Your Fitness/Nutrition Questions?
Hi everyone! I've been seriously tackling my health for 4 or 5 years now, and I've started a small blog to share my experiences and the things I've learned. Not for profit, just fun. (If you've interested, PM me and I'll send you the link!) I just want to know what questions you may have about general health, fitness,…

Overhead Squats?
I tried Overhead Squats for the first time today; tried first with an empty 45 lb bar, and failed miserably. I had to sulk over to the smaller bars and tried them out with 20 lbs. What I'm mostly confused about is shoulder placement. Straight across like with OHP? Or shoulder blades squeezed together in the back, kinda…

Podcasts like FatBurningMan, Bulletproof, etc.?
I love listening to Abel James' podcast on FatBurningMan.com. (I sorta have a crush on him... XD) I also like Bulletproof Executive and Ben Greenfield Fitness. Does anyone listen to any other fitness/paleo/real food podcasts I might like? Thanks!

I'm gonna miss this forum...
Guys, I'm moving over to the dark side (where there are no cookies) and starting the cut that will lead up to my wedding in Oct. I'm so sad. No more "Whatever, I can eat this entire pint of Ben & Jerry's, I'm bulking" or "Yes, fries please, because I need to feed my muscles" or "damnnn what a nice PR!" Now it'll be…

Birth control and muscle mass
Has anyone found that birth control pills have hindered muscle gain? As far as I know, testosterone is very helpful in gaining muscle and bc pills push those levels way down. I just stopped taking mine for other reasons, and I'm kinda hoping gaining muscle will be just a tad bit easier now.

Crazy fluctuations- back to where I started
5'2" Female, heavy lifting for a year and a half. Bulking for 10 weeks. I started my bulk journey at around 117.5 and 19% BF. My plan was to get up to 123 lbs and around 22% BF so I could cut later to a solid 115. My bulk began pretty good- the scale steadily went up about .5 lbs a week. I accounted for changes around my…

Bulking, but not getting stronger...
Is this due to not eating enough, not sleeping enough, or not pushing myself enough? I've been heavy lifting 3-4x a week for 15 months now. Following Leangains protocol. Eating over TDEE, but only by 10% in order to minimize fat gains. Been on a bulk for 5 weeks. I've gained 1.25 lbs, and seen no strength gains. I'm…

How much weight should females gain a week?
I've been on a bulk for about 3 weeks now and I've only gained about .75 pounds. I'm trying not to gain too much fat, so I know the bulk should be slow, but is this TOO slow?? F, 23, 5'2", 118 lbs. Probably around 19% bf. Thanks!!

Fiance is a scientific anomoly; doesn't get my methods.
I'm currently in a short (12 week) bulk cycle. I usually hang at around 115 lbs, 20% bf, and I'm trying to bulk up to around 124 so I can come back to 115 at a lower BF% (hence, gain muscle, lose fat). This makes sense to me. I've researched it. It makes logical scientific sense. My fiance, however, doesn't get it. He has…

To those bulking, but avoiding wheat and sugar....
What the hell do you eat to reach your carb goals on workout days?! It seems like nearly everything out there has wheat or sugar in it. I follow IF and basically work during all of my eating window, so can someone give me ideas for portable, whole food carb sources? I know of oats and sweet potatoes (which, really, have…

Transitioning Back to Normalcy?
Hi guys. So I've been following my diet extremely carefully for nearly two years now. Tracking everything I eat. Counting calories. Running, lifting, walking. I've been on low carb. I've been on keto. I've tried paleo and LeanGains. I've done it all, and to be honest, I'm tired! I want to be a NORMAL person again, just…

Need Female and Male Lifter Friends!
I've been on MFP for literally years without stopping now, but I need some more friends who like to lift heavy things up and put them down!! I'm into paleo/clean eating and learning about evolutionary biology that lends itself to having more energy, more muscle and less fat. Friend me so we can help each other stay…

Guys, tomorrow is my favorite day.
DEADLIFT DAY. I freaking love deadlift day. I go to the gym mega early (6 AM) and no one but the hard core guys are there. And me. A little 5'2 petite girl. Deadlifting heavy weight. I feel like such a BADASS. And now that I'm back on a bulk, I'm MEGA excited to see my number go up. WOO PUMP IT UP. Just wanted to share.…

Bulking and cardio?
I'm currently in my first bulk ever; I'm trying to put on 2 solid lbs of muscle in 4 weeks, which of course comes with another 4 lbs or so of fat (the carbs call to me!), so my first impulse is to run to the treadmill. However, I've been told that cardio is counterproductive to muscle gain. Is this true? How much is ok,…

