Happy Friday!😄 Another beautiful day in Florida. Chilling and playing with Dexter by the pool is my afternoon and then taking my grandson and his girl out for dinner. My weight is holding but not getting too much exercise. The pool is a little chilly to swim in, but good for laying on a float. I did take Dexter for a walk yesterday but I don’t think he can walk 2 or 3 miles with his little legs. I guess I could try the 30 day shred off of YouTube or some other form of exercise. Will let you know.😜

Lin, It is a little boring being at the pool by myself but at least I have Dexter to play with. 🐶

Hi to everyone, I hope I am not missing posts. Have a beautiful day!

Hello everyone! Partly cloudy and very chilly. What on earth is going on? Feels like winter. We had a freeze warning!

Lost my post yesterday….user error! I forgot to hit that post reply button. I am really under the weather today. I had a very serious allergic reaction to eating a small bunch of dark red grapes as a dessert last night. I will not go into the hysterics but not being able to breathe is very upsetting. No more grapes or red wine…ever again. Feeling very tired and still have a bit of labored breathing. Calling doc as we speak. Later…keep me in your good thoughts.

Hello friends. I am wondering if MFP is working properly for me? Well, if I missed a tone’s post today, sorry.

Patsy, I am horrified to hear of your experience with the grapes. ☹️ What did your doctor have to say about the experience? Do you have EpiPens with you at all times? I wish I did have one or two of those and it would be good for you perhaps to have an emergency treatment on hand. Not preaching, just concerned my friend.

Sandy, enjoy dinner out with your grandson and girlfriend. You may be wearing Dexter out with walks, and swimming. He will miss you when you go home!

Our temperatures are coming down a bit and once again, the storms stayed north of us. I am happy for that.

I spent a good portion of the morning on the phone with a friend. She doesn’t usually call, so I enjoyed the call as we will likely not talk again for a while. After a bit of lunch, I decided to cancel my trial membership to the food coop. I have sent an email to them. I placed a small grocery order and stepped up my periodic coffee order to next week. Their subscription prices are going up again. I am considering changing to a larger order which gives a larger discount. We will see.

I hope to plant a few veggies tomorrow as we have nicer weather in the forecast now. 😄

    I hope everyone is safe.

The gorgeous weather continues here. My new straw hat is getting a good workout and will soon be an old straw hat.

We had Michael over for a good part of yesterday. He says he's going to shoot himself if he becomes like me as I've become in the last two years, or since I had the vaccination and everything that accompanied it. This quite shocked me because I thought I was improving. I'm still deaf in one ear from the shingles but hey!

Maries life is improving because poor Tony is now sleeping a lot rather than roaming all over the place or jumping on bikes to ride to his old home.

Anyway whilst Mike was here we picked up flea and tick medicine. [for Jilly, not me!} This is because Darren across from us found a tick on his youngest daughter who'd been to a park that day. We keep the grass cut short but better safe than sorry.
However, me and Mike are still scratching from the eczema which keeps flaring up again just when one thinks one is over it.

One thing about summer life gets more interesting as neighbours emerge from the winter hibernation. [along with ticks, fleas, ants, wasps and mosquitos.]
Sorry to read you've been so ill PATSY. I didn't know red grapes can cause an allergic reaction. I had a handful this morning. LINs advice about an Epipen is good!

My indoor tomatoes are growing at an alarming rate inside the house. I'm debating whether to plant them outside earlier than suggested. MJ calls my front window the "magic" window because everything in the plant world loves it so much.

Off for a shower and to face another warm day,
    Anne.

Who stole my post this time? Nothing untoward typed so hopefully nothing more than a blip, or too boring! It was a day of shopping, walking and catching up with Brian who lost his wife last year. He appears brighter, probably because he can get into his garden to grow vegetables with the help of his DIL.
I planted out my climbing French beans and increased the size of pots for tomato plants. That was it so you didn’t miss much!

Today is mild with sunshine and showers. Although I walked early, there were lots of visitors so we didn’t stay long. When I returned to the car I found a group of people parked so close I struggled to get doors open. My good morning greeting was ignored which told me they were what we call “townies”! 🙄
I’m sipping coffee and contemplating weeding flower beds near my cottage. Not much to do but it’s good to try to keep on top of them, especially since I’ve seen clouds of seeds floating about… the sneezy sort!

