Another Unfortunate Food Scale Discovery

I've become a real food-scale junkie, measuring most things down to the gram. This just led to yet another unfortunate discovery (see my earlier almond post below). Whoever at Edy's determined that 1/2 cup is 60 grams must have been drunk at the time. Until now, I would measure my ice cream by packing it into a 1/2 cup or 1/4 cup measuring spoon. However, tonight I decided to use the 1/4 cup measuring cup and simultaneously weigh it. I reached 30 grams when the thing was well less than three-quarters full. Sometimes, ignorance is bliss....
