How much sodium

So, I'm just wondering. I'm not a salt user at all, but I don't necessarily limit foods because of sodium content. My scale showed a 2.5 lb. GAIN since my last weigh in (Sat) this morning and I've stayed under calories every day except one and have been exercising my tush off. And, 2.5 is exactly what I LOST last week! So, how much sodium is too much? What should a person aim for as far as sodium on a daily basis? Thanks.
