Snacks to eat during a long run
I picked up a few things to try for an energy boost for when I do my long runs (over an hour). Powerbar Energy Blast gels and some of the GoGo SqueeZ Apple Sauce pouches. I'm trying to experiment with food to eat in prep for my half marathons. Gotta be easy to transport, easy to open and consume, and also easily…

Realistic Half Marathon Pacing
So I've never run a half marathon before, and I'm signed up for 2 next year. I just doing some longer term planning, and my first race on May 6th. Currently my longest run (yesterday) was at 9.1 miles. I averaged a 9:48 mile pace during the run, and actually felt pretty good after it. I'm sure that I could have done…

Anyway, my Friday NSV is that today, I am wearing one of my Navy Polo shirts from my time as a mid at the US Naval Academy. I have not been able to wear this shirt in a long time, and it…

Food is a battlefield
So my wife has recently been complaining that food is a battlefield with me. Mostly related to eating out. I'm trying hard to choose places where I think I can find more healthy options, and not give myself an opportunity to over-eat (which is probably a contributing factor to how I gained most of my weight in the first…

How did you find MyFitnessPal?
I went in to my Dr for my yearly physical back in August. My doctor told me that I really needed to drop some weight. He told me about MFP. It took me over a month to actual sign in, but I am so glad that I did!

Running Books
I love to listen to audiobooks. I'm always searching for new books to listen to (courtesy of the local library or Audible.com) I just finished Christopher McDougall's Born to Run. Anyone else have any recommendations for good running books, or other good books in general?

New running form
So it's pretty well known that running with heel landing first is no good, right? I've been running like that for a while. I'm trying to start running on the balls of my feet more. It's a weird feeling for sure, but after my 3 mile run last night, my knee actually felt a lot less sore.

Running on the Street vs Sidewalks
On my normal running routes, its a mix between sidewalk and no sidewalks. In order to get any kind of decent distance in, I am forced to run on the side of the road. Since I've been running a lot more often, my wife is getting more concerned with me running on the street (especially at night, which I do often). I'm…

Kashi
Ok. I am hooked. Kashi. That company rocks. Lots of healthy foods. Most of them taste really good. So glad to see a food company that is committed to having everything they make healthy. I know their food costs a little bit more, but for me, its worth it. I usually work 10-12 on most weekdays, so I want something that is…

My NSV for today
I am rocking the size 34 jeans today. Aaand I have extra space in them! Awesome. This is after living in 36s for the last few years. And some of that time was uncomfortable in the 36s. I've also realized that I am at the last notch on this belt. I guess its time to get a new one :)

Exercise and sodium intake
I'm always a bit concerned about my sodium intake. I dont have high blood pressure, or anything to really worry about there. I just don't want to over salt myself. I'm usually getting a lot of exercise during the week and sweating a lot. Does sweating and exercise balance out if you go over on your sodium intake? I know…

NSV - Looks like Liposuction
So I'm almost 3/4 of the way to my goal, and it seems like most of my weight has come from my belly and my face and neck. The other day, my wife jokingly asked if I had a secret liposuction, because that's what it looked like. I responded back, "not liposuction. More like BradBeenRunnin-o-suction" Now every time I go to…

Finished my first 5K in a long time
Well, darn. It was really chilly this morning. 39 or so at the start of the race. I have not run a race in reeeealy long time. I ended up having a pretty fast first mile, and then a little bit slower 2nd and 3rd Mile. Sucked that the last 1/4 was up hill! I was shooting for a realistic time of 30:00 as my slowest time. I…
