What's the deal with BMR?
I've seen people on here say that eating below your BMR doesn't matter and I've seen others say that eating below BMR for extended periods of time can make you stall. I've seen both arguments from long term MFP-ers who seem to be incredibly knowledgeable which is kinda confusing. What are the arguments for both sides of…

Yoga toning
Hi all! I'm just beginning to get into yoga and read an article arguing that yoga could potentially be used in place of strength training for toning and strength development. Anybody have experience/insight on this?

Exercise Calories
I need help deciding how many calories to eat back. In the past, I ate back way too many and didn't lose (obviously). I've lost 37 pounds without exercising and now I've decided to start exercising more regularly, starting slowly with just things I enjoy--so walking and zumba. Today, for instance, I walked 2.5 miles at a…

Tracking
I'm interested in buying a fitness tracker and I'm not sure what I'm looking for. I'm afraid to eat back exercise calories because I've over estimated in the past and not lost weight. I'm looking for something reliable. If you have a HR monitor or a pedometer, tell me what you have and what you like/dislike about it.…

When did 10 pounds make a big difference?
You know how when you are obese, you can lose 10 pounds and not be able to tell at all? At what point did you lose 10 pounds and it make a significant difference?

20lbs can you see a difference?
Not sure if it's all in my head but I see a difference in my belly. Can you see it too?

Have there been times
Have there been specific weights you've had a hard time breaking through? Like, did you find it difficult to get out of the 180s for instance or the 200s or something? How long did it last and did you wait it out or do something different?

Timing Question
I'm 5'7 and I currently weigh 180. My end goal is 140 so 40 more pounds (I've lost around 35 already). Anyone go from 180 to 140? How long did it take you?

Calories for body comp
So I've been losing weight with myfitnesspal for a while now and losing steadily by eating at a deficit. I understand that, in terms of weight loss, the calorie deficit is what matters. Lately, I've been more curious about how food effects our body composition. Once I get to my goal weight, I don't want to be skinny fat.…

Antibiotics and weight
So I'm getting over pneumonia and a sinus infection. I lost 5 pounds in a week because I had no appetite. Doc put me on antibiotics and I've gained 4 of the 5 pounds I lost. My appetite is better than it was though I'm still not eating a lot. My stomach hurts a bunch though and my digestive tract has been filled with…

Can you see it?
When my husband first looked at these pictures he couldn't tell much of a difference. The first pic is around 230 pounds the second was taken tonight at 185. Goal is 140 so I'm halfway there! But can you tell?

If you are struggling to lose...
I just wanted to share my story for newbies in the hopes that it will encourage you and help you. A few years ago I went to the doctor and realized there that I weighed 216 pounds. I was mortified. I decided to buckle down and lose weight. I was put on a med for anxiety (paxil) and at first it killed my appetite. At my…

5'7 ladies
What is your frame size and what weight do you look and feel your best at? Since becoming an adult, I haven' t been in a healthy weight range so I'm not sure what goal weight I'm shooting for. I know I can always decide when I get there, but I'd like to do some research in the mean time! Are you a small, medium, or large…

Making Progress
I ran across a picture of myself at my biggest...then a more current picture and realized how different I have started to look. I still have quite a bit of weight to lose but I'm shocked at the progress. I'm not positive what I weighed at my biggest...this picture below is likely higher than the highest weight that I know…

Carbs
I've been doing my research and have come across differing opinions on whether you should worry more about Macros and cutting carbs or simply eat in a deficit. I'm wondering what you all's opinions on this topic may be. Some people have told me that because I'm an "endomorph" I will likely have great difficulty or may not…

Share Your Best Advice
Hey guys, those of you who have lost weight (in a healthy way), I thought it might be nice if you could share your words of wisdom with those of us just starting out. Need help logging exercise
Hi guys, I just spent an hour in the pool doing constant forward and back handsprings, and hand stands with a few other "acrobatic" type activities thrown in--in the pool. I'm trying to log this exercise but I have no idea what to call it or how to find out approximately how many calories I burned doing this. I can tell I…

Teeny Tiny Successes
This is going to sound stupid BUT I recently had a health screening at work and I was soooooo incredibly proud of myself. I had been previously discouraged because I've only lost 20-ish pounds and I have a lot more to lose. Then I went to this health screening and found out my blood pressure is greatly improved and is back…

Breaking a Plateau
I've heard many of you talk about breaking plateaus by increasing your calorie consumption for a set amount of time. So how does that work? If you come off your diet for a week to break a plateau, don't you gain weight during that period of time? I guess my question is what does your weight do as you increase your calories…

What the h....
I've been the same weight for well over a month now bouncing the same 2 pounds around. My TDEE is 2400 calories and I'm eating 1500 exercising a bunch and only eating back part of my exercise calories. I do not have a digital scale but plan on getting one as soon as I am able to. With a 900 calorie buffer I do not think…

Adopt me?
Anyone willing to take on a noobie to adopt? I'm really looking for someone who is scientifically based and knows nutrition and exercise well. A little about me: I'm 24 years old and been overweight my whole life. When I got married, I put on a lot of weight fast and have spent the last forever yo-yoing but never getting…
