Not fitness related -- Anybody knit or crochet?
Hi, I'm looking for volunteers who knit or crochet and are interested in helping make simple chemo caps for men and women going through chemotherapy. You can work on your own time (obviously), make as many or as few caps as you like and in any style or colors you like. All caps will be donated to the Southside Cancer…

Eating back exercise calories burned
I'm taking a poll to see who eats back the exercise calories they've burned and, if so, has that helped in your weight loss.

Good carbs/bad carbs
Hi. I am on the last leg of my weight loss journey with only 10 lbs. to go. The problem is I'm addicted to carbs! I know I won't be able to lose these last 10 lbs. unless I really cut back on my carb intake. But I know there are good carbs and bad carbs. Can anyone explain which ones are "good" carbs? I think I pretty much…

Going low carb
I've finally come to the realization that I'm not going to drop these last 10 lbs. unless I cut out (or cut down considerably) on my carb intake. Problem is....I LOVE carbs. Carbs are what fill me up and make me feel satisfied. So, I'm going to give it my best shot starting tomorrow and go low, low carbs. I'm looking for…

Can anyone explain how to use a FitbitOne?
I just got a FitbitOne and am loving how it's tracking my steps, etc., but it seems to be giving me a real high number for number of calories burned. For example...I walked for about 40 minutes, did 1.50 miles walking the dog and it said I burned 630 calories!! That can't be right. Before Fitbit MFP would maybe give me 200…

Anyone planning an April challenge?
I would love to participate in an April challenge if anyone is planning something. I find that I'm much more productive (exercise-wise) when I'm doing a challenge. Thanks.

You won't believe what my doc told me!!
Went to see my endocrinologist last week and we were talking about my heart rate being high, which it has been for as long as I can remember, even when I was thin. Right now, my resting heart rate runs between 99 and 111. A few months ago, my primary care doc had put me on a medication to lower my heart rate, which, in…

Looking for post-menopausal women to add as friends
Hi, I've been a member since July and am having a very hard time losing weight, in part, I think, due to being post-menopausal and the fact that I also have diabetes. Don't get me wrong, I haven't been the perfect angel by any means, and the friends I have are totally and completely supportive, but they're not in the same…

How many calories did I really burn??
Okay, went for a 40 min. walk, rather brisk and I'm getting two very different readings from my HRM and my pedometer. First, let me say that I am usually on a med that slows my heart rate down 'cause it naturally runs fast (resting in the 90s) but am out of it right now and hope to get it filled tomorrow, so my heart rate…

Aerobic Burn vs. Fat Burn
Okay...I need a fitness expert for this one. I just purchased a HRM and have now learned that for all of the walking and workouts I've been doing, my heart rate has been burning at "fitness rate" rather than a "fat burning" rate. I need it to burn at a fat burning rate, I think, don't I, if my objective is to lose fat?…

Survey Says......
I know this subject has been discussed at length, but I'm taking a little survey and would just like to know whether or not you eat back your exercise calories AND what your average weight loss is per week (whether you do or don't eat them back). If you do eat them back, please say "yes, I do eat them back and my average…

really good cushioned sock or podiatrist?
I bought some Sketchers Shape-Ups for walking several months ago and didn't walk every day consistently and didn't have any problems with occasional use. But when I joined MFP (7/31) and walking every day I noticed that I was getting blisters on my feet (on the inside right behind my big toe where that big bone sticks out)…

Exercise calories
What's the general concensus about eating your exercise calories? I try not to eat mine because I have a really hard time losing weight because I'm older (56) and my metabolism is slow. I have, on occasion, eaten them though. I just started MFP the end of July and I didn't lose anything my first week, but lost 2.5 lbs.…

How much sodium
So, I'm just wondering. I'm not a salt user at all, but I don't necessarily limit foods because of sodium content. My scale showed a 2.5 lb. GAIN since my last weigh in (Sat) this morning and I've stayed under calories every day except one and have been exercising my tush off. And, 2.5 is exactly what I LOST last week! So,…

Pedometers
I bought a Sportline pedometer, which I thought was a pretty good one, to use when I walk the dog. Does anybody know how reliable pedometers really are? When I walk on my treadmill, (it's a gym-quality NordicTrack), I go by the stats the machine gives me, so I feel pretty confident about those numbers. But I'm never sure…

Newbie Here
Hi, Well, once again I'm facing the daunting task of losing the unwanted pounds and this time I have more to lose than ever before....50 lbs., so I am really anxious. Will I be able to do this? Will I have the will power and the strength to get through the tough days? All I can say is I hope so. A friend introduced me to…
