Happy Tuesday to all – it was 73 degrees at 4:30am and it is going to rain all day! We needed some.
Last 2 days can be summed up in the following 2 pics… Sunday was birthday time for my daughter (great time) and yesterday morning it was Chittenango Falls and then a nice afternoon lunch of Chicken Quesadilla and Spinach dip.
Anne - 35 degrees Centigrade!!!!! You likely could cook an egg on that concrete driveway!. We hit 93F ourselves. It was OK in the shade at the Chittenango Falls but hot as U know what in the sun. It was a little hard for us with the climbing in certain areas…but I told Jean what is hard now might be impossible in a few yrs – so we marched on.
Ditto on the pool … only the “posh” had a pool or “color” TV (when they first came out). It was actually fun walking to the public pool and stopping at the corner store for a popsicle. At least we swam in chlorinated water vs. your “murky waters of the creek.” LOL.
Jackie – You have drizzle / steam and we are having a bit heavier rain and lots of humidity. Jean goes to breakfast with the old retirees this morning so I pulled her car into the garage so she’ll at least arrive dry. Hope you had a good potting day. Jean has lost a couple plants to the animals, but handled the loss well. LOL. Of course, whenever I see the word “woodpecker” my mind goes to the cartoon – loved it as a kid. How wonderful to watch the mummy sparrow / babies. Nature is fantastic.
Again, I think I came out ahead on the swimming with a public pool vs. a “large fish pond.” We did do some lake swimming, but it was all pretty clean if I recall. Kids today are very lucky for sure. Thanks on the photo…as for sad times – I think we all have those. I know some people that let bad memories ruin the present even though decades have passed. For me it’s like the poem: "Though nothing can bring back the hour. Of splendour in the grass, of glory in the flower, We will grieve not, rather find. Strength in what remains behind…”
Sandy – Sounds like you had a busy day with the kids – playground, lunch and pool time… FUN! Been a long time since I saw Jurassic Park. I hear ya on the pounds…it seems if I am lax just a day or two… a couple magically appear. A casino trip sounds like fun. We don’t go often, but have a great time when we do as it always includes a nice lunch.
Lin – Glad to see you are keeping busy with plants, laundry, church, card creations etc. As for teeter-totter ummm not recently. My granddaughter laughed when I used the term as they always call it a see-saw.
Jackie – Thanks for the photos… they always give a “feel” for things no matter if it is the sun shining or sleeping dogs. Louis Armstrong is singing “What a Wonderful World” is an ABSOLUTE favorite. I also love – this version of “Somewhere over the Rainbow” sung by Israel "IZ" Kamakawiwoʻole

Side note from this morning: Jean said - “Do you know what I want for my birthday? I want a hedge trimmer…not one of those real expensive ones…just something like a $59.00 one.” I replied it was more than the $10.00 I had planned but would see what I could do. LOL.

Jill and I watched the gentle rain fall whilst in bed. Not that it cooled anything down. We are living in a sauna right now. The birds happily twittered despite the rain and the thirsty flowers look a little less tired.
I did consider trying out the egg frying on the drive BOB! However being a cheap skate decided to save it for inside cooking and breakfast!
PATSY, I love the lap top. No problems except for one small thing. The type is so small on MFP community I'm typing this on the old iPad. However all is not lost, Mike thinks he can fix this the next time he's over. But it's great for texting, checking out accounts etc, and I'm very glad I've got it because holding the iPad was creating hard skin between thumb and first finger, minor but I hate hard skin! And talking of thumbs remember way back in April when I fell and wondered if I'd broken it? It's finally better! So it was a sprain I guess like SANDY. Is yours better Sandy? Just a faint twinge for me now.
Oh golly, a new page so I can't read at this point what Jackie, Lin and Barbie are up to. Mind you I can guess with Jackie, lol.
Alls pretty quiet next door right now and I'm enjoying the lull, AND no sign of a mosquito yet! They had a relative stay overnight who I'm pretty sure was a relative look alike. Anyway she came in a truck and took off early this morning with I guess the better stuff. I think they will move out at the end of the month so the new people can take advantage of the long weekend coming up. I shall be very good and mind my own business as they move in.
I'm busy reading a very old Ruth Randall mystery, Adam and Eve and Pinch Me. Emptied the bookcases on Sunday and decided to try reading again some of my ancient who dunnits.
Anyway, unfortunately my life is nowhere near as exciting as you friends. BOB is right, do all you can before you get to my age. I rather miss my treks with Flo and all our misadventures.

