I have recently started lifting, and yesterday did 5 sets of 5 reps with both 20kg barbell and 30kg barbell, including deadlifts, chest press and overhead, yet tonight when I tried to do overhead with a pair of 9kg dumbbells it was so difficult I only managed a couple of reps. Why is this? I was just curious to try them.

Because the muscle was fatigued from yesterday?

I think its because it involves stabilizing 2 separate things as opposed to just 1.

    Aha, that makes sense.
Thanks. I just thought wth, I could barely lift them twice above my head, it was quite painful on the old muscles and I am sure feeling it now.
