Change of diet when it gets cold?
Winter is coming in my part of the world.... actually, it's just getting a bit chillier and I'm a) starving all the time and b) cold. I'm eating 1600 calories a day, which might actually be a bit low for my level of activity. Do I up the calories a bit or adjust my macros? Ideas/suggestions welcome :)

Total daily water intake. Do you include tea/coffee/other dr
Just curious. I've read that tea/coffee/diet coke are diuretic so don't really count towards the 2ltrs recommended, but I've ALSO read that the diuretic effect is minimal and so DO count. I only have 1 coffee in the morning and 1 tea in the afternoon, and DON'T count them. I've ALSO read that it's not really necessary to…

How do you deal with aggressive cyclists?
My favourite running route is a long, straight stretch of road with very little traffic. It's also very popular with cyclists who seem to think that they have more rights than I do. On more than on occasion I've been sworn at or been aimed at with their bikes and had to jump out of the way. I run against the traffic, so at…

Can it be 'too hot to run'? Health reasons
I mean obviously, when it's 35C out like today, I really don't feel like it BUT is there a temperature when it becomes risky/dangerous/just a bad idea from a health point of view? I rode (horse) for half an hour today and felt quite ill when I got off.

Running schedules/programmes?
I currently run 8km 4 times a week. I do some sprints, etc, and a lot of it is up and down looong hills, but I would like to shake it up some more. I don't want to race, just get better at it (am very slow!) How do you run? Are there any programmes I can follow? Any suggestions? Thanks :)

Getting chased by animals on your run....
Bet you've never come across one of THESE!!!! The line in the road is 10cm wide I made great time on the way home :) :)

Exercise versus genetics
I've just watched Penn and Teller's Exercise versus Genetics and .... I'm confused.... surely you can't pin EVERYthing on genetics? I mean... I'm sure it's relevant to a point, but there MUST be outside influences; lifestyle choices, upbringing, etc. I mean... lets suppose someone is overweight, out of shape, etc... why…

Use of HRM
I have a new Polar FT7 for running. I was wondering at what point do you stop it after the run? I'm using it until my HR returns to normal both to see how long it takes to get back and total calories. Does this sound OK?

Less sweat than usual on my run. Anyone know why?
Started running when I was living in the UK, got used to sweating buckets. Now in Argentina and have been for my first run. Felt very very hot but didn't sweat as much as usual. Would this be a climate issue? It's very very dry here and I really felt the heat.

Knee pain cycling but NOT running?
Any ideas why my knees hurt when I cycle (I ride a bike to work; 15mins each way) but not when I run? I get some top of foot pain and the knees will also ache after a long run, but not during. I run every other day, alternating days with gym, including 10 mins of elliptical trainer (also doesn't hurt) before strength…

Top of foot pain AFTER run... What's that all about?
To summarise, I decided to start running, got my gait analysed, got some good shoes, started running (can run 24mins continuously so far) and all goes well DURING the run, but on the cooldown walk and if I walk barefoot, SO much pain!! If I start running again, no problem. What's that all about and what can I do about it?…

What level of activity would you say this is?
I've just started a new job as the Yard Manager of a riding club/stud. This involves a LOT of aerobic activity; grooming, tacking up, leading horses, sweeping, carrying huge buckets of water, general running around for 8-12 hours a day. I'm always shattered at the end of the day and need to work out my new TDEE so ideas…

Do you let people know when you're watching your diet?
As title; Family/friends/colleagues. Do people encourage you? Do they help you watch what you eat? Is it helpful to you? My family know when I'm watching my diet, but I don't tell anyone else as it drives me nuts if they ask "Should you be eating that?" or I catch them looking at my plate checking out what's on it, whether…

If you fall short on your calories on a certain day....
..because you're just not all that hungry, do you ... a) Eat something to make up the shortfall even if you don't fancy it b) Save the calories for the next day c) Save for several days so you can have a real treat? OR do you aim for a weekly average so the daily total is less relevant? Also, what sort of 'shortfall' would…

Question for those who watch protein vs carbs
Do you work this out as a grams amount per day. If so, presumably it varies depending on the amount of food you eat, or is it more important to balance protein against carbs as a percentage amount? Does that make sense?

Hello from Argentina
Hi, have been on MFP for a few weeks now after deciding to get back in shape. I used to work with horses, exercising, mucking out, grooming etc, so was very fit. Since only riding my own, the weight has crept on. I'm also slightly hypothyroid, which didn't help. That's now been treated so weight loss is a lot easier. I…