Happy Tuesday! Got up early to drive Bryanna to school since her car is in for oil change and repairs. Have a dermatologist appointment this morning and sitting this afternoon. It will be a long day. The sun is shining but rain is expected later. No pool day but hopefully tomorrow.
Anne, if you knew how to get into the settings of your new laptop there should be a place that let's you change the font to whatever size you like. My hand is better but like you still get a twinge now and then.
Bob, love that version of Somewhere. I never saw the artist only heard his music, thank you for sharing. Pictures are great and your daughter looks very happy. The Falls are beautiful and yes do as much as you can while you can, enjoy life!!!
Lin, I tried to find the Sidewalk app on my Alexa app but mine must be too old as well. I can't afford to share my wifi with anyone as mine is wireless and sometimes runs slow.

Anne, if you see the App symbol for Settings on your screen when you switch on, it’s usually grey with a black mechanical wheel in it, click on it, find Display and Brightness on the left and you should see on the right, towards the bottom, Text size. You can then adjust to suit you.
Back later after a crazy day that began with nasty neighbour getting someone with a digger in to destroy a section of hedge between us. Seems to think the small fence I put up to stop their dog coming in was a sign of me moving the boundary!! Big row in which he shouted loudly to drown me out so when he finally stopped I applauded and congratulated him on not uttering one ‘F’ word in 2 sentences! A lot more went on but I won’t bore you. Dave, Joe and electrician Paul have been teasing me about it so I’ve calmed down but also made contact with a fencing company to install a 6’ solid fence with trellis on top rather than get into a legal battle that’s likely to go on for years!
I’m now going to cut my grass as it’s cooling off… the temperature that is. 😆

Howdy gang! We have a lovely day here. Sunny and a bit cool. I required a little jacket this morning. Katie and I are enjoying the deck, I see so much trimming and pruning that needs to be done, I actually squeezed my eyes shut at some point. The thought of all that needs to done is too much for one small brain to contemplate. I have now put that aside as we enjoyed our walk. Silly me,
This evening I hope we can take a ride and at least look at our favorite beach. It might be filled with vacationers, so Katie would make an unwelcome beach walker. She gets very anxious around strangers and other dogs. She likes Damon’s doggie but she is very old now and sleeps a lot. Miski does not challenge Katie on anything. Sigh....we have tried to socialize Katie from the very beginning. We keep trying. I read all the dog training books, I talk to our vet, and the dog trainer here. The advice is all the same. Keep trying, introduce her to different people in a controlled situation, etc. etc. in general, Katie is a very gentle but easily frightened doggie. She would have done better if we had one or more other dogs. But John and I don’t have the energy to care for several pets anymore.
Anne: so glad you are making friends with your new laptop. I have a Mac desk top in my dungeon and it is my work machine. I also love my iPad. I am not good at computers etc but I still love technology.
Bob: our municipal water comes from a gorgeous water fall and very deep pool. It is possible to hike around it, it is not covered or fenced. There is only a very ancient attendant to warn people about keeping clear of the pool and water fall. It is almost magical to go in any season. I also love that rendition of Over the Rainbow. I first became aware of it from that movie with Brad Pitt. I think it was called Joe Black. I can’t recall the name but the movie was a remake of the old movie called, “Death takes a holiday.”
Jackie: your neighbor has certifiably gone insane! There is little you can do but stay clear of him. Good idea to build a fence. Remember that saying about good fences make good neighbors. Then plant trees or bushes on your side of the fence to sound proof and remove him visually from your eyes. What a jerk!
Lin and Sandy...wow, I have no idea what interesting things you can do with Alexa etc. I am still in the Stone Age. I am lucky to be able to use my Mac and my iPad. They are both Stone Age old as well.

That's exactly how I came to erect a fence the same size with a trellis on top between me and Harry JACKIE. He asked me why I hadn't left the space between the houses without a fence, left it open. I didn't say it (I would today) "to keep your rubbish and logs strictly on your side idiot". As it was I was forever asking him to stop placing tree trunks shoved against it when it was new. Advice from me. Be sure you know the exact boundary lines before you cement the holding pillars. We contacted the council here to check, otherwise you could face a legal battle and the cost of removing the fence and cement even if it's only an inch out of line. Sorry to be a Jonah but forewarned is forearmed.

