My favourite too ANNE that unfortunately isn't so easy to find in shops as so many imports pushed them off the shelves and orchards in Kent disappeared. Hopefully once we're out of Europe and have to think more about where our food comes from and grow what we want I won't have to hunt so hard. Perhaps I should buy my own tree.

Up early again as builders back to grout then out for our morning stroll.... I'm knackered!!

Buzz, Kite Hill is an almond yogurt. They have an unsweetened variety that would be lovely and just right for adding blueberries.

Anne, orange pippin trees are available from a number of nurseries and I found one place that say they have limited supplies of Pippins for sale in season.

    Apples For sale:

Darn, links are unavailable but the companies are Stark Bros. And Burpees.

Wow! Here I am rattling around the house in the middle of the night and I was shocked to see that some of you are up and raring to go! My plan is to have a cup of hot milk and three crackers and try for more sleep. I am not going to be worth much if I don’t.

The wonderful Apple that we love here in PNW is the Fuji Apple. Great to cook with, and wonderful sliced and nibble with cheese or a dab of almond or peanut butter. It generally isn’t a pretty Apple. Kind of mottled green with some red. Washington state says they grow the best apples but Oregon can grow some very admirable apples. We seem to grow hybrids but they are really nice.

My milk is hot so I will sip in hopes for more shuteye. Sweet dreams, dear sneakers.

LIN, thank you for the info. I don't think Coxs are hardy enough for Canada, could be wrong, but I'll check further. Actually I was thinking more of growing one in the UK. They used to look so pretty at Christmas as a table decoration nestled amongst the real holly and Ivy.
We have Fujis here PATSY but they pale in taste next to Cox's Orange Pippins. I buy Fujis or Gala in Canada.
Back to the drawing board, or rather my oatmeal!
Hugs to all from a very cold Ontario,
    Anne.

Anne, I didn’t check the zone so probably improbable to grow BUT that orchard in Ontario sells the apples when available. Put in an order now for next harvest!

Anne, the Sunset apple, the first in the alternatives towards bottom of that website page is one I'd never heard of but sounds interesting and says easier to grow. My greengage didn't fruit at all last year in spite of so much blossom so I could replace with apple! See, now you've got me thinking it's Spring already!!

Yes, I was thinking of your old greengage needing replacing JACKIE. My old tree has to come down this spring as well. It's almost just a stump now and only good for hanging the bird feeder on.
I'll toddle off and check out your Sunset Apple. I will need something hardy in this climate. It's minus -10 Centigrade right now or 14 Fahrenheit. Looks gorgeous out with dazzling sun and a blue sky.
Spring isn't far behind, even if winter IS unkind.

Happy Friday! :) Taking a me day and staying home. I feel as if I have been so busy since the holidays and can finally get back to normal. I did change into some sweat clothes in case I have to accept a delivery I am expecting, otherwise I might have stayed in my nightgown all day. One delivery has already been delivered but he left it at front door. The other is a foam mattress topper so that might be heavy so I hope the delivery person will carry it up the stairs for me. My DIL complained her mattress was lumpy even though I had a different kind of topper so I ordered a new foam one like I have on the bottom of the trundle bed. They were fine since my son traded places with her and then she was happy. Next time they come they will both be happy. ( I hope)
BTW, did I tell you that I used my new George Foreman inside/outside grill for steaks and hamburgers and I love it. It is fairly easy to clean ( a little bulky for the kitchen sink) but the food was delicious.

Anne, you are a poet and I am sure you know it!! The good thing about living in this condo is that I don't have to worry about outside landscaping.

Jackie, I love the picture of George and Betty. Now that I think about it, you should have named her Gracie lol. Is Betty losing any weight?

Patsy, I do hope you managed to go back to sleep, nothing worse than being tired.

Lin, I will have to check out those yogurts for low carbs. I really must get back on the wagon and lose some weight.

Buzz, I am still fighting the cold but it is minor. I am one of those mind over matter type people although I did take Emerge- C. I will take another today since it seems to help.

Have a great day everyone! (Still praying for good news from Jeri) and sending love to Marie.

Approaching midnight, but tonight gave me the opportunity to really digest previous posts from most of you! I'm often forced by time to simply skim!
I'm so embarrassed by our non-functioning government, and a pouting childish head (orange!!!) of state! "If you don't give me my way, vulnerable people will pay!" And now, he NEVER MEANT Mexico would make out a check for the WALL! How does he make up these lies so glibly? I just heard this President described as The Titanic, slowly but surely moving toward the Iceberg, and we all know what happened there!
I'm struggling with the last couple of pounds added over the holidays, though it seems to be losing an ounce a day!!! I just love this "cold" spell.....

Jill is patiently waiting at the back door. Her favourite, in her mind, dog walker will be coming soon. I'm not sure how she knows this, no clues put out by me. Mike didn't come over yesterday because he chose to work Friday rather than Saturday. This way he occasionally gets a nice long weekend just like everyone else. Hope he's got his ear muffs on, we have a frost bite warning. Not that he will walk shorty pants far!

