What Type of Vegetarian Are You?
I have this theory that there are 3 types of vegetarians: 1. THE HEALTH NUT - a person who has decided on a vegetarian diet because they believe it is healthier than a meat-based diet. 2. THE ANIMAL LOVER - a person who couldn't stand the thought of supporting the genocide of animals for human consumption. 3. THE FLAVOR…

Help others in the group out! Post your fast day recipes or meal ideas here. Here's the meal we had last night (consequently, it's also this group's logo): 2 1/2 carrots, cut into small sticks (107g to be exact) 50g of sugar snap peas 150g of cucumber 1/2 cup hummus (I use Trader Joe's 3 Layer Hummus...100 calories for 1/4…

Grad School, Stress, and Rewards
I'm heading back to grad school next month for the second time. One Masters degree was not enough, apparently, to survive the recession :-D In college, I rewarded myself for surviving hard days or getting through a tough project using food. My friends know exactly what I mean when I say it's going to be a "Cheesecake and…

Do you really do this for your UC?
I was recently diagnosed with UC (albiet mild to moderate). My gastroenterologist told me I'd have to do the following for the rest of my life: 1. I have to see him twice a year, more if I had a flare. 2. I have to get a series of blood tests twice a year. 3. I must get the flu shot every year because if I get the flu, my…

How did you log your punches in MFP?
I couldn't find anything for "punches" in MFP's exercise database except using a punching bag. I'm curious if you logged it as this or something else. Thanks!

Low Fiber Diet?
I'm going in for a colonoscopy next week and I'm supposed to eat a "low fiber diet." The list of foods I can and can't eat make absolutely no sense whatsoever. I can eat applesauce but can't eat an apple - huh?! Has anyone else had to eat a low fiber diet for two days and fast one day before their colonoscopy? What did you…

Were you vegetarian before MFP/dieting or after?
Hi everyone - I thought it would be interesting to find out if you decided to go vegetarian to lose weight or whether you were already vegetarian when you decided you needed to lose weight. Answer the questions below. I've provided my own answers, too. 1. Were you vegetarian before dieting or after? BOTH. When I first…

How's it going?
I'm on my 7th (8th?) week of 5:2 - 9 pounds have melted away. I'm pretty darn happy with the results of this diet! I plateaued somewhere around the 4th-5th week, but then the scale numbers started dropping again. 5:2 really has some staying power for me. I went on vacation for a week and my husband and I decided not to…

Hooray "Acceptable!"
Today marks the end of my second week of the 5:2 diet! I did my measurements and I now have "acceptable" body fat levels! I have lost 5 pounds of body fat in 2 weeks. That's crazy! I am really looking forward to the next 2 weeks!

When And How Often Do You Weigh Yourself?
I've successfully completed my first full week on 5:2. However, I have been weighing myself every day in the morning. The numbers, of course, fluctuate. They seem to do a downward zigzag. On the fast day it is down, then it goes up, then after the next fast day it goes down below the previous fast day weight. It's…

Did You Read The Fast Diet book?
I read The Fast Diet: The Simple Secret of Intermittent Fasting: Lose Weight, Stay Healthy, Live Longer by Michael Mosley and Mimi Spencer. In fact, I read it in 2 days. It's a really fast read (irony!). It's a pretty interesting book, mainly focusing on the scientific basis for why intermittent fasting is good for your…

What is the 5:2 Fast Diet? (Includes Helpful Tips)
WHAT IS THE 5:2 FAST DIET? 5 days out of the week, you eat whatever you want as you would normally. 2 days out of the week, you fast by only eating 500 calories for women or 600 calories for men on those days. That's it. HOW DOES FASTING WORK? Many people do fasting differently. From what I have read, it is considered…

Distribution of Calories Throughout Meals
MFP put me on a 1200 calorie intake diet. I exercise every day (it's great having a dog who always needs a walk!) and I generally do eat whatever calories I've earned through exercising. My problem seems to be distributing calories throughout the day. My dinner and dessert calories are DOUBLE what I eat for breakfast and…
