Anyone doing any 5ks?
I need to find a 5k to get out and run just to get an official race day time for myself! (So I can run a second one and try to do better). Anyone got any suggestions?

Holy new years resolution batman!

I don't like chocolate that much anymore
So this is a kind of weird one, I have read about people taking magnesium supplements to deal with chocolate cravings but I have never been someone with very strong chocolate cravings in general so I figured I just liked chocolate normally. But since I started taking a multivitamin regularly (which by the way is not at all…

Week 7 - 8 - 9
the last 3 weeks are nearly the same - 3 /25 minute runs 3/28 minute runs, and 3/30 minute runs. Lets all hang here for the last three since we'll be in more or less the same place

Dear SWTOR

November and December goals!
Getting some more discussions going: Toss up your end of 2011 goals here. They don't have to be weight loss related or even fitness related. Life goals or something you'd like to accomplish before the end of the year.

Run a 5k in week 7?
I just found out about the Santa Monica Christmas 5k and its on Sat (But I can still register). What do you guys think about possibly running that? It would turn out to be my 3rd day of week 7 basically. I don't really see any downside, I might have to walk the last mile (fairly positive that I'm not running a 10 minute…

Is anyone signing up for/already signed up for a 5k race?
Anyone? When is it? what is it? what's your plan to be ready for it (besides finishing hte program) i want to sign up for one and the Temecula 5k on January 19th seems like my best bet in terms of something local-ish but my boyfriend refuses to even talk about it.

Oh God - STEAM Sales!
Steam is having tons of sales this weekend and I've been looking for games to play. I'm behind on EVERYTHING because wow kind of ate my life in terms of game play time for a while. Should I grab Mass Effect for 5 bucks? do I need to play 1 or should I skip straight to 2? FO: NV is 10 bucks. FO3 is 15. Dragon Age Origins…

calves on FIRE?
So I'm in week 4 and on that first 5 minute run my calves are like LIVING FLAME towards the end. the burn dissipates and I dont' tend to get it on the second 5 minute run (which I do run a LOT slower). There are hills along our route but they're not new to me or anything. Am I doing something wrong?

short (per session) flexibility increasing suggestions?
Can anyone recommend a reasonably short set of exercises/stretches to improve flexibility? This is for my boyfriend so 30+ minutes of yoga pilates aren't going to cut it (He won't want to do that) but 10-15 minutes of additional stretches are probably in the realm of possibility. He stretches before running and stuff but I…

Dance Central 2 + HRM = holy crap!?
Sooo tonight was the first time I played DC 2 with my HRM on - I played it on Hard although I actually don't think that makes a HUGE difference. Anywho - 1 hour of that (total time not song time like the game calculates, song time was about 40) was 444 calories according to my HRM. The game had me at like half that (I…

Yummy and filling vegan salad and vegetable dish for thanksg
We are having a vegan over for thanksgiving AND her son (not vegan) is allergic to nuts. We're not going to totally revamp our thanksgiving but we do want to have a couple dishes on offer that will be ok for them to eat. (does anyone know if sunflower seeds are ok for nut allergies? I would think so, totally different…

Infrared oven
My MiL bought us an infrared oven as a housewarming gift (sigh, because what my super limited counterspace needed was another big fat thing to sit on it) and since I'm stuck with it I figure we'd better use it at least once. Gimme a recipe. Doesn't need to be the lowest cal recipe in the world as we eat largish meals. I…

pre-workout energy?
So I realize the best thing to do is just get enough rest and enough food in general, but I haven't been sleeping well (I think.... anyway I'm tired) and I've got personal training today and I want to have a good workout -- and generally when I'm tired I don't get very good output from my body (makes sense). Given that I…

how many cups of beans/rice do you think fits in one of thos
so i got my wahoos to go today and the portions on the rice and beans look considerably smaller than on the plate. Maybe its just me? Does anyone know approximately how many cups fit into the "sides" containers of one of those big stryofoam containers? You know the kind that have a big section at the bottom and 2 smaller…

Vegans/Vegetarians who eat over 120 grams of protein per day
Vegans/Vegetarians who eat over 120 grams of protein per day - can I see your diaries? I'm so sick of eating meat. and I don't totally love chugging protein powder so if anyone has a system that's letting them avoid a ton of that, I want to see it

Shin Splints (Barefoot running but could be unrelated)
I just started running (spent about 5-6 weeks seriously walking then stepped it up by adding some periods of jogging and occasionally a sprint) and it varies by day but at some point I do end up with a shin splint on the right calf that is, although not excruciating for the most part, not something I want to run on, so I…

Heart rates?
So I went for a running/walking...thing yesterday. With way more running than I would normally do. And I was getting tired toward the end and thought "ok just run as far as you possibly can and then we'll walk home". I have a polar ft60 and at the end of that jag my HR was like 183 - it was outside the exercise zones that…

High protein meal recommendations?
I've been trying to increase my protein intake (trying to get at least around 100 grams per day) and it seems like my only options are to just ...EAT protein in the form of bars/shakes or eat big piles of lean meat. I find it very tedious to eat more than 5-6 ounces of lean meat. Any ideas? I'm not fat/carb conscious but I…

Kinect - Dance Central and Your Shape on sale at Target
Just stopped at target and they had both Dance Central and Your Shape Fitness Evolved for 25 bucks today! I assume most of us with the kinect had one or the other - I already had Dance Central so I picked up Your Shape.

Why are there so many protein powder options!?!
Good god there are like a million different things and some are for BEFORE working out and some are for right after and some are for DURING workouts. WHY? is it all just marketing? I've been eating higher protein because it really helps my overall physical recovery but I am siiiiick of eating high protein meals all day…

"circuit training"? Or what?
I've been working out with a trainer and the workouts vary but its something like .....5 minutes of walking then 5 minutes of walking lunges then a minute of jogging then walking -- then free weights for 10 minutes, then mat work for 10 minutes, ball work.... etc. Varies wildly from that but ...should I log it as circuit?…

Polar FT60
are the extra features on the polar FT60 worth it? I'm thinking specifically like the VO2 test and a few other things - I don't need the strength training.

Body composition and goal weight
So I had a personal training session (first one) on Sat and she used calipers to do measurements. I realize these are not PERFECTLY accurate (fluctuate a bit depending on who does it) but she came out with this: "Your approximate body composition is 30% that is about 56 lbs. of fat mass and 129 lbs lean mass. " My goal…

Quinoa with chickpeas, lime, cilantro, onion
Made this for lunch...dinner.....lunch......early dinner? I used the juice of one juicy lime, one quarter of a red onion sliced thin (I used a half and that was too much) and then cut into slightly smaller pieces, a can of garbanzo beans (drained), a small bunch of cilantro leaves chopped up very fine (probably came out to…

Hey Vegans, how do you get enough protein?
we're having a vegan weekend, and I notice that even with the almond milk, quinoa, and garbanzo beans, its very unlikely I will hit even 50 grams of protein today. How do you generally get enough?

Arm/Shoulder exercises, with 2 handweights?
Can anyone recommend some exercises (or hopefully a site with pictures) to use my 2 new 8 lb weights with? I've got the legs and full body stuff basically covered so I'm looking for more of the basics like curls. Just want pictures to make sure i'm doing it right.