Good steaming hot afternoon! I went to pick up an order at a home improvement store relatively early this morning. It took quite a while for them to come to the car. I was sweating by then! I loaded the items into my vehicle while the lady who brought them out watched me. I moved my car from the pick up parking place and went to the garden center. It is pretty much outdoors but lots of it was in the sun. Couldn’t find what I was hunting for so back in the car and decided to go home. Unloaded all the boxes and went inside to cool off. I have gulped down lots of weak cold tea both before and after lunch.
I have materials lined up to get back to work on cards and yes, the air conditioner is in high mode again!
Jackie, I am sorry for the disagreement with your neighbor. An unpleasant person it seems, bringing in a digger without talking to you first. Good grief. People! I am sorry.
Sandy, on the run! I sent a couple of messages to you. You have probably seen them by now. We are in a hot and dry area, little chance of rain this week. Darn it. Thankfully we have water so I water my plants every evening. I am trying to save water but not doing well with all of this watering.
Bob, gorgeous photos as always. Happy days! Jean looks pretty cool in those shades! Hope your day is going well.
Patsy, yes, I guess we would like to have some cooler, drizzly weather here but alas, that is not to be. I hope your day is going well. I finally did finish my credit card related tasks yesterday. I sighed when the task was finally completed.

As I was saying. wow that was one huge overhead clap of thunder. I found out how to enlarge. However, much different to the iPad which was the same as Sandy and Jackies suggestion and I knew how to do. I will adapt eventually. Maybe.

Hello friends. Yes my neighbour is decidedly unstable so I’m glad you feel I’m going in the right direction fencing him out of my sight. I take on board what you say Anne about being careful where the posts are sunk although as far as I understand the boundary was in the middle of the poor, ripped up hedge. I could speak to a solicitor to insist that they put right the damage but trees sound good too Patsy and might just block the swearing and yelling that he insisted loudly was none of my business how he talks to his family!
Meanwhile I kept very busy creating a path at the bottom of my garden with chippings and yes, did get my grass cut.
Well done Anne for finding out how to adjust the size of type but isn’t it annoying when new versions come out where basic things have been changed!
No rain forecast here either Lin so my water butts will soon be empty. I popped to the allotment last night to water seeds and peas but left other plants for another day… perhaps tomorrow.
Patsy, as you know dear George was similarly unsocialised when I first adopted him 7 years ago. A dog Walker told me soon after that it had taken him 5 years to make headway with his similar breed dog and I remember thinking goodness, it’s going to be a long process. Even now he’s wary of strangers and some dogs and refuses to move if either or both walk up behind us so I know how difficult it must be for you to feel confident with Katie in a busy environment. Enjoy your evening drive and hopefully that beach will be deserted so she can run.
Interesting tea set I’ve seen before somewhere. Very smart!
Betty is snoring loudly as usual and George is stretched out so must be time for bed. 😴

Went to gym, took a bath – and still dragging a bit… don’t think I will be doing much today… this will be a short one. LOL.
Anne – Smart thinking on the egg. Might actually have a couple for dinner! You also remind me that I am way behind in reading anything but short articles. Time to pick up a book this weekend…pretty much read 99% non-fiction.
Sandy – Glad you liked that version of Somewhere… he was known as "The Voice of Hawaii" – sad he weighed almost 800 pounds and died in his 30’s.
Patsy – ahhh “Meet Joe Black” – I loved that movie (Jean only liked) and just watched it again last week. Love when Brad speaks Patois and when Anthony Hopkins gives his speech…. ”Sixty-five years…don’t they go by in a blink.”
Lin – I will pass along your compliment to Jean on her shades!

Low cloud and a bit more than drizzle but I walked George and Betty a couple of miles to the local quoit field and back before deciding to drive to the next town about 10 miles away to do my grocery shop. A change of scenery seemed a good idea! Paul the electrician has finally given me a light in the main room between stairs and kitchen and is also connecting sockets while Dave and Joe continue to build the airing cupboard loo. I’ve been shown all the pipes running above in the roof space and where the valves are to switch off in case of emergencies!
It’s definitely not gardening weather but I’m so pleased I got to cut the grass before this rain that wasn’t forecast. I’ve picked up my biography of Princess Louise, one of Victoria’s rebel children and sitting reading in my garden room with a cuppa and pooches since there’s still nowhere else for me to go.
I did ask this morning whether the work will be finished Friday and again the job has been extended into next week, possibly another two!! 😬😧. At the supermarket I was tempted to buy a bottle of wine but decided alcohol isn’t the answer; just have to drum up more patience! 😵💫
The G7 world leaders are heading to Cornwall along with the fog and demonstrators. A few helicopters buzzing about but otherwise quiet overhead!

