Is this a good deal on a rack & weights on craigslist?
Can you all help me with some advice? I'm thinking of getting my own gear for at home. In the long run, it will save me money on a gym membership and then my husband can spot me now and then. So.. can you please go look at this ad? http://lansing.craigslist.org/spo/3832830791.html Is that what I need? There's no olympic…

9 sessions in, and I'm seeing results, I think!
I know, I know, I'm impatient! But I'm only 9 sessions in, and I think I see some muscles under the flab in my arms! And I know I've lost a couple pounds! Yippee! I weigh 158 and wear a size 10. I don't have a lot to lose, but would like to be a solid size 8 when I'm done. Maybe smaller. I'm stressing, though, about…

Ugh, first creep in the gym. But I'll go back!
Only like my fifth time doing this, and I'm still intimidated in the weight room. But tonight, I was creeped out, too. A man, like 60 years old, says to me, "So, in a few weeks you're going to be stunningly beautiful, right?" With a cheesy grin. "There was this lady who was, well, quite hefty. She started coming here. Now,…

Do I have to take someone with me to spot?
I want to go start today.. I'm pretty sure I can lift the bar without a spotter. But am I naive? Do I need a spotter?

So.. I told a trainer "How it is" with a REAL squat rack!
Tell me if I did good, ladies... Today I went to join Snap Fitness. I called ahead. "Do you have a squat rack there?" "Yes, we do," the man replied. So, I went in, signed the papers. Got the Mother's Day special that he invented when I walked in the door, and got my lanyard and card. Then he showed me around. I said,…

I don't owe it to the universe, even if it was free!
Someone gave me a ton of free stuff from Panera Bread today. I'm talking bagels, pastries, breads, muffins, cinnamon rolls, and on and on. I feel like I SHOULD eat it. Like because it was free, I owe it the universe to eat it. That's how I FEEL, but I have control over what I DO. So, maybe I'll make a good sandwich with…

Liquid chalk instead of flowers: Happy Mother's Day to all!
Yesterday my husband texted me and said he was taking the kids out to pick out flower for more for Mother's Day. I said, "Save the money, I just bought myself some liquid chalk!" Yeah, that's normal! (Of course he bought me flowers anyway. :) Happy Mother's Day to all you heavy lifter ladies!

I had to get on my tiptoes to get the bar off the squat rack
First time doing this tonight... To get the bar off the hooks on the squat rack, I had to stand on my tiptoes. Obviously, that will be a problem for me when I start to add a lot of weight. Those hooks seem to be bolted on. I'm 5 ft 2 inches. Short, but not THAT short! Can I ask my gym (the ymca) to lower the hooks? Or will…

I'm to the Y to do this for the first time! SO scared!
Okay, ladies... you've all inspired me to get over myself! I want to look good but still EAT! So strong lifts it is! So, I'm off to the Y to get a membership and go to the weight room. I'm so scared and intimidated! Will I look like I don't know what I'm doing? Probably! Will I look silly? Probably! Do I care? Totally!…

How long do your workouts take?
I really want to start stronglifts! BUT... I'd have to join a gym, which means added time with driving, etc. So.. how long does your workout take you at the gym? Considering you may have to share with others?

Which burns more calories? Tabata or HIIT?
I've been studying up, but I'm still stumped.... which burns more calories (including the continued after-burn), 4 min of tabata or a regular HIIT workout?

Ran 4 miles in my driveway. No more excuses.
My old excuse: "Oh, I'm stuck here with my kids, I guess I can't go for a run. Ho hum." New me: "Well, I have a long driveway, the kids can play outside while I run back and forth. Here I go!" No more excuses! To my surprise.. my six year old ran 2 miles with me! It was fun!
