Easy non dairy, non soya desserts ?
Trying to cut down my dairy a bit due to stomach issues, and avoid too much soya due to hypothyroidism, so am wondering, what can I replace my usual berries, flax and greek yoghurt with each evening ? Having just fruit is not quite the same, and I sort of have been relying on things like yoghurt and cottage cheese for…

Biggest Loser + Muscle Gain ?
According to Dr H in this season's Biggest Loser, episode 11, Danni has gained 19 Ibs of muscle in 3 months. Yet I am always seeing people here saying you cannot change fat to muscle(obviously) or gain muscle in a calorie deficit, let alone 19 Ibs in 3 months on a pretty extreme calorie deficit. So, they got the maths…

Steak ! Help ?
Just bought a pack of 6 Sirloin steaks. Not the totally grass fed I wanted which I would have to order online at great cost(in the Uk) but fed on a mixture of grass and cereal, from a high quality Uk shop. I have not had red meat since I was 12 so I need to know how to best cook this and what in ? I know I could fry in…

Healthy, easy to make, sweet treat recipes ?
As in, healthy alternatives to muffins, cookies, cake, that have the same sort of satisfaction factor, but without the chemicals and high refined sugar content. And no, I don't mean fruit and dark chocolate, those are not the same. Lay it on, I know some of you must have good recipes, especially the Paleo crowd.

Hot chocolate addiction
Suggestions for a healthy, non artificial alternative as a bedtime drink as I currently get through 3 mugs of low cal hot chocolate before bed. Herbal teas just aren't the same. I have real cocoa but always found it bitter made with water.

Some people just do better on higher carbs ?
Until mfp, I never focussed on getting lots of protein and at times, had baked potato for dinner every night...actually lost weight eating those. I find with lots of protein and less carbs, I get hungry within an hour, no matter how many vegetables, how much protein. But tonight when I had a baked potato with eggs and a…

Coconut Oil - Which Kind?
I tend to bake my chicken at 200C, which is almost 400F and read that the extra virgin coconut oil has a smoke point of 350, but the non virgin, refined kind has a higher smoke point. I am guessing I would need to use the refined to bake my meat in ? Also, what about frying? Surely if the heat point is that, then frying in…

Always Hungry!
I am eating upwards of 1900 calories, lately hitting up to 2300 a day, but I am always hungry after dinner, and it is driving me bonkers. I do the stronglifts twice a week currently, as well as running(usually a 5k or 20 minutes hiit), elliptical(set to level 10 intervals or hills... ie, very high resistance), stationary…

Higher Fat Diet Helped Anyone ?
I am finding that even after large, balanced dinners, I am hungry either immediately after or an hour after, and it is driving me nuts. As an example, last night, I had a large chicken breast fillet, 200g sweet potato with a small amount of butter and 500g of vegetables. I was still hungry. Granted, I am doing lifting…

Always Hungry After Dinner
And no, I am far from undereating. I eat at my TDEE - 20%, which is 1900 calories, and often end up closer to 2000. I have my macros set to 45c, 30f, 25p, and get 100g + of protein a day. I am 5'10 and 133-135Ibs. I have large dinners, usually something like chicken breast or baked wild salmon, sweet potato and a large…

Calf pain
Few weeks ago, i decided to try a hi intensity circuit video on fitness blender and on doing some of the jumps, i somehow injured something in the back if my calf, sort of the bottom half of it. It was instant pain and it took 4-5 days for me to be able to run on the treadmill again and even the elliptical was painful. The…

Such a thing as the 'perfect diet'?
I am intensely interested in all the different ways of eating and the myriad books cramming the shelves, claiming their way to be the ideal way to eat. You have low carb, you have high fat, you have paleo, primal, plant based, vegan, whole foods, the list goes on. Then you have books like the china study and the anti grain…