New Rules of Lifting for Women?
I'm down to a good weight now and I want to start heavy lifting to really cut those last pounds of fat and start gaining muscle definition. I bought NRLFW and did the very first workout today. Not too hard, but I know I need heavier weights/to join a gym. Is anyone else out there doing this workout, or has anyone completed…

3 month progress pics!
Here's an album of my progress from mid March to today. MidMarch MidJune I'm 1.4 pounds away from my goal weight of 115. Btw, I'm 5'2" and 21 years old. Currently 116.4 lbs. I'm trying to do more toning...I know I need to lift heavier and eat more protein. I'm frustrated because I'm losing weight but I don't feel like I…

5k Time!
I ran my second 5k today in 25:06!! That's a little under 8:30 a mile. At the last 5k I did around a year ago, I got 29:30, so I really improved my time! Unfortunately the people who run the machine that tracks who comes in at what time were late, so I don't know what place I came in  . But still, I'm proud.

Help- why am I stuck?
I'm a 5'2", 120.6 pound female and I have been stuck at 120.8ish for the past three weeks. I have myself at 1450 calories a day and usually stick to it- if anything I'm only around 100 calories over. I eat my exercise calories. It's just getting a tad frustrating- am I not losing because I'm eating too little or eating too…

Progress Pics!
Just been a month. I've lost around 5 pounds, but I have a wayyy to go. I promised myself I'd post progress pics every month no matter how bad they looked. Also, sorry for the granny panties! I haven't done laundry in a while... Yay, fixed the pictures!

Looking for smaller girls trying to tone!!
Hey guys, I've been on MFP for a while but I need new friends who are in the same boat as me!! I'm 5'2" and 123.6 pounds (according to the scale last week) and I'm trying to get down to a toned 115. So far I'm eating around 1350 calories a day, going to yoga+zumba once a week, bootcamp once a week, and running/lifting 3…

I'm scared it won't work...
This may seem really dumb but it's a legitimate fear of mine. I'm 5'2" and only 125 lbs- I want to get down to 115 and be fit and toned. It's just that I've tried this multiple times in the past and I've never been able to get my body to really be lean- I always look stocky, I guess. I have broad shoulders and big thighs.…

My NSV!
I've actually posted about something similar before, but yesterday it was even better! For, I guess the past two weeks, I've been really watching what I eat and going to hour long zumba, yoga, and "bootcamp" classes. I'm not so much trying to lose weight as trying to get fit. Yesterday, none of the classes were running so…

My very first NSV!
When I'm back at school, I run around campus on a 1.75 mile track called "The Loop." It has hills and runs next to a couple lakes. When I first got to school around 2 years ago, I used to be happy if I could do the whole thing while only stopping to rest for 5 minutes once or twice. Today, after working out on the…

Looking for some motivational support!!
Hey guys! I've actually been on this site on and off for a year or so. I'm 20 (21 August 30th!! So close!), 5'2", and currently around 125 lbs. I know this is a generally healthy weight, but my plan is to become a serious NYC musical theater actress, so I have to slim down to around a healthy 115 in order to be up for as…

Help please? Over in sugar, under in protein
My diary is open; if somebody could help me out and tell me WHAT TO EAT! I am consistently over in sugar, carbs, and fiber, and under in Protein and Fat, though I almost always hit or am under my calorie goal. I'm rather small to begin with (5'2", 125 lbs) and I'm just trying to lose this annoying layer of fat and tone up.…

Advice for a mesomorph?
So after years of going against my body type and attempting to achieve the unattainable goal of making my body lean and skinny, I've finally accepted my mesomorph status. I don't want to be mega-strong, just strong enough, ya know? Six pack abs would be awesome! =] Does anyone have any advice on what I should eat, how I…

Ugh, I did so badly yesterday
I just feel like I need to confess or something lol. I didn't even log it in because I don't know how many chips, how much salsa, and how many slices of cheese and crackers I had yesterday while watching the Jets game!! I even had a cupcake and an unmeasured amount of ice cream, straight out of the container!!! So,…

Help me get to 1200!
I've been tracking my calories for nearly a week now and I seem to be consistantly under the recommended amount. I eat lots of salads, oatmeal, greek yogurt, and only fruits for snacks, and I've been losing weight, but at the end of the day, I've only eaten around 850 calories, so I basically force myself to eat some ice…

Treadmill and elliptical calorie counts?
I don't so much trust my treadmill, but my elliptical has an option to put in my weight and has my heart rate on there with sensors. My elliptical says I burn around 350 calories in 25 minutes but myfitnesspal counter is saying it's a lot less than that. How accurate are the machines' calorie counters? What should I trust?
