Restrictions Driving Me Batty
For those of you who aren't following along, or can't remember who is doing what for how many cookies, I've been on an exceedingly restrictive eating plan for a bit in addition to being low carb. I had to raise my carbs because I could not for the life of me figure out how the heck to eat under 50g carbs a day and still…

Jawbone Up?
Amazon now has the original Jawbone Up for $40. Seriously considering getting one, anything I should know? Any reason to run away and get a Fitbit? I know I have to plug it into my phone to sync.

"Memories" & old toxins in Fat Cells?
Has anybody heard the theory that your fat cells hold old toxins and "memories" of when you've been sick that are released as you lose fat? I'm just wondering because every single time I start losing weight, I get respiratory crud within a few weeks, and I can't figure out why. Back 8 or 9 years, before I went GF, and…

19 days...
...and I broke my streak. Fritos, bean dip, Dr. Pepper, and dark chocolate chips. Multiple variables affected this, including TOM, food not being ready at dinner time, not eating enough during the day, feeling like crap (see TOM & being glutened Saturday), being braindead, and not moving much during the day. Also being…

Original Jawbone Up
Does anybody have experience with the original Jawbone Up? They're about $40 on Amazon right now. I know you have to plug them into the headphone jack. Will they actually wake you up? Are they reasonably consistent, if not accurate?

LC versus Ketosis
For the past week, I've been eating about 20% carbs (70g), 57% fat (88g), and 23% protein (82g). The week before was 10% (30g), 61% (84g), and 29% (90g). I'm averaging 1200-1400 calories per day. In my 15 days of behaving (ie, not eating things that I react to), I'm down 9 pounds, and having a bunch of other good side…

Septic & LCHF
Anybody have issues with their septic because of the fat? I try to put most into a jar for the trash, but some still goes down the drain. I use Rid X regularly, but right now it's still stinking in the house. Then again, it's never been right since I accidentally used the Clorox drop-in for the toilet...

Need More Calories
Ok, so with all my restrictions, I'm having issues getting enough calories in. Trying to keep carbs under 50g a day. Restrictions: Gluten, Dairy, Chicken, Eggs, Grains (except rice, but not LC), Artificial Sweeteners, Sugar (I can have small amounts of honey, molasses, coconut sugar, and stevia), and Almonds. I made stir…

Whole30 Timeline, does it match LCHF?
So far, this seems to mesh pretty well with my experience: http://whole30.com/2013/08/revised-timeline/ Does it sound about right for the process of going LCHF?

FIVE Days
Baby steps, right? I've actually managed to stick to my guns for 5 days with most days carbs under 50 and only one with carbs high, but still under 100. I haven't broken down for Fritos and bean dip, and I haven't eaten too terribly much of the things that hate me (gluten, almonds, dairy, corn, sugar, fake sugar, eggs,…

Electrolytes and Heat
I live in an area where it can get up to 115F during the summer, and I'm still crazy enough to ride a motorcycle and exercise some days. I've ALWAYS been one of the people who doesn't deal particularly well with the heat, and am a bit worried about this summer. You see, I normally just drank Gatorade any time I had an…

Protein Powder
I've been specifically instructed not to skip meals anymore, and breakfast is my kryptonite. So, I got some protein powder that meets almost all of my restrictions (not going to stress over stevia, but it doesn't have whey, soy, eggs, or pea protein). I mix a scoop in with my coffee in the morning. The problem is, I was…

A Little More Light Has Been Shed...
So, after another month of misbehavior, I went back to my hippie woowoo doctor (my husband's term for him - he's a chiro who does a lot of health & wellness). He basically told me to freakin' get my butt on Atkins' and do it. I'm having hypoglycemic reactions, which is why my on-again-off-again kept getting further and…

Wandering off for a bit
I seem to be getting more and more neurotic about my food and unable to stick to low carb for more than a few days at a time. I think I'm going to back off from tracking, from reading about food, from trying to force my body into something my mind is strenuously resisting for some reason. I'm going to try to just stick to…

Low Carb & Adrenals
Almost every blogger I've seen who has adrenal issues seems to blame it at least partly on going too low carb. What's the deal? It's making me seriously wonder if I should hold off on ZC and maybe even bump my carbs up some to see if that helps. Any insights?

Cracklin' Chicken (NomNomPaleo)

She's not kidding about using a splatter screen or putting a towel down. Don't fry bacon naked applies to this as well. I won't be doing it again until I get a splatter…

Next Best Step
So, I've been, honestly, sucking at sticking to low carb. After discussing it with my hubby (and some of my friends here), I came to a few realizations. * Yes, as a matter of fact, what I eat is directly related to my level of anxiety & depression, as well as energy. * Yes, I need to figure out how to prepare ahead of time…

Testing Blood Glucose?
For the sake of curiosity, I want to start testing my blood glucose. A few questions, if y'all are willing to put up with my ignorance. Feel free to just link me somewhere. 1. Is there actually a great deal of difference between glucometers? (if so, any recommendations?) 2. Are there other supplies I may need as well? 3.…

Mayo made with bacon grease
While I'm certain it will be awesome when we make burgers tomorrow, homemade mayo made with 3/4 bacon grease tastes just plain weird in tuna salad. That is all.

Steak Wrap
I found what to do with the thin steaks: http://www.examiner.com/article/lightning-low-carb-recipes-steak-wrap We used to take tortillas filled with cream cheese & salsa when we went out camping...I think I might like this one even better!

Bulletproof Coffee & MCT Oil?
I realize that he's a brilliant marketer, but has anyone tried his coffee and MCT Oil and noted a difference between them & mainstream products? I'm almost to the end of my bottle of regular MCT Oil and was considering trying his.

Spicy, little chewing, & easy to make?
So, I can't chew right now because my throat hurts. I'm too lazy to cook something complicated, but would LOVE something spicy (yes, I crave spicy things when my throat hurts). My canned chili has 66g carbs, so that's a no go. Any suggestions?

How Would You Characterize Your Old Eating Habits?
Just out of curiosity, how would you characterize your old eating habits? I was on the "Hummingbird Diet", where you eat half your weight in sugar every day. I had no problems with eating cake or cookies for pretty much every meal and considered pumpkin pie to be a vegetable.

Calorie Intake
What happens to you when you don't eat enough calories on a regular basis? What about protein? I'm asking because I seem to feel driven to eat carbs every 4-5 days, and when I look at my food logs, I'm only eating 1000-1200 calories on the days when I don't eat carbs. The Ankerl calculator says that 1200 calories is a 38%…

Good news!
I had suspected I was reacting to cream, and finally figured out what I was reacting to, and it WASN'T the cream. If I drink crappy coffee, my throat itches. If I use the expensive stuff (the name will get censored if I post it here, but you can find it by searching for KickDonkey & replacing Donkey with the appropriate…
