Hypermobile, injury-prone & over 30? Talk to me
Hey, just looking for people who fit the above description & are trying to stay fit & motivated etc, despite ongoing setbacks. Right now I'm rehabbing, so hello! to anyone also doing that. Also interested in hearing from people who successfully manage prehab, & have more conservative fitness goals than is typical for mfp.…

IIFYM vs Harvard (& potatoes)
"The researchers evaluated changes in multiple specific lifestyle factors and weight gain every four years over 12 to 20 years of follow-up in three separate large cohorts, the Nurses’ Health Study (NHS), the Nurses’ Health Study II (NHS II), and the Health Professionals Follow-up Study (HPFS). The final analyses included…

Boneless skinless
My plan is to bake a whack of chicken breasts (like in the title) for lunches (sandwiches/burritos/souvlaki type stuff). How can I cook them to make them usable with a range of spreads (mustard, pesto, tzatzkiki, salsa, etc)? What is brining exactly, have heard that might help. I don't like this kind of chicken usually, I…

Recipe for apple cake with walnuts?
I'm looking for a cake recipe that - has apples and ground walnuts in it - is portable (not a pie; not crumbly) - is *hardly sweet at all* -- ideally it would barely register as a sweet thing and would not have icing or filling or anything like that (taste preference) . like maybe most of the sweetness would come from the…

crunchy joints sound awful
so i did about 5 mins on a stationary bike before having to stop due to feeling pukey from hearing/feeling my knees snap/crackle/pop at every revolution. the last time i felt as body-sickened was when i stepped on a 3-inch nail when i was 8. it's gross! how do you feel when you hear/feel your joints making sounds that…

i'm not high
i just noticed again how incredible and odd the internet is, how intimate and isolating and connected, how broad and now deeper every day. So weird - we're all strangers, literally in each others' pockets. your turn (this is a game)

Eye of round roast beef - best timings/temp?
I don't usually get this cut, not sure how to get it tender. 425 F for first 30 mins, then 14 mins / lb @ 375, does that sound right? *** trying 475 F for 10 mins, and 160 F thereafter (2 hrs 15 for my 1 kg roast. will update.

Pizza Pizza walk-in slice sizes
They're huge - count as 2 large slices or 1 extra large or 2 extra large? (I mean where you get that huge slice in the cardboard, & they cut it in two and it still looks like 2 massive pieces) edit: whoooooa found it. 710 for *one walk-in slice* of hawaiian, vs 290 for 1 extra large slice of a pizza you ordered. :noway:

What is the most ergonomic way to use a stationary bike?
In terms of seat position, posture, knee tracking, foot placement, and movement? Any good articles you can share? I've seen a few on real cycling, not that many on this. Thanks!

Clutzier when you don't work out?
I haven't worked out for a while now (rehabbing). And, I am knocking into things left and right. Which is mostly how I spent my life - used to be famous for my talent at unintentional physical comedy. I actually forgot this about myself (how much of a catastrophe I have mostly been), because during the three years I worked…

Food recommender algorithm based on macros?
Does this exist? I want to be able to plug in "protein, 10g, fiber, 4 g, carb limited to 7 g, max fat 3 g, total calorie max X" and have an algorithm spit out food options that are at or +/- 1 gram either way on relevant variables. It would be good if I could exclude foods I dislike from the total possible list, and if…

Biggest lessons learned from weight loss
It's pretty amazing what the weight loss journeh can teach you. Some threads here are making me reflect on important things I've learned other than portion control. For me the biggest deals were goal-setting, & the importance of habit/grit/persistence as they relate to achievement. I feel I've been able to transfer that…

What can Pilates accomplish in the best case?
I am going to be trying to rehab a shoulder (rotator cuff injury) and ankle (chronic tendonitis), and have arthritis in both knees (chondromalacia). Serious resistance training will be a ways away, but Pilates is something I will be able to do sooner. If diet's in check, what is the best that can be hoped for in terms of…

low cal vegetarian protein sources
Asking for a veggie friend: what is there other than - beans - low fat dairy - nuts - tempeh, soy, etc ? Friend does not like protein shakes, cottage cheese or greek yogurt, trying to come up with something else. Does like regular cheese & beans, but I think is sick of it. Or, is there a really great-tasting, low-cal,…

Arthritis & Pilates - outcomes?
Anyone with arthritis have experiences with Pilates they'd like to share? What outcomes have you had? What can be accomplished body composition-wise with Pilates + a high protein diet? I am thinking, probably not much, but maybe with a lower calorie diet, something attractive might result? YES the plan & greater need is to…

time under tension for moderate mass maintenance/gain
IF - the tearing & healing of muscles is what makes for growth in mass & strength gains BUT - you're limited to 25 lbs max weight &or 10-20 reps, BECAUSE - you have to minimize damage to vulnerable soft tissues, Could doing things really slowly at least preserve muscle mass while on a calorie deficit? Is "time under…

wth do people eat on 1500 calories?
I am going to have go below what I'm used to (2100-2300) bc it doesn't look like real physical activity's going to be possible for a while. So, I tested myself today, to see how little I could eat with what is to me a reasonable menu. I'd had just 1700 calories by dinner and started to have a headache, so had to eat a…

MSK probs all over the place, how to manage?
People prone to soft tissue/joint problems, how the hell do we stay fit? Right now, I have: - Anterior knee pain, both knees, left is worse, from exactly four 30-minute sessions of interval cycling. This is weird. First noticed it last month - I felt a kind of shock running down my left knee while I was DRIVING. What the…

180 flips
There's a cat thread now, and I realized, I'm warming to cats. I hated them most of my life, couldn't see the point to them, they make me sneeze, and they have weird tongues and eyes. All of a sudden they seem way cuter/quieter/more civilized than dogs. Which I used to LOVE! - was once a dog owner - but now find needy and…

One-piece swimsuit for less than $40?
Where can you find such a thing? Want one for lap swimming. Really not willing to plonk $70-100 bucks for a bathing suit that is not ridiculous. Trying to avoid 'control top'/ruffles/skirts/ridiculous ruching/disgusting patterns. Also, want something not too conservative. (I did find some grannie looking ones with very…
