date consumption and the effects on labor
A while back someone on here started a thread about date consumption and the effects on labor. At the bottom there is a copy and paste of the article. Well, in the original thread I had promised a date recipe I had and I finally remembered to post it today...of course now I can't find the original thread so I had to start…

Low carb in pregnancy with a TMI alert
So I love carbs...in fact, I could eat nothing but carbs all day, every day and be very happy. I normally have no issues with grains, gluten or dairy but my body has been high jacked by a little alien girl and I am having issues with yeast....TMI, I know. I’m sorry. This also happened with my last baby.....who is also a…

Doula
So I am thinking about hiring a doula this time around. I was wondering if any of you had one before and if you think it is worth the extra expense. In my area, doulas run from about $600 to $800. Just wanted some of your insight, good or bad. Thanks!

Positve score for Open Neural Tube Defects (AFP)
Hi....anyone else get a positive result for this test? I did a couple days ago and I am terrified. I scored a 2.5 MoMs which is the exact cut off. At 2.49 MoMs, I would be considered negative which is just my luck. I went in for an in depth ultrasound yesterday and the baby looks great so far but she is still pretty little…

anxiety before ultrasound
Hi ladies!! So after suffering a missed miscarriage this last fall, I am lucky to say that I am now 12.5 weeks into this pregnancy (due 1/2/14). I am having the big 12 week ultrasound tomorrow as well as genetic counseling. I am soooooo nervous I can't stand it. I am praying that I get to see a little heartbeat this time.…

placenta encapsulation
Anyone here done this or planning on it? I have read so many benefits about doing it including greatly reducing PPD and other symptoms after birth. It can also greatly increase your milk supply. I had major issues with hair loss after my last birth so I am hoping this will help me. Despite the yuck factor for some, I think…

corpus luteum cyst
Any of you gals have this going on? I have been bleeding (spotting mostly) since before I even knew I was pregnant (I'm due 1/04/14 and am 7.5 weeks). Then last Friday I had a big bleed and I thought for sure I was losing my baby. I have already lost one back in December so I was devastated. Well, they got me in for an…

Any geriatric mamas? Advanced maternal age...ugh!
So apparently I am an old fart with decrepit old eggs  At the ripe old age of 38, I am considered advanced maternal age. Is it just me or does that just sound horrible? My doctor also happened to mention to me (after I told her how nervous I am) that I am at a 35% chance of miscarriage and there is nothing they can do…

To all the meat heads...men and ladies alike!!!
I have a question and I am hoping one of you can help me. There is so much information to sift through out there that I thought I would ask you for your opinions. First off, I lift heavy and I love it. Although I am getting stronger and stronger, lifting is really more about aesthetics for me more than just getting…

Muscle recovery
I found an interesting article on muscle recovery. I am finding that the heavier I go (with more compound exercises as opposed to my old split routine), the longer I am taking to recover (duh!)....I used to be able to skip one day between lifting sessions but it looks like I am going to need two days in between (at least)…

Lifting an empty bar is making me sad
Hi girlies! I am new to stronglifts but not to lifting heavy. I am feeling totally awkward and almost like I am cheating lifting so light in the beginning...I mean, I was almost embarrassed to have 2.5 pound weights on the squat bar last night. It was also weird to be able to be done so quickly as my old split routine used…

Hi!!! I am newish to MFP and I would like some more supportive friends. I have been logging for months but recently decided to kick it up a notch by adding friends to help encourage me through the hard times. Cool new finds
Hi! I just found the coolest new finds at Cost Plus World Market and I thought I'd share.......They are called Wickles and they are totally addictive. They're like a cross between a sweet pickle and a spicy pickle. I have never had anything like them before. I understand that they are normally only available in the south…

HRM~ fat v. muscle (how accurate)
Hi all.....I have a question for all the big brains on MFP. How does a HRM determine calorie burn strictly by pulse, age and weight? In my mind a more muscular person should burn more than a not so muscular person even if they weigh the same. In the same aspect, a more muscular person who works out a lot may have a lower…
