Last truly great book you read?
What's the last great book you read -- other than the Hunger Games? The kind of book that you couldn't put down, or that you wanted to recommend to every person you know? It's ok if it was a long time ago! GREAT books are hard to come by :) For me, it was probably "The Book Thief" by Marcus Zusak or "City of Thieves" by…

Sugar MFP allowance help!
The other day, i decided to switch my diary to track some new nutrients. I don't consume anything with added sugar generally aside from an occasional protein shake or salad dressing, so i thought it'd be interesting to start tracking my sugar intake. To my dismay, every day I've been grossly over the MFP sugar allowance of…

plateau and soy/gluten allergies?
i've been stuck on a terrible plateau for the past 4-5 months. for the past couple months, i've been trying to break through it with the help of a nutritionist who last week suggested i might have a soy allergy (or sensitivity), a gluten allergy (sensitivity) or both causing it. has anyone here had this experience? it…

MFP friends moving on
i just reached the milestone of logging for 200 days, but on my board, i see notifications of all my friends who haven't logged in in 3 days, a week, a month or more...it's a real bummer! I miss the friends I began this journey with, but many have lost their motivation, met their goals and moved on, or just have…

Have you worked with a nutritionist?
I see a lot of people give each other advice on this site, and I feel we all learn a lot from each other here on the forums. However, I'm wondering - have any of you turned to a nutritionist? And did that change the way you perceive the forum advice? I have an appointment with a nutritionist this week, and don't know…

RIP MCA of the Beastie Boys
i'm sure there are tons of other Beastie Boys fans out there. Adam Yauch passed away today of cancer. Saddest ever. He was so young. And awesome.

MFP vs. fitbit calorie recommendations?
Hi! I just got a Fit Bit, and just like when I was new to MFP, had to enter in my current weight, goals and target weight loss. Using the same end result, the Fit Bit is telling me I have only 940 calories to eat a day, where MFP is never under 1200. What gives? I know all about 1200 calories and starvation mode, so I'm…

Confessions of a salt fiend.
Since beginning to track my meals on MFP, i realized i have a serious sodium dependency!! I am trying to keep an eye on this, and when I stay within the daily limit, I notice the weight comes off MUCH easier. But what do you do to keep your sodium down, besides cook from scratch with lots of dried spices for flavor? Any…

Bon Iver exercise video??
I just read online that there's a Bon Iver (that's a band) exercise video -- it almost seems like a joke. I'm not sure that there's anything I'd like to work out to LESS than Bon Iver... Has anyone watched it?? curious about what music is on the video and if it's any good...and what kind of video it is exactly! Here's more…

Your plateau?
Just wondering: At what weight did you have a plateau, how long did you stay there and what helped you break past it? I'm reaching the weight I seem to plateau at (160) and would love to hear what's worked for others and what your experience was. Any tips, etc!

"I don't have time for this" (exercise, cooking, etc)
Whenever I think I don't have time for exercise, cooking from scratch, logging onto MFP, writing in my journal about my progress, etc. I think of this image from the book "Making A Change For Good" by Cheri Huber. Thought this might help motivate a few of you out there, too:

A suggestion if you haven't yet..
A suggestion to keep you motivated if you haven't yet: Fill out your profile! I really thought about mine, and wrote down everything I felt about how I got to where I am and where I want to be. When i have moments where i am feeling unmotivated, I revisit my profile and it reminds me of why I'm doing what I'm doing.…

social eating
what do you do when you're going out with friends to a restaurant where you know there aren't going to be healthy options and where everyone will be drinking? i don't have a huge problem restraining myself, but i hate hate hate having to explain if anyone notices "why aren't you eating anything?" or "is that all you're…

hi there, my name's susie and i'm new to the forums. i joined my fitness pal a couple years ago but never really invested time or energy into seeking motivation and support, and i realize now that it would help me so much more to have that sense of community. so here i am! i'm self-employed and overworked, and find that my…
