Targeting the Back
Hey guys, I have been doing a 4-6 rep, 3 set workout routine for a few months now and I'm concerned with my back. Lower back is VERY easy to target because it's easy to isolate, but I'm more concerned with upper and middle back. Most exercises where I can effectively hit the 4-6 rep max out range tire out my arms more than…

What's Ideal, and What I Do
So there are a number of exercises that I wish I could do, but I have to trade off with something else because of pain. Here are mine, what are yours? Could help someone who has back pain or shoulder issues. Deadlifts -> Weighted Hyperextensions (lower back) Squats -> Leg Press, Machine (lower back) Weighted Dips -> Plate…

Best Weight Training App, iPhone
I use Fitness Buddy. It's an excellently produced app, and very comprehensive, but cumbersome in some areas (load last set button is crazy small, lags a little, easy to hit the wrong thing, etc...). What do you use?

Wider Shoulders
Any suggestions for exercises to gain wider shoulders? The only thing I have really come across are variations on the Lateral Dumbell Raise. I like the exercise and I'll do it till I die but I'm stuck now between 30 lbs (a bit too heavy for complete/proper full rep) and 25 lbs (a bit too light to max out). I would like to…

The "Yet" Mentality
So I've been reading some motivation topics here and responding and it dawned on me. Too few people have the "yet" mentality while they are working towards their goals. I had written "I don't have nice abs (yet!)" and I think that last part makes all the difference for me. If you're significantly overweight and you've lost…

Who the hell is really so busy?
I hear this all the time "I'm so busy..." "No time these days" "Can't do it too stressed/busy" WTF is going on with people these days really? Nevermind just exercise, what is everyone else up to that is keeping them so horribly occupied? We can't all have 18 hr work days... I think it's mostly BS.

In the Gym, 5 days a week
I do Chest, Back, Shoulders, Legs, Arms... then rest for two days and repeat. Am I overtraining? Am I undertraining? I see everyone talking about 5x5, which is the same thing 3 times a week with a day in between... See I actually like going to the gym, I would rather have a 5 day routine than a 3 day routine... But I also…

+500 Calories

How do you weigh yourself?
Since your high weights can be inflated (digesting food, water retention), but the lows cannot (you can't fake your lean & fat mass), I weigh every day or so and only log the lowest weight I see in a 7 day period. It doesn't discourage me. What's your approach? Also, do you include the number after the decimal? lol

Best Way to Weigh
==> Since your high weights can be artificial (digesting food, water retention), but the lows cannot (you can't fake your lean & fat mass), I recommend weighing every day or so and only logging the lowest weight you see in a 7 day period. <== DO NOT sweat the fluctuations, but if you see a lower number and you're sure the…

Didn't Gain Any Weight, Help
I'm trying to bulk now, and in 3 weeks I have only gained 1.5 pounds lifting heavy and eating excess calories. And this past week especially I haven't seemed to gain anything. I am very concerned with gaining fat, though I know it's inevitable, I do not want to overeat and gain more than is necessary. I'm a short man, and…

Short Lifters, Pic and Weight
I'm trying to get an idea for what weight I should be at when I hit my goals, given property BF%. Any short lifters who have put on muscle? What's your weight and post a pic.

Gym Zits
Alright, nasty title... do you guys use any special soap or whatever to clean your face after you lift at the gym? I keep getting one or another pimple here and there and it's really annoying. I honestly don't know much about acne so tips would be helpful.

Left Shoulder Lower Than Right
So I'm a righty, and my left shoulder is significanly lower than my right, and less developed (maybe about an inch lower). Never noticed it until I started working out at the dumbbell rack in front of the mirror. I know that no one is asymmetrical, BUT I'm still concerned about developing unevenly and *opening myself up to…

Bulking and Bloating
So I've been cutting, now I'm bulking by eating about TDEE + 500. I feel like I gained all my weight back lol but I know I haven't, and the fat calipers aren't showing an increase in BF% yet.... Could it be the pre-workout whey shakes and the post workout chocolate milk I'm drinking? Maybe just the extra food? All my…

Stretch Marks for Men
So I've started my first bulking routine and I've seen some growth (fantastic, lifting heavy) but I'm also starting to get stretch marks. I've had them for my whole life (as I remember them) on my inner thighs, but never elsewhere because I've never been overweight. I had only ever seen them on black guys and darker…

I'll Admit, I Like It
So I'll admit (damn I've posted a lot today...)... anyways, that working out is easy for me. I enjoy it, and I've always been physically active. In fact, not liking exercise seems like such a 1st World problem to me. I mean otherwise, your butt would get eaten by a lion, right? (Joke) Although, that thought actually…

From Cutting to Bulking (whey shakes and bloating?)
So I've been cutting (first time in my whole life I EVER dieted...) and now I'm done. I'm ready to eat an excess of calories and bulk a bit... and after only a week I feel like I've gained back the 18 lbs I lost lol (READ ON) For the record it's not even physically possible to have gained 1 lb this week, so it's not about…

Short Men and Muscle Mass (Ladies weigh in)
This one's for the ladies... I'm 5"4', and so I've been giving a lot of thought to exactly what kind of build I want. I've noticed a lot of other guys in the gym in my height range who are pretty bulky (have a "barrel chest" build) and I don't t know if I like the way that looks. It might look great on a taller guy, but I…

Calories to Bulk
Hi guys, I just finished a cutting regiment and now I've started eating to bulk this week. My goal isn't to eat everything in sight, I want an efficient target to minimize fat gains. So from what I understand you want to eat 500 calories beyond what you burn each day. For instance, if I burn 2,200 calories a day including…

Blind Leading the Blind

This site/forum needs a thread dedicated to sound exercise principles and basic weight loss info that isn't controversial…

Low Cal Snack Foods
Anyone have snacks that they work into their days for those inbetween meals? I'm looking for something filling, not orange slices lol. Freaking orange slices... The best I have found so far is Shredded Wheat, 160 Cal for 1 cup. It tastes good enough, and doesn't leave you wanting more like sugary food.

Excellent Ab Workout, Even for Wusses Like Me ;)
Hi guys, I just wanted to share since this is something that has helped me tremendously. I've been on the site for a few months now and I'm really serious about taking care of myself while I workout. I have a bad back and I generally don't like doing situps or even traditional crunches anymore (besides the back I hate…
