Proximity makes a difference
So we all know that it's a good idea not to have junk in the house. After all, if it's not there, you can't eat it. I have another helpful hint regarding proximity... I have a friend that is currently working on his doctorate in health and nutrition so this comes from a knowledgable place. Items at eye level will be eaten…

15 years later...a new perspective
My husband and I were cleaning out a few boxes in the garage this weekend and I came across an index card that I had written my measurements and weight on dated 05/11/1997. This was six months before my wedding and obviously an attempt at tracking and losing weight/inches. If you had asked me recently, I would have said I…

Kellog's corn flake crumbs
Hello, I am gluten-intolerant, non-celiac's and am trying to still make some of my family's favorite meals. The only thing I cannot seem to perfect so far are recipes that call for bread crumbs. I've looked for gluten-free bread crumbs in my local stores without luck so far. I've tried gluten-free crackers crumbled up and…

Start Thanksgiving off right
There are Thanksgiving Day 5K/10K's all over the U.S. and a lot of them raise money to feed the homeless. In San Diego we even have two to choose from on that day and both support food banks and/or shelters of some kind. What better way to start your Thanksgiving off right then to get up early, run/walk with your…

After the shred?
Greetings! So, I am finishing level 2 of Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred tomorrow and will be moving on to level 3 after the weekend (yes, I take the weekends off as I am always doing something else active). I really love how it starts my day (I only have to get up 1/2 hour earlier to get in my exercise) and love the…

I caught my husband...
Shredding!!! I guess he likes the results he's seeing in me! I heard his alarm go off this morning and realized he wasn't in bed. I looked downstairs and could hear Jillian's voice coming from the den. I went back to bed and then when he came up to shower I asked how it went. "Good workout" he said with a grin.…

Looking for a 5K, may I recommend...
The 9/11 Heroes Run! This race is held in many cities throughout the US (currently 33 cities) the weekend before, on or about September 11th. Proceeds go to support the Travis Manion Foundation, a charity that "Honors the fallen by challenging the living". What better way to challenge yourself? This will be my second year…

Goat herding...calories burned?
Recently, our home-owner’s association decided to hire a goat herder to bring his goats out to cut down all the unwanted brush in the “green-belt” areas around our neighborhood (we live in a fire danger area). We have been fascinated with the goats and have referred to watching them and their antics as “goat TV”. They…

Do you take a "day off"?
I have seen and read on many "plans" that it's good to take a day off from your normal eating routine. It's not a day to binge necessarily, but a day to have things you may not allow yourself the other days. The idea is (as I understand it), that is keeps your body guessing so it doesn't just adjust to the every day…

It's the little things...
OMG, I'm so stoked! I ran two miles with an average split of 11.30 tonight. That may seem pretty slow to the real runners out there but that's the first time I've broken 13 minute splits since I tore my calf muscle three years ago. Of course, I had to then walk another two miles to recover but hey, I did it!

Need like-minded friends, positive only need apply
Hello! I am new to MFP (one week) and am already seeing results (3 lbs)! I love how easy it is to log food and know that this is the best way to keep myself accountable. I also love that little line that says “if every day was like today, you would weigh ### in five weeks”. It inspires me to do more. A little about me: I…

What habit have you developed or changed to improve?
I wanted a post to help people see how the small changes can bring big benefits. It's not that you have to change your entire life at once, but the more you change for the positive the more you want to change. I no longer eat after 7:30pm. What this has changed for me...I no longer snack before bed, I don't eat in front of…

Positive Moves
I wanted to start a post for people to say something they did today that was positive. No matter how big or how small, every positive move replaces a negative move that could have been done instead. Glory in the positive people! Mine today: I joined myfitnesspal. =)