Patsy sweetheart, what on earth happened to you? I’m so sorry you suffered such a scary reaction and struggled to breath. I can think of nothing worse and do hope the doctor had helpful, practical advice for you. ❤️ Now, if I’ve got it right, Damon will be with you this weekend and that has to be uplifting.
Too cold here too and not at all May time temperatures. Brian told me yesterday a friend thinks the increase in wind turbines is to blame, blowing air in the wrong direction. I did my best not to smile although a National forecaster on my radio is talking of a hot day, if not the hottest this year but he can’t be talking about Cornwall because I just pushed a door closed to stop a draughty breeze around my feet. Perhaps Brian’s friend is right! 🤪

Sandy, how was your meal out last night? It’s your chill time so you mustn’t worry about your weight. Dexter sounds like great company but I know even George begins to flag after walking a couple of miles, especially when it’s warm. I thought I was so good this past week but barely lost a pound so I’m going to have to resort to a fasting day, something I said I would do weeks ago!

Exciting day Lin, if you are going to plant out your veggies too. This morning I’ve checked for pigeon and squirrel damage to my climbers but all good so far. Perhaps they are too small to be noticed!

Everyone else has gone quiet, or perhaps posts went astray with mine! Coffee finished so I will join the cheerful Song Thrush outside!
    Happy Saturday.
    Jackie 🥰

Happy Saturday! 😄 A beautiful day for sitting in the sun. Later a family zoom call and then dinner and games at my niece’s. We had a good time at dinner and Zack’s girlfriend is very nice.

Jackie, I agree and will weigh in when I get home. Dexter gets plenty of exercise jumping and swimming in pool, he is exhausted when we come in the house. He is so lovable though I will miss him when I leave.

Anne, see you are tougher than your son. You pulled through and now are full of vim and vigar. Enjoy your garden and the fresh air. We gave Daisy flea and tick medicine 12 months a year as our Vet suggested. She never had a tick but if you remember my DIL did when we walked in the woods. It didn’t bite her but was caught in her hair. It is kind of nice that Harry is sleeping more for Marie’s sake but kind of sad for Harry.

Lin, prices are all going up no matter what the product, I hope you find a good deal in larger qualities. I will miss Dexter and told my daughter I might steal him and she said she would fight me to the death.😂😂🤣🤣

Patsy, I do pray you are better today and have recovered from that reaction. What did the doctor say? It must have been so frightening. I am so sorry.

Well, I better get out in that sunshine. Have a terrific day.

Ive had to stagger IN from the sun SANDY. The weather is glorious but too hot at noon. I've even had to put the tomato youngsters in the shade. I've got them outside getting them used to the outdoors but hauling them in at night which is still below 50 F and too cool. However great for sleeping!

We spent part of the morning with me weeding and the Bean defending me from passing dogs. I started cutting back what you might call a rubbish bush but I've have had to come in to cool off. Gradually the garden is looking ship shape after 2 years of neglect. Horrible two years because gardening is one of my delights in life.

Has Damon arrived PATSY? and are you back to your normal Patsy after the frightening breathlessness? Hope so.

LIN, I so agree with JACKIE. A very pretty tea
set which one could happily use daily.

Well I'm almost recovered, so back outside for another bush battle. Gosh, 2 posts from me in one day. You can tell I'm on the mend when I'm rarin' to go, lol. Anne.

Hello sweet friends! Cloudy as us Hal but Damon is here as my substitute sunshine. There is nothing like seeing our children to cheer us on.

Damon went into hyperdrive along with John to get me an allergerypen. But no dice! I will have to go see a specialist and through the big allergy testing. Different allergens are tested on my skin to check for reaction. I guess it makes sense but out of the question for us right now. So I have an inhaler and now more pills! And I will avoid grapes and red wine. Damon is running around with John doing all tasks that Damon does not want John to attempt. He is a love! Actually both of them are a real blessing.

Lin: as you know, Allergy episodes are not fun and there are a variety of symptoms, none are fun and some can be life threatening. Swelling of tongue and throat as well as labored breathing.most notably. Our doc says The crazy thing is that as we age, an allergy can just “spring up!” Food allergies are quite common, I guess. I know you are very cautious about possible allergies. Have you ever had one of those extensive allergy tests?

Anne: I really think you are amazingly strong. Your gardening is an important prescription that cures most ills. I know you agree that our pups are also life affirming creatures. I would be devastated without our wild and demanding Katie. Our garden on the other hand is a complete disaster. I think hiring a large herd of goats might be the answer.

