'Clean' eating for arthritis/inflammation?
Which foods are linked with either increasing or decreasing inflammation? I'm prepared to try something new for a couple of months to see if it might help with some inflammation issues. Have heard cutting dairy and carbs may help. I love my yogurt & cottage cheese, and bread makes life easier in a million ways, but I'd…

Ankle brace
Can anyone recommend a plastic, snug ankle brace that will keep the ankle completely rigid for use on a stationery bike?

Why do coffee shops make $hitty coffee?
I can count on like 3 places that are really out of my way to make a decent cup of jo. Everyone else sells dishwater. Just disappointed. And annoyed because it's so bad I'm going to have to start carrying a thermos or something around, or drink tea.

How can I learn to love upper/lower splits?
I usually prefer full-body workouts that alternate upper and lower movements, because it gives me enough time to recover from each. Plus I think when I'm doing lower, and then upper, the 'upper' distracts me enough from whatever's happening 'lower' to refocus. But I want to cut time at the gym down to just 'lower' + cardio…

Convenience-minded prep of dry beans for the week?
Usually I just get canned and rinse them a lot. Dried legumes are cheaper but a PITA. How long can you store them once cooked? How much do you generally prepare? Better to plan for 3 vs 5 days?

Handwriting vs typing - taking notes
I noticed, taking notes in a class today for a few hours, that my hands simply can't do it anymore. I used to be able to take wicked fast , practically verbatim notes. By the end of the first hour, my hand was stiff and swollen, and I was 3-5 thoughts behind. This made it hard to both listen and capture at the same time.…

dumb hurties
Anyone do this or anything like it? - step on DB - foot flips around so the TOP of the foot slams down hard on DB - try to hop onto other foot, land on another DB, which rolls away with that foot - fall on *kitten* - writhe and hyperventilate for 5 full minutes upgetup should probably give up, at this point...

Protein powder tastes gross
I just got an unflavoured type of whey isolate protein - liked the idea of it, because it had no other crap in it, & thought it could work with savoury flavours. Tried to mix it with plain Greek yogurt. Disgusting results! I don't even know how to describe it, it's like what I imagine gone-off paper might taste like. I…

Carb/cal cycling, fuelling, recovery
A lot of 'recomposition' type programs advocate fluctuating calories from day to day, eating more cals (and more carbs) on workout days (sometimes with fasted morning cardio, or just with a bit of protein beforehand), and eating fewer calories (with more from fat) on days off. Really roughly, how does that work? Because…

Can someone take a look at my workout?
I have chronic ankle pain. Anyone able to take a look at my program and see if it makes sense? I assume all liability, no one but me is liable, I am the only one liable for what I do to myself. I tried my Day 1 this afternoon and it's been ok so far :) Can't squat with weight, can't deadlift, gotta do something. Staying…

How crappy are those foldaway stationary bikes?
Possible to get an ok one for under $200 (or 150, ideally)? Can you easily switch between resistance levels? I mean the cheap manual ones, obviously.

Who here is hot as **** and regularly works around a thing? Like a bad back, busted foot, something chronic and annoying (MSK).

New Rules of Lifting for Life question
Are workarounds offered for specific injuries, or is it more like general advice? Looks like there's hopping stuff in a lot of it, still. Couldn't tell if machines were suggested ever, for anyone, under any circumstances. Ie will this help me work out around a bad foot?

100 cals for an all-beef hot dog, really?
Does that make sense? I got one from a stand, no idea what brand it was. It was one of those heavy-duty BBQ'd dogs, not the little guys that sit under a lamp all day. mfp suggestions are coming up 100-200, but even 200 sounds low.

No workouts = feeling down :(
I've had to really cut back or modify everything for some time. I have a follow-up tomorrow for an ankle that's been driving me NUTS forever. Couple of weeks ago, I did just a *bit* of time on a rower and felt a little pop on the OTHER side of the same ankle, so I've been scared to use it for even swimming since. (Twinges…

Rice cakes instead of popcorn - discovery!
I wanted popcorn, had none, and even if I did I'd have to do it over a stove, in oil, as have no popper. I mean I prefer it old school, but anyway. I DID have plain rice cakes (experiment). Crumbled them into a bowl & salted them. Afaic, It's practically the same as microwave popcorn, which I think is kind of gross, but…

Rowing machine - am I doing it right?
Technique wise, I've studied & try to imitate the Concept 2 videos. But I have not been able to achieve a sweat or even much of a heart rate with the tension thing on at 5, for 30 minutes, with a stroke per minute of 28-33. (Tried to keep resistance on the low side because did stuff with legs yesterday). Is that typical?…

Why isn't smoking just banned?
It's scandalous that governments continue to take money from addicts, knowing that a certain percentage of young people will continue to smoke (and that they're not likely to be the children of the current masters of the universe; maybe, they don't matter as much), and that they're likely to die before they drain the…

Best basic (classic) Pilates DVDs/books?
Looking for something with very precise instructions, solid cuing, excellent demonstrations, to learn Pilates fundamentals from. Not interested in Yogilates, Pilates-box, anything like that, or even a ball. I need to reeducate my whole body and really work on stabilizing things. Something with a rehab focus is more the…

Food prep (veg)
It looks like I have to eat close to a metric ton of veg to feel full on my calorie goal of 1800-2000. I'm spending years in the kitchen. How can I be more efficient at prepping all this? Can't lift over head
Or put any weight on the spine from that direction (not allowed to compress things). I'm also not to lift 'heavy'. I can do 15-20 reps. < Injury So what else can I do for squats? Would a goblet squat put the same forces on the spine? Am I limited to bodyweight now?

What results could be expected with this daily workout?
1 set of 10-20 reps of 5 exercises (basically, a squat, hip hinge, upper body pull & push + core). Plus, 20-60 mins cardio. Reference: http://bretcontreras.com/2012/01/ten-minute-a-day-keeps-the-doctor-away-a-5-set-full-bodyprogram/ What could you get with the above at maintenance calories? What about with a small deficit?

TOO MUCH VOLUME in one meal
2 cups soup, 2.5 cups veg (dense stuff, peppers, sprouts, not just your leafy greens), a fish fillet. I am going to burst. I have never experienced this kind of discomfort after eating, ever. So that's neat, in that I'm learning something new. But how to fix/how long to wait/any OTCs recommended?
