Anyone have luck losing weight and building muscle at the same time?
I'm trying to lose fat and build my muscles back up after a break from lifting. Has anyone had any luck growing their muscles while eating a deficit to lose weight (or lose fat)?

Getting back into fitness - not a cook - what should I eat for dinner each night?
I am not a cook and I have no desire to be a cook. I am getting back into the swing of things but have a hard time knowing what to eat for dinner. The usual is a salad and cheese slices because they are easy to make. What are some super-simple (and I'm talking simple like a 13 year old could make it) things I could eat for…

Losing weight/exercising but BP won't go down
I am 5'10" 168 pounds - so within healthy BMI. I don't eat a ton of junk food other than some M&Ms at night, for example, or Chinese food when we are out of town. My blood pressure is in the pre-hypertension range and no matter what I do I can't get it to go down. I monitor it several times per day and it's obviously high…

Cooking at home
My wife and I both grew up where food was ready when we got home from school or practice or wherever. In college food was always ready in the cafeteria. Neither of us likes to cook. Please don't respond with "just do it" because that's not very motivational. We have done P90x, P902x2, and today am starting P90x3. This time…

Two week vacation - gained 10 pounds
I'm really upset with myself. I went on two week-long vacations this past month where I did not eat healthy. I went from 163lbs to 175 lbs. I got back about a week ago and I'm still at around 175lbs. I've been under my calories since I've come back but not sure why the weight hasn't fallen off? Is it really possible that I…

Walmart customers
We had to go to Walmart the other day for something. Now we aren't in perfect shape or the most healthy people around but I couldn't help but noticing how almost every single person there was overweight and unkempt. I know income has a direct correlation to weight but I had never realized just how unhealthy a majority of…

Why does everyone think it's WHAT they eat that matters?
I read so many threads on here about giving up this or that, limiting this or that, etc. It's not what you eat, it's how much you eat that matters. You just need to chose if you want calorie-dense food or more of a less-dense food. If you have to lose a lot of weight and restrict what tastes good you're going to fail. So…

Why do older women wear cloths with floral patterns?
I was at an event this weekend and most of the older women had outfits on that had bright color pants and floral or patterned tops. Or colored shirts and patterned pants. I've noticed most younger and middle-aged women don't ear this stuff. Does anyone know why and when women switch into pattern/floral mode?

Meal plan to gain muscle
Now that I've lost the weight I need to lose I am going to focus on increasing inches on my muscles. They are pretty much maxed-out size-wise at 14" per bicep. I've read everywhere about needing to eat more calories to grow muscle but what I have not seen is a specific meal plan and workout to gain X pounds of muscle. I am…

How many had kids that were "accidents"?
I don't have kids but it seems like there are a lot of young women on this site who have children. Did you plan to get pregnant or did it just "happen"? A friend and I were talking about this and we would like your opinion.

Skinny men with round bellies
Have you noticed there are two types of fat men? One is the saggy fat with fat all over and the other is a normal guy with a huge round belly. Is this all genetics or is it diet, etc?

Cooper Institute Fit Tests
We took this fitness test at work yesterday that is based on law enforcement standards. We finished it and I was feeling pretty good about myself until I learned that my results were in the lower half of the "general public". I guess next year when I turn 30 I'll be in the 80% range (better than 80% of the "general…

Should I eat more to gain muscle?
I am in a town that doesn't have any personal trainers so I can't get personal advice from anyone. I eat about 1900 calories per day and then work out (lift and cardio every other day) for a net consumption of about 1500 calories. I am at my goal weight of 165 and have plateaued so there is still a little bulk around the…

Why are women always on a diet?
This is a serious question. In my office all the women (aged 28-50ish) are on a diet seemingly all the time. They do Zumba and other stuff (according to them) yet they never lose any weight. Are all their metabolisms really that bad or are they lying to themselves? I have one friend who says she needs to lose about 20…

Jogging immediately puts me over my target heart rate?
I have a healthy 28 year old male. I have lost 20 pounds over the past 6 months and am right in the middle of the target BMI zone. I have been jogging for the past few months and recently bought a chest-strap HRM. Unfortunately, at the slightest jog pace it shoots my HR into the 90% range (190). When I walk normally it…

Running barefoot didn't work for me?
I was reading several places that when we run with our shoes on we hit heel first which is bad. It said to try running without shoes and see how the body naturally runs with our toes touching first. So yesterday I tried running outside without shoes and today I ran on the treadmill and both times I still ran with my heels…
