Recomposition help
I need help! I can't lose anymore weight (well, I can but I shouldn't lol) but I want to gain some muscle and lose some fat. I'm pretty "skinny fat" right now and not very strong. Where do I even start? I'm lost and I didn't see anything about it in the masterpost pinned in this forum. Do I just eat at maintenance, lots of…

How MFP logs exercise
Just a weird inconsistency I noticed. I set my activity level to "sedentary" so that any walking I did would just get factored in. However, when you input it as exercise, if I walked 3 miles in an hour it would tell me I burned something like 180 cals. But when it's just counting my steps and distance walked, I walk at a…

The binge/restrict cycle
Howwww do I get out of this. I used to have an ED as well as a history of poverty and not enough food so I'm alternately scared of being hungry and scared of being full. Now it seems like even minor/moderate restriction sets me up to binge even though I used to restrict much lower all the time. How do I deal with this? I…

What do you do to move on after a binge?
Just ate a ridiculous number of Oreos and I'm feeling *kitten* physically and for reversing all my progress for the day. I want to be skinny yesterday but I'll never get there if I keep doing this... other than the obvious "think about why you binged so it doesn't happen again next time" any advice for moving on?

Is it okay to go over your calories some days?
Obviously it will slow things down, but... I binged today, 500 cals over maintenance. I was 500 cals under yesterday, so theoretically I should be maintaining, right? But is that actually how it works? And does cycling like this have any effect on your metabolism?

How do you stay patient?
It's driving me crazy. I know of course I can't reasonably expect to lose noticeable weight in a few weeks, and it requires patience and probably gradual loss, but I'm in a phase where restricting feels easy and I just want it to come off as fast as possible. How do you deal with this? I know long-term lifestyle change…

Step counting vs activity level
So now that MFP can sync up with my iphone to count my steps, I'm confused about how many calories I'm actually burning. What I used to do was set my activity level to sedentary, and count any "extra" movement as calories burned. So I would walk 4-10 miles a day, and MFP would give me 100-150 extra calories. (TDEE…

Any ideas for where to find a public scale?
I can't really afford a scale right now, and I don't need one, but I'd like to check my weight once in a while. I don't want to go to my campus health center and ask to get weighed because that would be strange and possibly concerning. Does anyone know where I might find a scale in a public place to get an idea? The…

Depression and motivation?
So I've been dealing with depression lately, and I have to struggle to motivate myself to get out of bed and go to class, never mind exercising. (Anyone who says that exercise helps depression, I am aware that that is *technically* true sometimes, but I am currently too tired to do it thanks to... depression.) I'm not…

Anxiety and weight loss
(Not sure if this is the right section put put this in, but whatever.) I've been having a lot of seemingly random, baseless anxiety lately, and as a result I've been binging. Does anyone else struggle with this and have other distractions/coping mechanisms? I don't know what to do about it. Nothing else is distracting or…

Scale trouble
My scale's been doing this weird thing. I step on it and it goes to one weight (ex 58.8 kg) and then I'll step off for a second, and the number will go to 0. Then if I step on it again, while it is still displaying 0 (instead of off) it will go to a much lower weight (ex 57.2) and then show that one consistently. Which one…

How do you decide on a goal weight?
So, I have no idea what my "natural" weight is or should be, since my eating habits have been abnormal and unhealthy more or less since high school, and I've only just dealt with that in the past year or so. My weight is at exactly the average for my height/age right now, but I'm naturally smaller-framed and I think I'd…

Weight loss after an eating disorder?
To start with, please don't tell me to talk to a therapist/nutritionist/etc. because that's not really an option for financial reasons if nothing else. I also know that there probably aren't a lot of people here with eating disorders, but I'm going to bet that there are quite a few who have gone through stages of…

Getting back on track?
For various reasons I've gone a couple of weeks without logging or paying attention to calories *or* how my body feels, and it's becoming a bad habit. I want to get back into good practices, but it's hard to interrupt this cycle now. Does anyone have advice for how to get back on track after messing up for a few weeks? (I…

CrossFit?
No one attack me! So, my mother is trying to persuade me to go to a CrossFit place near our house. It is within walking distance, which is pretty important, and I'd like to get a little stronger. On the other hand, I've read things on the internet about it being a cult (which could be okay), a gimmick (which would not be…

Can you really not lose fat in a specific area?
Sorry, I know people ask this all the time. But I see people with flat stomachs but no thigh gap quite frequently, and even when I weighed less than 90 pounds mine still didn't look like that. I know people have different body types, but like even when there was a hand's width of space between my thighs with knees together…

Hi! Buddies, anyone?
I don't know if this is something of a strange request, but if anyone feels like it I think I need a buddy--someone who can hold me accountable if I've binged, who doesn't look at my diary and judge. Basically I'm terrible at being accountable to myself, so I want to have to tell someone if I've stuck to my goals or not.…

Easy exercises that don't require equipment?
So, I want to start exercising a little more. I don't have access to a gym or equipment or even a wii or anything. I'm also embarrassingly out-of-shape and I have really bad asthma (doesn't have to do with size/health, has to do with being born 4 months prematurely.) Anyway, basically the only exercise I can do is walking,…

How to stop eating when not hungry?
So, basically I've been recovering from an eating disorder. And when I was >90 pounds, it was physically really hard to eat at all. Like, if I ate a banana and an apple I would feel really sick and have to lie down and I got full really easily. So I forced myself to eat sort of mechanically and ignore when my body was…

Hi, I'm a newbie
And I forgot to introduce myself until now ^ ^v so I'm 18, 5'3.5 (the half inch is important to me, okay?! :P) and until a few years ago I was always naturally quite thin. Long story short, I started eating quite a lot out of boredom more than anything else, and to spite my older sister who was naturally heavier and always…

Eating at night
Does anyone else tend to binge/snack/eat at night after being good all day? I always seem to end up doing it, and it's quite frustrating. I've been trying to eat dinner earlier, but it doesn't completely fix the problem. Does anyone have a good way to avoid this? Thanks :3

Exercise at home
So I'm a bit of a newbie to intentionally exercising, and I'm still super lazy, out-of-shape, asthmatic, bleh. Anyway, I can't get to a gym right now, and it's ridiculously freezing outside, so it's harder to go for walks. I was wondering what some exercises are that can be done at home without equipment? I do have a yoga…

So, disgusting question...
Just curious, but if you eat and then throw up, do you still count the calories? Have you like absorbed them or whatever, or only some of them, or what? :P (Sorry, I know it's disgusting, but I stupidly exercised too hard yesterday and ended up losing my lunch. And now I'm curious. FOR SCIENCE.)