Sandy: pack up that adorable little black doggie and bring him home. You need him! Oh my! What a handsome little guy and such a great swimmer. Your trip sounds wonderful to me. Some visits with family, dinners out, fun in the sun and time with a winsome little creature. Perfect!

Jackie: we have a dog park in our area. Our vet has been instrumental in donations for a strong secure fence. The park is divided into two areas in case a dog might feel threatened by other animals. But……many fleas and a few ticks. Dogs must be vaccinated against kennel cough and rabies and should be nurtured. There is a very nice attendant. Flea an tick medicine is strongly suggested by the attendant. There are things in the park to challenge dogs and opportunities for play. The funny thing is that our vet says the most trouble is caused by human beings.🤬

Hello. I am incredibly tired. So just a quick note before putting my feet up. I have made a start on my deck container garden. I was working outside when the guy showed up to mow my lawn and do the trimming. I am quite allergic to grass so the day went downhill from that point on. One eye is quite swollen. But it is okay, no need to try to plant everything in a day. More another day.

Patsy, yes, I have had allergies since I was about 12 years old and have gone to many different doctors and allergists over the years. I have had scratch tests up and down the arms, little injections on the arms, same thing on the back, and blood tests for food allergies as I moved from doctor to doctor. I have had allergy injections through three different doctors, all with different ideas on what to inject, how much to inject, the schedule for the injections. My upper arms have been total pin cushions as one doctor had me on 3 times a week injections for years. Each leaving me feeling ill. I have had pills, eye drops that stung horribly, courses of cortisone, etc., etc.

I have found foods and other ingredients such as coloring, sweeteners and the like have become bigger problems as I have gotten older and after my diagnosis with celiac sprue and had to give up lots of things. I have found most of my problems on my own. No one has given me an EpiPen although MSG, some food colors, and other odds and ends have given me mouth swelling which is a fright!

A friend of mine got EpiPens from her doctor when she was diagnosed with asthma. No other testing needed!

Anne, I came close to planting a tomato plant or two but next week will be fine. My potatoes have popped though the potting soil but the pots weren’t filled to the brim so I added some more soil and watered them. I planted my onion sets today (finally), my little celery plants which are supposed to be cutting celery rather than letting it develop for months. I kind of like the idea of using it bit by bit. Also planted 3 types of lettuce plants, my parsley, chives and peppermint. Also tossed some green bean seed into a pot. The package was open from last year but if they do not grow well, I will add some seed from another currently unopened packet.

Jackie, I watched Dan’s video and I love that little farm they are staying at. In particular, what lovely blue doors (I would take some of those). I had no idea he was teaching so much. That is good. Did you see the photo of lovely table he posted on Instagram? And the chicken? Looking forward to another video of the farm tomorrow. Back to local news, It was around 88 degrees F and bright sunshine here today. Tomorrow night though the over night temperatures will be in the 50’s so I am not certain if that is too much shock for tomato plants. Do you have everything planted in your garden now?

Sandy, glad you enjoyed dinner with the grandson and girl friend. Nice that you were able to spend some time with them. You really do have a family of tall people. Thanks for the photos.

Take care everyone. Time for old one eye to move along.

I was up at 6 this morning to watch the sun rise, and because the rest of the world was sleeping I went out into the back garden in my Marks and Spencer pyjamas with the stars printed all over them to inspect my handiwork of yesterday. Unbelievably, although I crept to bed last night somewhat resembling a crab because I was so stiff I've woken up not bad at all. Just getting rid of the bush which was taller than me has made the garden look twice as big and revealed tulips that were struggling to breathe. It was one of those bushes which grow wider and wider with new twigs appearing around it yearly. Just have to get Mark to bring over his big cutting pruners to get rid of the old much thicker stumps. Everything thats come up in the veg plot was sitting up, the broccoli etc. so I came back in for my morning cuppa feeling somewhat pleased with myself.
Just read your allergy history LIN, and you poor girl! I can relate if only a little after the Pfizer vaccinations. They had me so miserable I will never be vaccinated again, not at my age. I can only imagine what you are going through and have BEEN through! I guess, and here I'm somewhat ignorant, I believe you live in farming country which can't help. Apparently, my great aunt Jane emigrated and bought a farm in Ontario with her husband. She only lasted five years before scuttling back to Yorkshire recovering from severe allergies. There they bought a village pub and lived happily ever after. When she died, the family discovered she had lent a lot of money to local farmers, but on her death they no longer had to repay her family. I wish I had met her, my great aunt Jane.
Gosh don't I whittle on. I do hope LIN you have a more comfortable day today. Your garden sounds wonderful. You are a true farmers daughter!
I bet JACKIE is already in her veg plot, or having lunch at 12.
    Have a good day everyone.

