Anyone else in week 4 of Turbo Fire this week 2/21/2011
I am wondering what you think of the program so far, and if you're seeing results?

Daily template for designing your menu - anyone have one?
I want to tighten up my diet this week. I am adjusting to thinking in terms of calories in/out, but now I feel I need more guideance on composition of those calories - for example, how many servings of nuts should I have per day? How about lean protein? How about beans? Dairy? A couple of days this week, I did well with…

How long before losing weight when you begin a workout plan
If you find yourself 4 weeks into a workout plan (plus moderate calorie reduction) and see no loss, but feel smaller, what does that mean? It means you've increased muscle mass and lost fat in exchange, making you smaller, but the same weight (the bricks and feathers comparison comes to mind) But, WHEN does the scale…

Ladies with 80+ lbs to lose, do you do "recovery" shakes?
I have read and read and read on this subject, but just end up confused. Some articles state recovery protein shakes or snacks are essential, others say it stands in the way of fat burning. So, what are the ones with lots to lose doing? I have 80+ lbs to lose - should I be having a recovery drink or snack after a 450…

After a week of avg 1600/day, no loss. Should I reduce more
So, I looked over my menu for the past week, and it seems I averaged about 1600/day. I weighed this morning, and have a 2.0 lb gain for the week. I am considering reducing my cals to 1350. Stats: 38 years old Female 240 lbs Goal of 165 Exercise 6 days a week, Turbo Fire. Should I further reduce my calories? Maybe to 1350?…

is toning enough "weight training"? (turbo fire specific)
Tomorrow, I start adding in more "sculpt" and "tone" DVDs to my current Turbo Fire cardio schedule. Will that be enough "weight training" for now to incorporate into my cardio? Its my 4th week of working out.

Are the rules different for obese people regarding calories,
I have about 80 lbs to lose - 100 if I want to get into the lower end of my "normal" weight. What rules might be different for the folks that have so much to lose? Can we shoot for more than 2 lbs per week? Can we create larger defecits without risking "starvation" mode? Should we avoid "cheat" days? Is it more or less…

Its 3:00 in the afternoon and you only have 300 calories lef
Somehow, I managed to eat most of my calories already. If you only had 300 cals left for the day, how would you spend those calories, and at what times? edit for typo

Do you subtract cals from your HRM results for "living" cals
If your body is burning, lets say, 100 cals per hour simply for living and existing - then you exercise for one hour and your HRM says 500 - did you ACTUALLY only increase your caloric burn by 400? (hope this makes sense) I am just wondering if I should be eating back only 400 out of 500 exercise calories since 100 of…

How do you create a hybrid (turbo fire based)
How do you design a hybrid workout schedule? You who are doing the Chalene Extreme/Turbo Fire hybrid - where did you get the schedule? I am feeling burned out after 3 weeks of Turbo fire - I think its the erratic schedule - I like things mixed up, but this schedule is a little too mixed up and I don't understand the logic…

Cardio or abs first? Also, do HRMs work for ab workouts?
Is there a rule of whether you should do cardio or strength training first? I want to do a HIIT dvd along with my ab dvd. Was thinking I'd do abs first. Any reason why not? Also - do HRMs work with toning dvds?

I HATE the scale - need a pep talk!
Please someone, talk some sense into me before I give up on this elusive thing called "weight loss." I lost 6 lbs last week (by following a very sensible 1500 cal diet and working out) and this week after 5 days, I got on the scale (because its Friday and I like to check in with myself on Fridays to make sure I'm on the…

confused about maximum vs target heart rate
I am 38, weigh 239 lbs. Today, my HRM had me at 164 bpm for a lot of my workout - sometimes dropping into 130's. I am confused as to where I should be. Is it bad to go above your target heart rate? What is the difference between "target" heart rate and "maximum" heart rate?

Can you share a HRM?
I bought a Polar FT7 today! I tried it tonight and loved having it. Its like a little buddy. I am wondering if I can let my hubby borrow it? If I change the settings so he can get a calories burned read out, then change it back for myself? Or would that not be a good idea?

