Hypothyroid swelling/Levothyroxine complaints
So, like everyone else I've been dealing with a lot since my thyroidectomy. I had my surgery in August 2012. Mid summer 2 years ago I started having trouble breathing, horrible leg swelling, puffy hands and feet anytime I did any type of exercise. So, i stopped walking. My eating stayed the same (not good not bad) and I…

Cancer and double hernias..
Digging down DEEP into the heart and soul of my determination. Somehow in 2015 my "screw it I don't give a crap" mentality kicked in and I did not care what I ate or how much I moved. Funny though, the scale never crept up and I stayed the same (which is certainly not a number I would brag about). Entering into 2016 with…

Thyroid cancer/thyroid problems
Come join us THYROID CANCER SURVIVORS in the thyroid cancer/thyroid problems group. A great place to meet other people with similar challenges and finding ways to bust through the myths and the ups and downs of dealing with this "new normal" and push through. My endorinologist and PCP both told me I would not lose weight…

Busting the Synthroid and diet myth
When I was first put on my Synthroid dose of 175 mcg I told my endo "wowl this is such a high dose, I know it's going to help me lose weight." She laughed and said "Synthroid is weight-based, it's high because your overweight." Well that sucks. I also asked her if a Weight Watchers diet or Atkin's diet would better suit…

Do you log what you eat before you eat it?
I log my next meal before I eat it to make sure I'm staying within my calorie range of what I want for the meal. Just wondering if anyone else does this too? Seems to help me stay on track instead of having the shock later of what I put in my mouth  Also changed my diary to go back to what I was told years ago when my…

Has anyone been told WHY they got thyroid cancer??
I grew up withing a 30 mile radius of a nuclear power plant and when I had my surgery, my surgeon compared it to pictures he has seen from people who were affected by Chernobyl. Wondering if anyone else diagnosed lived around this power plants? There are lots of cancers in my hometown and it's a well known fact that the…

HCTZ: Are you on it?
After a thyroidectomy it's pretty typical to stay on a calcium supplement is what I was told from my endocrinologist. During my surgery 2 of my parathyroids were removed and my calcium dropped too low and since then I've been put on HCTZ to help my body absorb my 4 daily calcium supplements. Anyone else doing this too?

How to survive the LID (low iodine diet)
When I first heard I was going on the LID diet to prepare for the RAI for my thyroid cancer AKA "good cancer" (and THAT phrase is an overused oxymoron), I thought I was only going to be able to eat mustard, wood, sugar and surprisingly alcohol. So I guess I could have gotten drunk while eating my mustard, wood and…
