I ran a half marathon PR of 1:53.54... at age 40! I also ended up running 1,360 miles in 2019. I didn’t set a mileage goal or do any longer races besides the one half marathon... I just run a lot and run most days... I guess it added up!

One week check-in (well, for me, anyways). Starting weight (last Monday) - 144.8 Today - 142.3 I'm overall pleased with this. I was hoping to see a 2 lb weight loss my first week. My main goal was to log every day, which I did. I think the scale might have even gone a tick lower had I not splurged a little bit too much on…

Name: Angela How long in maintenance: 4+ years (maintained at goal weight for 3 years) Goal maintenance range: 130-133 Current weight: 143 Current goal: 133 A little bit about me - I maintained my weight pretty spot on for 3 years, no problems. I attribute this to regular, long distance running, plus I continued to weigh…

Jumping in to say I can really relate! Several years ago, I went from 166 to 133. I loved being 133! I love how I felt, howclothes looked and fit the first time in my life, I started focusing on my running times. Even managed a few age group awards at races. I found the running plus daily weighing worked to maintain and I…

Part of success in maintaining is figuring out the way you intend to eat for the long term. Honestly, no fancy diet ever worked for me... inevitably I’d put the weight back. It sounds like you’re using keto to just drop the weight and then hoping to go back to eating the way you were to begin with. Given that, I’d…

Oh man just want to say I’m right there with you!! I maintained for several years and am up a bit... clothes still fit, just snug. I’m not willing to spiral out of control so it’s back to logging for me. We can do it!

A lot of people seem to poo-poo eating them back, but I often find I need to. I’m a distance runner and my running tends to make me hungry. If I don’t get enough fuel, I just don’t feel strong on my runs. This may mean I don’t lose quickly, but I’m ok with that.

OK guys. I'm seeing a lot of comments here about water retention and "muscle weighing more than fat" but very few asking the obvious question about food intake. I'd ALWAYS start there first. I find it's easy to gain weight when you start working out because it's easy to eat more (either thinking you've earned it or feeling…

OP you're awesome!!! Keep it up! :)

A few things... * The Doctor told me I needed to move more. * A picture a friend posted of me on Facebook. I was sitting down, so it was a view of my back, and I was shocked at how bad I looked. It was a wake-up moment. * Pure vanity. My biggest sizes (12) were getting really snug and I didn't want to have to buy a size…

I had knee issues last year and surprisingly, my PT told me it was caused by a lack of hip strength! Google how to do clamshells with a band. These are fantastic. Lots of body weight stuff you could do, too. Also second squats - even without weight if you could start there, as well as activities that require balancing on…

Read this: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/1217573/so-you-want-to-start-running/p1 PS you've chosen a most excellent pursuit. ;)

I hit my goal weight Dec 2014. I continued to log a bit while in early maintenance, to get an idea of what I should do. From there, I just weighed myself daily. I've stayed within a 2-3 lb range by doing that. In the last few months, I've decided I'd like to be a few pounds lighter for racing faster. I have found it's been…

Well, as a runner - I do love my treadmill! However, when I was sidelined last year with a knee injury, my P/T told me that the elliptical would do very well to help keep up my endurance, without the impact. So I did find myself some days opting for the elliptical. I will say, with any cardio machine, you get what you put…

Another vote for Old Navy. Their active wear is cute, amazing, and they've got a wide range of styles. I totally get the need to feel comfy (and hey, look cute!) while working out. If you feel good and have stuff that fits properly, you'll be more motivated to get out there. My personal favorite running brand apparel for…

I like a light meal of mostly carbs pre-run (oatmeal is a favorite). Afterwards, my main focus is getting in proteins, but replenishing carbs is important too. After yesterday's 14 miler I had leftover roast along with some broccoli, and orange, and a roll. I think it ended up being about 400 calories. Oh! And I love…

They have made a huge difference for me, but not in place of long runs - in addition to. I run 30 mpw and do one speed day as well as one weekly long run of 8+ miles (lately it's been more like 10-12). I've gotten my 5K from 26:30 to 23:30 and my 10K from about an hour to 49:26. Are you making sure to put in the mileage as…

As a distance runner, I can't do hard intervals UNLESS I've got a base of long, slow miles. Otherwise, I risk getting injured (I've BTDT)! A track day usually ends up being 6-8 miles for me with proper warm-up and cool-down. ;)

I hate heavy weight lifting. Does it work? Yes. Is it good for me? Yes. Will I continue to do it? Yes. I realized the other day that I hate it because it reminds me of moving - you know, lifting heavy boxes, furniture, etc and putting them down? And I hate moving. It's just so repetitive and completely bores me. I'd way…

I've maintained pretty well within a 2-3 lb range for going on a year and a half now. Here's what I found helps: 1. I weigh myself EVERY DAY. Obsessive? Maybe. But guess what, it works. 10 pounds never just "sneaks up on me." I think of it like checking your bank balance. You wouldn't go a week or two or a month before…

AWESOME. One thing that REALLY helped me a couple years ago when I pretty much had to start from square one again - I celebrated EVERY little victory like this. I plotted all my workouts on a calendar and I'd put smiley faces and sticker stars on it. I felt it really kept me motivated and in the game to focus on how far…

OP, yes! There is a definitely a correlation with weight and feeling like you can run faster/easier, etc. When I started out, I was close to 170 and it was a bit of a struggle (I'm 5'7"). I'd say once I hit under 150 I felt like "I got this." I now range about 131 - 133 and have a 23:31 5K PR, 49:26 10K PR, and 2 sub 2…

I absolutely love running (my profile pic was 1 mile from the finish of my half marathon PR last fall). It sounds like you'd like to run, if so there's a great thread - http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/1217573/so-you-want-to-start-running/p1 If you've got an inkling to do it, I absolutely encourage you to…

I'm looking to lose maybe 5 more pounds before my marathon (also in October) to be at a lighter weight for a faster time. My goal is to work on that NOW, before I hit the big miles. I've given myself until June to do it, and then I'm going to switch to maintenance (either way). I'm currently at about 35 mpw right now and…

My favorite late night snack used to be Juanita's Tortilla Chips (SO GOOD) on a baking sheet. I'd then shred a good cup of cheese on them and broil it. I'd eat it with sour cream and salsa and usually wash it down with a Mike's Hard Lemonade. This was before MFP. I don't even want to guess what my late night "snack" was in…

I was coming on to say something similar. I had a tachycardia - my heart would all of a sudden start racing. My dr too said "benign" but one year, I decided to get serious about getting to the bottom of it. I got a heart dr, they outfitted me with a loop recorder - b/c yes, holters wouldn't ever catch it as the events were…

Well I reached my initial goal weight over a year ago, but I discovered the biggest reward? Was I could run so much farther & faster! Being able to race and hit a PR or even win an award for an age group placement has not only been an awesome reward, it's helped me maintain my weight! Good luck, everyone!!
-
I'm hoping to lose a few pounds, but doing so before starting my marathon training plan. My plan starts in June, so wherever I'm at weight-wise, is what I'll be maintaining at. I've got an ambitious-for-me time goal and can't risk not fueling adequately. Good luck!

ITA with what others have said about eating too much and not moving enough. I would also add: we're kidding ourselves more and more about the causes for our weight gain. I see so much these days about "health conditions," "genetics" or other reasons outside our control. If we can convince ourselves that we're the victims…

I think OP handled it well. I get her need to manage her exercise time well. I think that this entire friendship does not hinge on this one opportunity to walk together - surely they can meet up outside of work. I feel badly at some of the remarks made to her. I truly do think this is a friend she cares about and that…
