but I'm supposed to be weighing myself this morning - was looking forward to it even - and am now anxious in case the…

What do TOM and Onderland mean?

Fresh start
Hi everyone, I joined MFP a couple of days ago and have been inspired by this forum to actually post myself (I'm usually a lurker!). You're all so supportive, and reading the success stories has really motivated me already. Thank you. I've just turned 40,and lost a baby at 4 months pregnant in May. Bizarrely, I weigh more…
