What is next after 5K?
I am new to running. Started 6 month ago. My first 5K was in September. The second will be tomorrow. What is the next distance that new runners run after they manage to complete 5K without stopping? Should I concentrate on doing more 5Ks and get a little faster or consider a longer distance? Mark

Wear one or two for tomorrow’s 5K race
I am running my second 5K tomorrow and have a question related to what to wear. It was a little colder two days ago, but after about one minute of running I felt fine. I run in the city with tall buildings and I don’t feel any wind impact. Tomorrow’s race will be in an open area and the wind will be a factor to consider.…

What to do/not to do before the official race?
I ran my second 5K training run in preparation for my first official 5K race Distance 3.35 miles, time 35.52 minutes, average minutes per mile 10:42. I feel that I am falling in love with running. My official run will be on 9/18/11. Any advice what to do and what not to do on 9/18 in the morning and the day before?

Do I have any chances?
I started jogging recently. Currently I manage to run a mile every day. It feels comfortable and I started to feel a delicate appetite for more. I just read about a 4 mile run to be held in a month. Do I have any chances to get ready for it? If yes, what steps would you recommend I take during the next 30 days? If no, how…

If you dind't start jogging/running yet
If you dind't start jogging/running yet, Go for it. Don’t wait any longer. Even a short distance will make you feel great after you finish. Don’t feel embarrassed by your slow pace. If people look at you, it means they wish they had the courage to jog like you. I jogged very slowly and for short period of time at the…

Does it apply to my level of exercise?
I try to jog a mile every day. Read several post that recommend taking one day break after exercise so the body can recover. Does it apply to my level of exercise?

Help and encouragement or unwanted advice and implied judgme
I recently asked whether you would initiate a conversation with somebody who was obese and could use some direction. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/301791-help-or-not-to-help Majority of you posted or messaged me “no” or “rather no”. When I read your posts I felt a little frustrated. I guess I anticipated that the…

Can you recommend an application for Evo 4G phones that using phone GPS would measure jogging distance from start point to the end point?

Help or not to help
How do you react when you talk to your co-worker or schoolmate, who is obese, and says that he wishes he could lose weight, but keeps eating junk food and has several other elements of unhealthy life style? Do you feel like sharing your weight loss related experience and knowledge? Do you attempt to get that person onboard…

“eat you calories back” related question
I have a question about “eat you calories back” theory/method/practice. I don’t practice this method. To help me understand your theory better, I need an answer to my question. The question is related to my morning routine. Let me briefly explain what I do in the mornings. First I jog three times around the block. When I…

While sitting in front of the computer and drinking red wine
I think the main objective of this website is (and should remain to be) to provide support, share experience of what really works, offer encouragement, and learn from each other. That’s what people who struggle with weight loss do, or should be doing, in addition to their individual efforts, if they want to be successful.…

Eat like me
I was recently complemented for being able to lose weight and not regaining it. The person asked how I did it. I started to explain, but he quickly interrupted and said: don’t give me the science BS, just tell me what you eat. Since weight loss (46 pounds last year and 13 pounds this year) and maintaining it is relatively…

Strength training at home?
I am trying to figure out if strength training can be done at home. Theoretically I can do many exercises with no equipment at home, but I am not sure if that will be enough to prevent muscle loss. If you believe it is possible, please advise what exercises I should do. Currently I do push-ups and leg squats only, plus…

Best motivator – fear
I don’t know if this is will motivate anybody, but I am going to write it anyway. In my case nothing motivated me until the moment, when the doctor informed me that there might me something in my heart and mentioned possible methods of treatment. He added that losing weight might make the procedure less likely. That…

Muscle loss concern
I lost 13 pounds since April, and would like to keep going, but the muscle loss got me concerned. When I started weight loss efforts a year ago I didn’t care about it. All I wanted to do was to start losing weight and when it started to happen I couldn’t be happier. Having lost 46 pounds quickly last year I settled for…

What do you do when you’re on vacation?
What do you do when you’re on vacation? I am on vacation in Florida and two conflicting thoughts are on my mind. First, I know that I am going to have to go home and get on the scale. Second is “what the heck I am on vacation” kind. Are you concerned with the possibilities of gaining weight, when you’re on vacation, or you…

What a wonderful feeling
My knee no longer hurts so I decided to do a little running. Got up early this morning and ran around the block. The last time I ran it was a year ago, before the knee injury. I was 46 pounds heavier then. I thought it would be difficult, because I am out of shape. Well, it was not that bad. I kept running and did not have…

You are great inspiration to me
It looks that I lost 11 pounds since 4-08-11, the day I joined this forum. After the first entry, I just entered 1 pound less a few times I visited the weight in section. I knew that I was losing more, because I weight myself daily, but I wanted to wait a little longer to see if I could go below my regular 5-6 pound weight…

Alcohol and weigh loss
How do you handle this issue? I like wine and would love to drink red wine regularly. However, I noticed that when I drink wine, I stop losing weight. First of all I need to eat “normal” foods when I want to drink, and that does not help my weight losing efforts. Then, alcohol itself is a lot of calories. Please share your…

Do you find it hard to get motivated on your own?
If you do, then read on. I learned that fear is the best motivator for losing weight. For many years I knew that extra weight was not good for my health but disregarded it. Never thought that “those things” would happen to me. Always was able to find justification why it was not a good time yet to do something about my…

First anniversary thoughts
I had always thought that losing weight was difficult, if not impossible, process. I had felt it myself when I unsuccessfully had tried to lose weight in the past. May 20 will be a year since I started my weight loss journey. On that day I became super motivated and I decided to do something about my weight. This time was…

Need motivation now
It is very hard for me to stick to the meal plan during holidays. Special meals and guests at the table make it very difficult for me to resist the temptation to eat food that I should not eat. Holidays and special situations like going out with visitors are the most challenging to me. They are as difficult as emotional…

Drinking enough water
Just read a fantastic post on water drinking by WIQQID. I know drinking water is important, but I have to admit that I struggle with tracking my water intake and making sure I am getting enough. What do you do to make sure that you drink enough water?