Calories - I am stumped
I filled out the questionnaire when signing up here, and according to that, for me to lose 2 lbs per week, I am only allowed 1330 or so calories a day. That seems soooo impossibly low for me. Is that possible? How do I distribute these caloreis? I am not whining - I am willing to do whatever it takes, but I know myself,…

38 going on 21? Am I starting my midlife crisis?
I am a mother of 3 and married for 16 years. For the past few months, I have just felt like all I want to do is "party".... you know, socialize, go out, drink and be merry.... I have lost interest in staying home "for quiet nights in". I catch myself daydreaming a lot about the weekends, I find myself craving the music of…

Time between cardio workouts?
I ran on my treadmill last night about 6 pm - And I am getting ready to do some Hiit training right now - is it too soon? I know you should rest between muscle groups when lifting, but when you're doing cardio aren't your legs a muscle group, and if so, should you wait 24 hours between working them with cardio? Thanks...

Adding extra workout to counteract "mistakes" Is this normal
So my husband left me a tiny box of chocolate for Valentines Day. Only 4 pieces - I ate it this afternoon and just considered it as one of my meals. Well, it put me into a tailspin and within an hour of that chocolate, I was scrounging for more and ended up eating 8 more pieces and a cupcake. :( I had already worked out…

Lost 6 lbs this week - don't know whether to smile or frown.
I swear, I've eaten all my exercise cals and I have been trying to stay at 1500-1600 cals per day, even though MFP recommends 1350, and yesterday I even had a cheat day and had cheesecake and a few drinks. Should I up my cals even more?

Turbo fire/cardio questions
Do you HAVE to follow the exact schedule for Turbo Fire? When I am following Turbo fires official schedule, I get totally bummed when there is no cardio on the schedule. For example, yesterday I was supposed to do the Core 20. Instead I slapped in the Fire 30. I can't bear to be without cardio. But, then I feel bad that I…

Is it bad to workout hard when you are very overweight?
As I said in another post, I have been doing Turbo Jam dvds, and surprisingly for my weight (245) I can hang with them pretty well! I just wonder, as long as my joints are ok and I don't pass out (he he) is there any reason NOT to work out this hard when you weight so much? My goal is 165, so I am 80lbs overweight. Will I…

Is Turbo Fire enough? Should I add weight training?
I am doing Turbo Fire and following the schedule. Because of the arm work/squats during the workouts, is there enough strength training, or should I add strength training? I keep reading things that say if you don't add some weights, you are more likely to lose muscle mass if you are just doing cardio. If the answer is…

Need help designing a workout regimen.
Hi all - for the last month, I have been doing turbo jam and turbo fire dvds. I have attempted to follow the turbo fire schedule, but I'm not sure I like it. I feel like I need some weight training in the mix, and I'm not sure if I like the HIIT concept. Should I be doing cardio every day? Shouldn't I incorporate weight…

Any hairdressers/stylists on MFP?
Just wondering!

MFP give same calorie goal, no matter what weight goal is?
Today I changed my weight loss goal from 165 to 200 just to see what the recommended calories per day would be if I set my goal a little lower. (As I said in a previous post, I am afraid of drastically reducing my cals from the current 2400 to a sudden 1300) Well, MFP still recommended 1300 cals even when I changed my goal…

How to do the "mini-meal" thing when you have children?
Any meal ideas (or coping strategies... LOL) for what to do at dinnertime when the whole family sits down expecting a big, 4 course meal, and you are only allowed a 350 calorie meal? Do I just focus on providing a healthy, balanced dinner, and I only get 350 calories worth? I dunno - I guess I just feel silly when I see…

New girl: 38 yo, current: 245 goal: 165
Hi everyone. Not sure how much I'll post, but I thought I'd start with an introduction. I love the concept of a diet message board because I have very little support in my real life. Looking forward to weight loss and giving/receiving support. MichChick
