Cooper Institute Fit Tests

We took this fitness test at work yesterday that is based on law enforcement standards. We finished it and I was feeling pretty good about myself until I learned that my results were in the lower half of the "general public". I guess next year when I turn 30 I'll be in the 80% range (better than 80% of the "general public".) Either the results are based off of only athletes and not the actual public (hello we are fat!) or I am not nearly as fit as I thought.
I ran 1.5 miles in 13:00, 40 push-ups in a row, 15 pull-ups in a row, and 39 sit-ups. Not the best but certainly much better than any of the other test takers.
Has anyone ever done this test before?

I have not done this actual test, but I would say I don't belive your results are in the lower half of the "general public" I believe I am in pretty good shape (training for my 3rd and 4th half marathons) I could run the 1.5 miles a little faster, might be able to do the 40 pushups, certainly CAN NOT do 15 pull-ups (but I'm a girl
and could do 39 sit ups..but I believe I am in better shape than half of the "general public" I wouldn't take those results to heart!

The norms for 20-29 year old males are going to be pretty high--it tends to be a more athletic group. The Cooper Institute has been doing fitness testing and research for decades, so they have a lot of data.
According to their published norms, running 1.5 miles in 13:00 puts you just above the 30th percentile for males 20-29.
You don't move up that far when you turn 30--they must have been looking at the norms for females 30-39, because that time IS in the 80th percentile for 30-39 females.0
