Photos vs. Mirror
Why do I always appear (in my own view, at least) so much heavier in photos than I do when I look at myself in the mirror? There is a big disparity...

(Sweet &) Spicy Yogurt
A friend at work gave me a crazy recipe, but I tried it and I love it. Take some plain yogurt (I prefer Fage 0% Greek yogurt), and add Sriracha hot chili sauce, to taste. The yogurt negates the burn, and you can really appreciate the flavor of the Sriracha. For an extra twist, put in a little agave syrup (I added just a…

My Trick for Saving & Logging All My Common (and not so comm
This is my time-saving method for saving and accessing all my favorite foods for easy future logging: 1. Take a blank section of your diary and add ONE of your favorite foods (using the best possible result you can find in the database) as the only entry. If possible, sellect a weight/quantity that will be easy to make…

Another Unfortunate Food Scale Discovery
I've become a real food-scale junkie, measuring most things down to the gram. This just led to yet another unfortunate discovery (see my earlier almond post below). Whoever at Edy's determined that 1/2 cup is 60 grams must have been drunk at the time. Until now, I would measure my ice cream by packing it into a 1/2 cup or…

Blue Diamond Almonds Calorie Alert
Like many MFP'ers out there, I'm a big fan of Blue Diamond almonds (Smokehouse, Wasabi, Chocolate, you name it). I'm a bit disturbed that their nutritional label is inaccurate. They claim that a serving is 28g/28nuts. However, I have repeatedly weighed different samples on my accurate digital scale, and I have never been…

Calculating Cals - MFP vs. Polar vs. Precor
So I finally used my new Polar FT7 while I did 44 minutes of elliptical (heart rate hovering around 120-125 for most of it). Here are the calorie numbers provided by my HRM, MFP and the Precor elliptical: Polar HRM: 438 Precor: 490 MFP: 668 That's a 53% discrepency between the HRM and MFP, which is huge. I've heard on…

Big NSV - Back to School
At last year's "Meet the Teachers" night at my daughter's high school, I wasn't able to fit into the desks (the ones with the writing part attached to the chair), and I had to find a folding chair instead. Well, 15 weeks ago I started MFP and have dropped at least 38 pounds since then. At tonight's Meet the Teacher…

Memo to self
NEVER eat ice cream directly from the container, assuming I'll be able to estimate 1/2 cup. I just proved once again that this doesn't work...

How to count Sushi
How would you count those special (larger) rolls, for example one with salmon, tuna, avocado and cucumber? Nothing fried and no spicy mayo kind of stuff. The database is suggesting 60 calories a piece, making an 8-piece roll 480 calories. Is it really that much?

What the heck was I eating before???
Now that I've been on MFP for 11 weeks (down 33 lbs), I wish I had spent a week or two first tracking my calories under my old habits. I'm male, 5'-10", 231 lb, with a current pre-exercise daily limit of 1695 calories. What's astonishing to me is that I haven't had a day yet where I'm walking around hungry or feeling…

Suggestions For Tracking on Vacation
I'll be on vacation for a week and won't have computer access for most of the day (and don't have a smart phone, so no app). Please share any innovative solutions you've used to make sure you stay within your daily calorie range. Thanks!
