Optavia/Medifast/TSFL
It is a MLM program. I know a health coach who sells the products/program. I am having trouble sticking with anything on my own. She said you lose 1% of your weight a week at first. I imagine it must be VLC. She did not approach me about it, I asked her. Has anyone done any of these programs. Do they work ? Is it worth it?…

Full disclosure: I am that person
The one that eats high cal/ low nutrient foods but in a deficit. I want to try things and if a frappacino (sp?) takes up my dinner calories, so be it. Not always, but some days. I am not misled about what cico means I may move towards more nutrient dense options, but I am breaking one habit at a time. I am also that one…

Netflix doc obesity post mortem
I just started watching this. It is interesting. I know some people say these shows are biased and just entertainment. I was wondering what others think of this one. I could not do that job, working with the bodies. I dont know that i am learning anything new, but seeing layers of fat and enlarged organs makes an…

Have a Nokia scale, now what?
My husband got a Nokia Body scale through our insurance. He signed up for a health program but did not follow through. I hooked it up and linked it to my ipad. I did not link it to myfitnesspal because I weigh myself everyday but update weekly. So, all it does is keep track of my daily weight and bmi. It has other features…

Is there a benefit to gluten or lactose free if you can digest them?
I saw a nurse practitioner for a sleep disorder. I have apnea, which has been controlled, but I an still tired. One thing she suggested was try going gluten and lactose free for a few weeks and see if this makes my energy levels increase. She is not a dietitian. Is this some kind of woo or is there something to it?

Non food rewards?

What is too aggressive weight loss? What happens when you go under 1200 calories?
More curious than anything. What happens if you lose too quickly or go under 1200? What problems develop?

What is the difference between a nutritionist and dietitian ?
I have seen a dietitian before. I hear people say nutritionist. I see posts that people saw one or are one. Is that the same thing? Do they have the same training? Does it depend on locale? I asked about a nutritionist once and I got a phone number for a children's hospital that deals with digestive problems.

Habitnu
Has anyone heard of this? It is an app/program provided by our insurance to help prevent diabetes. They give you a nokia scale and a fitbit. They have a calorie/carb counting app. But, the database is tiny. Not at all as easy to use as mfp.
-
Where do I begin?
I used the app for awhile before, and i lost some weight, but i stopped. I am back now and back to the weight i left (i had gained a few pounds back). I want to stick with it this time. So far, i am okay with the calories. I have 1270 before i get my exercise calories. I am pretty sedentary, but i walk my dog daily. I have…

can anyone recommend a scale that I can link?
My scale is still working and is accurate enough for me. It is digital and has a body fat feature (I don't know how accurate that is) I have seen scales that link to mfp. I don't know the names. Does anyone have one and do you like it? Sometimes, I step on the scale a lot. Would it keep giving different reports to my…

Are coaches/trainers worth the expense?
I don't know where to start I have not been in a gym in years. The most exercise i get is walking my dog. I have tried to lose weight and get more fit before, but i don't stick with it. There is a really nice YMCA here with all kinds of equipment and classes. I just dont know if i would go. I am good about keeping…

I went from obese to overweight. I have a long way to go, but i found that motivating.

Does timing matter?
I hear people say not to eat after a certain time of night or that nutrient timing is important. I am not an athlete of any kind. Does timing of eating/exercise have anything to do with weight loss? (I was not sure where to post)
-
Starting over (lorib642)
I am at the weight I was when I stopped mfp. Ready to start again. I know timing does not matter, just calories, but I am going to try to eat about 3 hours apart without snacking in between. I got fat, 100 calorie snack at a time. I am not set on the timing, more the only eating at meals/planned snack. Also, I am walking…

Is it worth it trying to get fitbit and mfp to synch at the moment?
I disconnected from both fitbit and mfp, then reconnected. It worked counting my steps. Today, I did the same thing and it worked, but now it is back to not counting my steps on mfp. Is there something i am missing!

How do you take metformin?
Initially I was prescribed 2X 500mg to take with dinner. This was upped to 3X 500mg and I still took it all with dinner. I just got a meter and had a recent blood test. My A1C was 5.9, which is typical but my fasting glucose was 130 (the meter has been reading in the 130s or higher in the am. My dr upped my metformin to 4X…

Muscle gain in deficit?
So as not to derail topic on main board. I have heard people say they aren't losing weight because they are gaining muscle and "muscle weighs more than fat". Can you gain muscle in a deficit? Would it be a noticeable amount? I thought it was hard to gain muscle, and a goal, while losing weight, was to try to retain it.
-
Bio impedance errors?
I have a scale that determines body fat through your feet. I don't know how accurate it is. It always tells me I am obese. Today the fat% is lower and is reading in the overweight range. But, my weight is higher than it had been last week (not a lot, it fluctuates). If I am more hydrated will the bf% read lower?
-
What will the result be?
I am starting back after about a year absence. Things are going well, and I am pretty much back to the weight I left at. Just some goals: I havre started walking at least 20 minutes/day. I am slowly adding veggies to my diet. I am pretty much giving up alcohol (personal reasons) I hear IIFYM but I am no where near that. I…

Maintaining muscle while losing weight?
What would be a good way for me to avoid losing much muscle while losing weight? I have been inactive. Now, I am walking about 20 minutes everyday. I don't belong to a gym. I could later but I would like to start with things I can do on my own. Something that I can start slowly and add more in time.

I love my mentor
If you are new and haven't seen it, look at the adopt a noob thread. I started last year, but stopped and recently came back to MFP. I signed up with a mentor and she is awesome. I feel accountable but also cheered on. My mentor encouraged me to walk every day for 20 minutes. I have been walking. It may not sound like much…

Clapping is exercise? (fitbit)
I have my fitbit set to vibrate after a certain number of steps. I went to a musical last night. When we were applauding at the end I felt it vibrate. It counted my claps as steps. It's not an issue or anything, I just thought it was funny/interesting

I won't melt
I want to go for a walk. I have been walking daily. It is raining. I have an umbrella. I just need some words of encouragement. Last night, I went to the mall and walked back and forth. That is another option.

What did I do? (Stomach cramps and more)
I got some free Quest bars and had one for breakfast. I had a protein shake at lunch. I am guessing it is the sweetener, but I am not feeling too well. Don't want to go too far from home.

Negative calorie adjustment (fitbit)
My fitbit has a feature that if it is turned on and synched with mfp subtracts from your calorie goal if you haven't burned enough calories, and adds when you have. I don't know if other people would even notice, they probably never go under, but it encourages me to get moving.
