How Running Changed My Body (Before/After Pics) ;)
I recognize I could've posted this in the "Success Stories" board, but I thought I'd share it here. I frequently see folks asking for advice on becoming a runner, or if it's possible. While I've run over the years, I took a huge hiatus and become overweight. So in May 2014, I basically started from scratch! The photo on…

Do you have phantom injuries before a race?
I have a 10K tomorrow and I swear, my knee is feeling off. Not ouchy, just off. I'm wondering how common it is to obsess about random body issues before a race. I do get nervous before my races, so I'm trying to tell myself to just calm down, that I'll do great. Can you relate?

NSV - I'm a former mid-back of the packer who just ran a 23:31 5K!
A little bit about me: last year, I achieved my weight loss goal thanks to three things: 1) being patient/sensible in my approach 2) using MFP to log my calories and 3) running! I've always considered myself a "slow runner," but I noticed after several months of losing weight and consistently working out 5-6 days per week,…

It's my one-year "fitiversary!" 36 lbs GONE & best shape of my life
I've shared my success story before, but just wanted to pop in and say, "hey! I've done this for a full year now! And, it works!" In the last year:* I went from 166 lbs to 131 pounds. * I went from a size 12 to a size 6. * I went from being overweight to a great, healthy weight for my height. * I made peace with food and…

Yesterday's 5K: Stopped Runners for Traffic
I was super excited for my 5k yesterday and had a time goal of sub 25 minutes. I'd trained for that, and was reasonably confident I could pull it off. The first mile was tough, b/c I had to weave around quite a few runners (it was a very crowded event), but I was still on track to meet my goal. About a mile or so in…

How did you get through your injury?
I'm currently dealing with a knee injury which means I can't do the thing I love to do the most ---- run. At this point, rest isn't helping 100%, so I'm going to pursue help from a PT. In the meantime... I'm wondering if anyone out there has experienced an injury that prevented you from doing your chosen sport and what you…

Am I the only one who takes unflattering race photos? (Pic!)
Every race, I tell myself - this will be the one where I look so tough & amazing when I get my race photos. After last weekend's 5K my hopes were high. I've lost a lot of weight in the last year & improved my speed. Unfortunately I look like a hot mess in most of them. So I've decided, it is what it is, and it's time to…

Were you able to achieve a dramatic improvement in your marathon time? How?!
A little about me: I've used to tell myself I'm just a slow runner or I only care about finishing, and guess what? I never ran much faster than a 10 minute mile. In the last 6-8 months or so, I've stopped telling myself that. Slowly worked on upping my mileage to about 20-30 miles/per week, incorporated hills, intervals,…

Losing a bit more after maintaining
So I reached my goal weight of 135 lbs about 3 months ago. Now that I've been successfully maintaining here, I've decided I'd like to lose a few more pounds, to get to a better racing weight for performance reasons. Curious if anyone else has broken maintenance to lose more weight and if they found it was just as easy as…

I made it! 166 lbs to 135 lbs (5'6" female) - with pics
I can hardly believe I've made it here! But, here I am. A little bit about me: up until having children, I was in really great shape. Worked out regularly, ran marathons - weighed right about 135 lbs. After my oldest son in 2006, I was able to get back down to 140 lbs after a bit of work. Then, I got pregnant with my…

Feeling a little lost... can anyone relate?
So I hit my goal weight this week after 7 months of intentional hard work and years before of yo-yo dieting. It was an amazing feeling, seeing that scale hit "135." I've set fitness goals for myself to continue the path, but I'm feeling a bit lost. I think I imagined I would have these feelings, when I got here - that I'd…

At what distance do you plan on bringing water
Hi all - just discovered this group! I've been running off and on for the better part of 15 years now, every where from 5ks to full marathons. After a hiatus, I've dropped 25 pounds and am training for a half marathon. However, it's been several years since I've tackled this distance! Since I'm training solo here, I'm…

Water is the only "water?"
I usually only log actual cups of water as my water intake, but I was thinking today - what about the 2-3 cups of tea I have in a day? Or the water that I threw in my protein shake? Curious if I should stay the course and only enter plain water as water, or if anyone else counts other things like tea as water intake.…

Has your success at MFP translated into other areas?
Today I was just thinking about how pleased I am that I've begun to really develop healthy, life-long habits when it comes to food - something I didn't think was possible! It got me thinking about other areas of my life that I've struggled with and if it's possible I can translate my success and the tools I've learned here…

NSV = I bought Size 8s Today! :)
Several months ago, my size 12's were fitting super snug. It was getting to the point where I really needed to make a decision. Either head to the store and buy some size 14's, or get my butt into gear and get fit! I chose the latter. Here I am, 5 months later, 22 pounds down and in need of shopping. Instead of size 14's,…

How to not un-do success while on 2 week trip?
Hi all! I've made some really great progress since the spring losing about 15 pounds and developing good workout habits. Thanks to MFP, I've started making good progress on eating too. I'm getting ready to leave for a 2-week trip starting next week and I'm getting really nervous. I'm telling myself that I probably won't…

15 Pounds Down Before/After
I wasn't planning on posting in the success stories until farther into my journey, but I feel like I've made good progress and wanted to share! A little bit about me: I've been fit most of my life but quite frankly, got lazy in the last year or so. I was shocked to learn I'd put on about 15 pounds in a year! This moved me…

Long-time lurker, first post! :)
Hi all! This is actually my first ever message here, even though I've been an off again/on again member of Myfitnesspal for a few years and even lurked these boards! A little bit about me: I'm a 35-year old work-at-home mom of 2. Prior to having kids, I was in pretty good shape and active - running marathons and even doing…