Happy Wednesday! Back from driving Bryanna to school, hopefully her car will be done Friday. I will feel so much better knowing she will be driving a safe car until she can afford a new one once she has a full time job. It is hot and sticky but I will make it a pool day as I missed Monday and Tuesday. I got a clean bill of health from my dermatologist and a prescription for those brown spots we get as we age, I hate them. I go back in a year so that is done. Next month my yearly wellness exam and mammogram and will be happy when all doctor's appointments are done.
Bob, how sad Israel "IZ" Kamakawiwoʻole died so young, I did not know that. Google said in 1997 and he weighed close to 1000 pounds and died of heart failure. As you might remember my grandson and his Hawaiian wife live in Hawaii. They are probably too young to remember him but I am sure he is well remembered by all.
Jackie, I think I might have bought that wine, but good for you in drumming up more patience. You have hung on this long, another two weeks will be a breeze.(she says in good faith)
Hello to everyone else but my life is a little chaotic this week so hopefully things get back to normal soon. First with the lockdown never leaving the house and now it seems I am never home for long. Better to keep busy and moving at my age so I will try not to complain. (much)

I am reading “Max the Miracle Dog” by Kerry Irving. I need to go to the library tomorrow to return my books and pick up some more. The Max book is mine so I can read at my own pace.

Cool and partly cloudy Wednesday. We expected this and it will continue for a couple more days. Inside activities! Oh no! House work, cleaning! Oh well....
We are watching a series called the Affair. It is good, quite racy at times. John says we are grownup enough to see it. I think it is some sort of murder mystery but since we are just at the beginning, I really am not sure what is happening. Interesting and the acting is really excellent.
We are trying to save the sad camellia bush. Poor thing. She is covered in some black sooty fungus we are washing it off with dish detergent. I think we should cut it way back and I suggest washing with simple green but John is following suggestions by state extension agent. I am devoted to simple green. It doesn’t cause any damage to environment but it doesn’t clean really great either! Hummmmmm
Running a few errands this afternoon then back for dinner and I will be heming up my new jeans. I am so short and have very short legs. All my jeans have to be hemmed up. I think I am genetically related to those little guys in Lord of the rings...like Froado or something like that. Short legs—big feet!
Jackie: Good to keep track of alcohol consumption. A temptation I keep track of as well. There are times that something even stronger calls to me. After a phone call from our daughter, I yearn for a nice big snifter of brandy. She can turn me into a hopeless puddle of angst.
Bob: my exercise regimen is often done very half heartedly. Then there are days, I give it all I’ve got. I give myself a gold star for “just showing up!” You seem to give it all you’ve got on a regular basis. You get a gold star and more!
Sandy: I am also impressed with your yearly health tests. Does your doctor suggest all of those tests? My doctor follows the NIH suggestions for the aging. Not happy with the notion that tests are not necessary for us oldies. Is there a hidden message there? It pays to know......

My wellness doctor does a basic exam but mostly asks questions. I get a yearly mammogram as suggested for those over 40 but especially since my mother had breast cancer and forty years later had colon cancer. So I go for a colonoscopy every five years as requested by the doctor. I request blood work every year with my yearly exam. I went to the dermatologist because I had psoriasis on my scalp and he suggested a yearly body scan to be safe since I love the sun so much. I have the beginning stages of macular degeneration so I see my eye doctor every six months and I had bad gums which were fixed but see the dental hygienist 4 times a year. I have two knee replacements but no longer see that doctor and I had two back surgeries for a ruptured disc along with another surgery for sciatica which is why I think I shrank 2 1/2 inches. So far everything is good and I am healthy as far as I know so it is worth all the visits even though they are a pain. I started donating blood during the Pandemic and will continue to do so. More information than any of you wanted to know but there it is.