Will I ever eat normally again ?
Getting so tired and desperate. Having spent many years as an on/off anorexic, and almost dying from it on several occasions(kidney failure, heart failure, BMI of 9.8, yes, 9.8) I now these last months have found myself binge eating and purging, or simply binge eating on anything up to 7000 calories in a sitting. Even as a…

Measurements Changing Day To Day?
I know weight fluctuates daily, but measurements too ? I workout daily, switching between level 10 interval stationary bike, stronglifts, running(steady state or HIIT) and level 10 elliptical intervals, and have noticed the measurements of my hips, thighs and waist are altering up and down by 1/2 an inch a day. I am…

Loma Linda Study - Vegetarian/Vegan = Longer Lifespan?
I must first state that I am not of any view here at present and am neither anti meat nor anti vegetarian. I was simply doing some online research/reading around due to deciding whether to add a little meat back into my diet(organic, free range, grass fed) a few times a week, after decades of being vegetarian or…

Skyrim Help
Hi, New to the PS3 and trying to get into Skyrim, but I am finding myself unsure as to what would be the best breed of person to have. I made a high elf, but find, having got as far as escaping the dragon, that I still only seem to have my fists to use... I have no idea how to get a weapon or which buttons I use to arm…

Question
I recently started stronglifts (well, about a week ago) and am up to deadlifting 30kg, squatting 20kg and overhead lifting 15kg. The thing is, I have seen many females who lift weights, develop that V shape to their backs, with quite broad shoulders and lats, and this is something I want to avoid as I have a naturally…

Had A Bad Day? Feeling Like Giving Up ?
This sort of puts some things into perspective. Whenever I am fretting about a pound gained, a bad eating day, things not going quite as I planned, I will remember this article. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-2271391/Stephanie-Knights-bucket-list-The-modest-heartbreaking-final-wishes-woman-dying-cancer.html Some…

Weight Lifting Reps + Sets - Question
Curious as someone I know who is incredibly fit and lean does workouts involving 18 sets, not sure the reps, and I am curious about whether there is some advantage of doing that number of sets, as opposed to someone doing, for example, stronglifts 5x5 ?

9kg Dumbbells harder than 20kg barbell...why ?
I have recently started lifting, and yesterday did 5 sets of 5 reps with both 20kg barbell and 30kg barbell, including deadlifts, chest press and overhead, yet tonight when I tried to do overhead with a pair of 9kg dumbbells it was so difficult I only managed a couple of reps. Why is this? I was just curious to try them.

Athletes > Injuries > Ending Up Overweight/Unfit ?
I have seen quite a few profiles on mfp of former athletes who could no longer exercise due to injuries to joints and needing replacements of knees and such things, and have to wonder if some forms of exercise put such a stress on the body that eventually they can lead to a loss of the very thing they are supposed to be…

Just Started Weight Lifting
I have only done it about 5 times now. Not sure what weight people generally begin with. I started by just grabbing a 15kg barbell and doing 3 sets of 8 overhead presses, my first time. Today I found I can calf press 190Ibs and leg press 100Ibs, first time trying. I also today deadlifted 5x5 30kg and benchpressed 5x5 15kg…

OCD - Anyone Else Struggle With This ?
It can be so draining and time consuming. With me, it comes and goes. Question - Slow Cookers + Meat ?
I got a couple of chicken thighs and froze them a few days ago, and decided to just put them right in my slow cooker(only had one for a few weeks and only just started cooking meat for the first time in life as was vegetarian), which is one of the plug in ones, but after searching online, it seems you are supposed to thaw…

Weightlifting Questions
Please try and be kind :) I basically want to drop about 7Ibs and then build up some muscle and maybe cut afterwards. I Have Concluded...
from reading endless material on various diets and studies, including Paleo, Atkins, engine 2, vegan, primal, south beach etc etc, that maybe the best thing to do is to simply eat everything in moderation, and avoiding eating an excess of anything. I think looking at the Engine 2 diet book today was the final straw, so to…