Hi Anne, no, I don’t live in an agricultural setting now. I live in a suburb of Iowa’s capital city. It is near a walking trail but otherwise city life. Here’s a photo of my house from a few years ago. All that has changed is the landscaping has grown up and I had a generator installed along the side of the house.

    965z3epyhkow.jpeg

The backyard is fenced in (at least as much of it as the city allows) and that’s where my deck and containers are hiding).

MY type of house LIN. I love it, and apart from the garage and of course age, reminds me a little of this old house. Oak tree to my side and of course the apple tree in front. I will be able to imagine you now at home typing your posts and card making. Thank you for sharing.

Happy Sunday! 😃 I had a wonderful time with my nieces and nephew and another couple I just met. We played Mexican dominoes and laughed a lot. Zack drove and picked me up. They leave to go home Tuesday so I was happy to spend a day with them. I will be heading to the pool soon, late start this morning.
    5o17tzeyj5pn.jpeg

Lin, pretty house, do you have an upstairs or is it a ranch? Wow, you have been through a lot with testing and allergies, I am sorry.
I think it is the men who are tall in my family although my daughter is tall. As you can see my nieces aren’t tall but their brother is.

Anne, how is your back handling all this digging? I take Dexter out in my pajamas in the morning. He has a doggy door but wants someone to be with him in the morning and at bedtime. He is a funny guy.

Patsy, yeah, I don’t think my daughter would like that idea, she adores Dexter. I am glad you are feeling better, Damon must be good medicine for you. This is a very nice trip with no pressure, just doing whatever I feel like

Hello Jackie you must be out and about.

Hello Sneakers. Sunshine, showers and thunderstorm threats today so I walked George and Betty locally and kept kept to the road. Even as storm clouds drifted towards us and away again we remained dry and had an enjoyable, gentle stroll. When I got home I checked the hens had everything they needed and that veggies hadn’t been eaten by slugs overnight at which point my friend Pat called, so after I gave myself time to make coffee I called back and we then went through our list of holiday cottages in Northumberland, having some laughs along the way! We have found one we like the look of, central to most places of interest so have paid a deposit. Now I just have to find a friendly business to take care of the pooches while I’m away.
This afternoon I spent an hour weeding the flower beds across the end of my garden, just in time because it began to rain around 3 o’clock and the bone dry area I’ve uncovered will be grateful for it getting through and giving everything a drink.

Lin, that’s a crazy teapot and I love it! I haven’t had a chance to catch up with Dan and family but will do so later this evening. I was worried for Pumpkin being back in their car for what could be a 6 week trip, what with hot weather and the stress of constant change but hopefully she won’t slip away when they aren’t looking!
I’ve planted 2 tomato plants outside and the rest will stay in my sheltered greenhouse so a bit of an experiment in our climate! I’ve peas, Pak Choi and will set Mange tout seeds in a few weeks. Then there are lots of sweet peppers to pot on.

That’s an attractive home you live in, almost a church design but I see why you need the services of a lawn man!

Time for feet up with a choc ice so I wish everyone a relaxed Sunday.

Good afternoon. Off and on rain today. Now we have sunshine and it is much chillier today. I watched online church this morning and more of the service was included today. Yippee!

This afternoon I wanted to try to finish the 2 graduation cards I had worked on but oh my, I could not find the very small envelopes I need in order to include some cash in each. So, I hunted and hunted, certain that I have one small gold envelope and one small silver. They are hiding quite well indeed! I did find a small packet of bright red envelopes I had purchased to include gift cards or cash in Valentines. They won’t work so I started to look for some envelopes to order. Nope, the packets had too many envelopes so were costly. I found a die to cut my own and it is ordered. Yippee!

That took most of the afternoon. 😁

Sandy, my house is 2 stories. I was attracted to it as feeling spacious due to the Cathedral ceiling in the living room and the open staircase and hallway upstairs. There is a full basement and the attached 2 car garage. I think it was one of the still popular styles when these houses were put up—circa 1990.

Okay ladies, I do NOT go outdoors in my nightwear. The neighbors are too close! If I outside to sit on my deck and have coffee, at least 4 neighbors have a site line to my deck. Eeeck!

Jackie, glad you found a vacation rental. You really did your research. Are you going in August? Wish I had a choc ice!