Afternoon all. Not much going on here. I spent the morning grocery ordering for Friday and then cleaned and vacuumed. Spent the afternoon finishing off the book holed up with the a/c going full blast and Bean snuggled up next to me. I hope this is the last day of this heatwave. Oh and I phoned the vet to get poor Jilly's claws cut on Friday the day Michael will be over to take us. They have grown very long and thick for such a small dog in a very short time. She hates getting her claws cut and to be honest it distresses me as well, but none of us can clip them because she struggles such a lot.
I think Dave, Joe and Paul must think of your place as a second home by now JACKIE. They are really going to miss you, George, Betty, Brady and the chicks. And you will feel strange as well with no men cluttering the homestead up!
"He who shall not be named" who presently lives next door is filling his truck ever so slowly with rolled up rugs etc. LIN. Slowly because it is ever so hot here. Meanwhile, down there in Australia my poor little cousin is freezing in 20C degrees. What's that? 72F I think. We both had a good moan about the weather yesterday! Moral to this tale, maybe those of us born in temperate zones should stay in temperate zones especially if we tend to have noses that can either peel in summer or go red in winter, gingery frizzy hair, and watery blue peepers.
I avoid doctors like the plague and follow the guidance of a lady of one hundred who when asked her secret to longevity replied "keep away from doctors". I am impressed by you SANDY and say go for it girl. I think my unimpressive attitude is yet another leftover from childhood war years when doctors were few and far between and who could afford them anyway before the NHS. I only saw a dentist once in those years, a travelling school dentist who gave me a penny for being a brave girl when he yanked out a baby tooth at the tender age of five. I wasn't impressed but it was nice being done early because my surname initial is B and I could sit back nursing my penny and watch the other little victims brought back to class bawling. My dad reckoned the baby tooth was hanging loose anyway, but I wouldn't let him earlier put a string round it, the other end tied to a door knob. He then was going to slam the door shut (he said) and save the dentist the trouble.
Memories are made of this, lol.

Sandy: I apologize for sounding nosy. I have been so dissatisfied with my medical care, I wondered if it was the thing we were to do....ask for tests or were they part of the annual physicals? Our DR. Is a friend and maybe he just feels we should know or ask for medical tests etc. well! We a both feeling okay fir the most part.

Happy Thursday! Another hot and beautiful day but I have my in person meeting today so will not get to the pool. I am going for a mani/pedi after meeting. Our casino trip is Tuesday-Thursday and although I probably shouldn't go I am looking forward to being with adults. Tomorrow I am meeting with a friend for lunch and Saturday sitting all day as Lisa gets her hair done. When she is done we will celebrate their 8th wedding anniversary with dinner and movie night but indoors this time. They leave the following Saturday for Florida so will go there Friday after my little trip. Will also be helping Bryanna take care of Ewok for the two weeks Rob will be gone. Busy, busy, busy. I am going to take Sunday for myself and just relax by the pool with friends.
Patsy, please, no apologizes necessary, I was just letting you know how many doctors I have to see each year. Getting old is not for sissies. I especially love when the doctors say no worries, it comes from getting older with some of my complaints. lol Happy to be alive and continue to fight for many more years.
Anne, I think because medicine and doctors improve every year I trust them. I remember my mother told me she came from a family of 13 children but most of them died from childhood diseases such as measles and such.
Her mother had two coffins in the living room at a time. Four of them made it to adulthood but now they are all gone. People I know with cancer have made full recoveries. I think whatever you are comfortable with is what you should do, except for those who refuse to get vaccinated, they upset me. Sorry.
I don't know why I am so preachy lately, please forgive me. As I told Lisa there is so much going on this month and feeling a little stressed about time and money. So please don't be offended by anything I write it is nothing personal and I am just venting once again. Have a great day.

You are NOT preachy at all SANDY! We all have our different ways of living life and I'm definitely in the minority. I am vaccinated but just the once until next month. I guess a lot of our way of doing things is the cards we are dealt with when born and the experience we have with various doctors. I'm thinking of the way my blood vessels burst after taking the pills for ten days and my mangled wrist because the doctor just pulled it back into position with no surgery and pins. It set very quickly and 25% out of shape. I was sent to a specialist who said "you don't appear to be a vain woman and if I was you I'd leave well alone otherwise if its reset you could have arthritis in it when old". He was right there, I don't have arthritis but it can be a nuisance - it being my right hand, when I try to draw and paint.
I think you are marvellous with your energy and enthusiastic approach to life so please stay just as you are and maybe I will eventually join you. My present doctor. a New Zealander, is very nice and I trust him as much as anyone! I used to give blood by the way but I stopped once I reached 55. I was told the age limit is 65. I guess that changed?
Harry continues to pile decent stuff in his truck now, maybe its my imagination but he doesn't look at all happy to me.
I am slowly getting used to this new laptop. and wondering what to name her. Do you all name your devices or am I even more of a weird old duck than I thought. Suggestions please!