Anne, are the little plants I’m your garden still happy?

    Take care everyone.

    Hugs all round.

:) Jake goes for his angiogram this morning. The hospital is about an hour's drive away. My morning walking friend will drive him to the hospital because she is more comfortable with driving than I am. He won't be back until tomorrow. It is uncertain how long the procedure will last or if they will have to place stents so he will either stay overnight in the hospital or in a nearby hotel and our friend will pick him up in the morning. I am powerless over the procedure or the medical personnel so there's not point in my worrying about it. Instead I am thinking about having the house to myself for more than 24 hours.

:) Over the last two years, both of my walking friends have been exposed to someone with Covid although neither has gotten it, and in each case they voluntarily distanced themselves from us as a precaution. I am grateful that I enjoy walking with the company of a podcast or audio book so walking alone isn't a problem.

:) My sleep clothes are too skimpy for wearing outdoors but my dog walking clothes are laid out in the bathroom so I can put them on when I get up to go outside. The first thing I do is walk the dogs then worry about my own breakfast.

Hope everything goes well for Jake BARBIE. I bet you will worry though.

We are forecast for rain for most of the day, but the parched earth really needs it. When Mark and Mary Jo were digging a trench down the side of the house looking for leaks or cracks in the basement wall they unearthed a load of rocks and stones because this was once a river bed eons ago. Instead of leaving them down the side when they replaced the soil, for some reason Mary Jo carted the lot and dumped them under the bush I've now removed and amongst the ivy. Sort of dangerous because I was scared of breaking my ankle as I did a few years back on a rock. Anyway, out I went at 7:30 this morning before the rain started and collected the lot to be dumped behind the garage and back fence. Out of sight out of mind. I was just putting the bucket away when down came the much needed rain. Its still raining.

Yesterday I noticed the parsnips are just coming through. Can't wait to find out if anything else is showing!

JACKIE, when my friend Roys friends went frequently to the Lake District for long hiking weekends, Charlie, a Katie look alike. always went with them and apparently had a glorious time. Watch out for them, you never know! Helen and Sean and Charlie.''

Or am I wrong and its Northumberland you are visiting, the home of the Percy's? Alnwick Castle. My mil was convinced she had a connection there albeit on the wrong side of the blanket. Lol.
Their history is interesting and anyone liking history will find them in Wikipedia of course.

Busy but uninteresting day although the sun is trying to peep through.

Good evening everyone. I paused the morning walk while rain off the Atlantic cleared away and then decided a local walk would suffice but unfortunately a lot of other dog walkers did the same and George decided to be grumpy! Finally, when I saw the man who lets his German Shepherd pull him along, I decided enough was enough and turned back home. The super blood moon was missed because clouds hid the spectacle but would I have got up at 4.30 am to see it? Probably not!
This afternoon the sun cut through the clouds and I spent a couple of hours clearing weeds from the wild area at the bottom of my garden.
    9hsch1eyjuy7.jpeg

I’ve enjoyed salad for an evening meal which included my fresh young Black Russian kale that had a delightful peppery flavour, along with chives, thyme and apple mint.

Not much else to report except my friend Pat continues to suffer cold symptoms and although she takes daily Covid tests because she works 2 days a week in a store, she apparently upsets customers who think she might infect them. I did ask the question and apparently her GP practice administered her 2nd booster in spite of knowing she had recently had Covid. I was going to take out travel insurance through the agents that dealt with the holiday let but noticed nothing to do with the pandemic is covered so won’t bother. Pat has extra travel cover on her home insurance so that will be enough should anything at the holiday property get damaged.

Barbie, I wish Jake a quick, uneventful procedure today. A neighbour had similar recently after suffering a heart attack and was amazed how relaxed the medical staff were as they talked him through what was being done so of course that immediately put him at ease.

Lin, Mid September we head for Northumberland so kids will be back to school after their summer break which should mean places we wish to visit wont be busy. Lots of Roman history as we won’t be far from Hadrian’s wall then there are castles and a National park as well as Puffins on the Farne Islands.

Oh-oh, there’s Anne sneaking in ahead of me again!

Yes Anne, Northumberland. We did have a fabulous break in the Lake District about 10 years ago when we used our bus passes to get about on daily trips! I’m contemplating taking George with us if I can find a friend to take Betty for the week. She hates car travel so probably wouldn’t make it beyond Plymouth!

    Moving rocks… you’ll get told off!! 🙃