I Like the Titanic comment BUZZ.! I can't believe that the government employees are stoically accepting no pay. Says a lot for them actually, anywhere else in the world all hell would have broken out by now.

Well I better go and put the war paint on in the form of chapped lips reducing lipstick.
Hope today is good for everyone with no signs of flu or sciatica, or colds, or worse,
    Anne.

Good morning. It also says something about the way we live. One missed paycheck and it is a crisis and you cannot feed your family? What would happen if they lost their job and couldn’t find a new one quickly? Rely on unemployment? Our personal financial position is as fragile as our deficit spending government. We have several school systems in the area where misuse of funds has been discovered. My tax dollars allocated to educate children and pay their teachers ends up paying for wildly expensive desk chairs, expensive trips and hotels? Really? And these folks just resign and expect a payout? We need more timely audits.

    Okay, rant over.

I am washing clothes, tossing out a few things, working on cards and maybe a bit of cooking. We have a snow day today. Not lots of accumulation but they said the roads are slippery and expected to stay that way until tomorrow afternoon.

Happy day little Jill. And Anne!

Buzz, try to stay calm. I become a high blood pressured maniac if I let it get to me. Our health is very important. We must look after ourselves.

Hi Marie, Sandy, Jackie and Jeri.

    Hugs.

After a late night reading I had a lie in this morning which meant a late walk and although drizzle but mild at home, as soon as I parked on the moors I could hear the wind howling! Certainly I wouldn't be walking if I didn't have George and Betty so thank goodness for them even if I do wonder what on earth I'm doing out in freezing rain! Stopped at the farm shop on the way home for a few items but oh-oh, the cakes made by "Sarah" have returned after a long absence due to her ill health so as I said to the girl at the counter, there goes my waistline!! Forgot to weigh myself yesterday and again today so will try to do so on Monday.
I've been washing the newly tiled garden room floor with soapy water in an effort to get the last of the cement stains off then I can move furniture back in and be able to move around my little cottage again without knocking into things.

Buzz, we all knew what you were in for with a bully who deploys hissy fits in an effort to get his own way and hasn't an iota of empathy for those whose lives he's disrupting because he thinks most are Democrats but the incessant lies are astounding. Just get yourself on to the lifeboat before the Titanic hits that iceberg!!

Lin, our numbers of homeless are rising in a worrying way and most for the same reasons you talk of.... no contingency plan if one pay cheque doesn't come in. I used to think there but for the grace of God but really, I could never live such a precarious life because even my calm head would be spinning day and night.

Anne, it seems Jilly has the same ESP as George who barks hours before any expected visitor arrives because he just knows!!

I can hear Betty chewing on a toggle attached to the jacket that's hung over the back of my chair so had better move on before she swallows something she shouldn't! To answer SANDY's question, I haven't weighed her since our last vet visit but am measuring her daily meals so can but hope. She doesn't feel any lighter when I lift her into my car that's for sure!

    Happy Saturday everyone.
    Jackie

PS Ooops, the toggle is flattened!!

Happy Saturday!! :) I thought I was waking to a snow storm but there isn't even a flurry. That is okay since I want to go to 5:00 Mass. I rode my bike yesterday and hope to do the same today. March will be here before we know it and it would be great to lose these unwanted pounds.

Jackie, as long as Betty is healthy that is all that matters unless she wants to join MFP.

Lin, I am not disagreeing with you as far as planning ahead, but why do these government people have to suffer because of this bully? They will get back pay but if you have kids in college and medical bills to pay, losing a month's pay is going to be hurtful. At least there are some decent companies working with them and not charging interest for late payments.

Anne, it does amaze me how dogs know where or what is going on. When I picked up Babe and Daisy as soon as we turned into my area she started barking as she knew where we were going. Babe also said any time my car pulled into their driveway she knew it was me. I wish our radar was that good. lol

Buzz, like Lin I tend to stay away from the news, it is just too upsetting. Everytime I see him I think I am watching the Apprentice since he was a bully on that show as well.

    Have a good day.

Wonderful news Marie although it can't have been easy to make the decision to move into assisted living.
I think you will both be happy once you've settled in. <3
    GO COWBOYS!! :D

Sandy, you may well find Betty registered on MFP soon because the dear pup is constantly scrounging and scavenging for food no doubt because she had to compete at the puppy farm. I've split her food into 3 smaller meals a day because she Hoover's up her kibble in seconds then hiccups and burps! I'm hoping over time she will realise her mealtime routine won't change and stop thinking it could be her last.

Lin, I was disappointed in the first Grantchester episode last night in fact picked up my book to read at the same time. I hope you won't be disappointed.

My fire is glowing and I've enjoyed a couple of locally produced sausages with steamed veggies so time to curl up with a book.

MARIE Congratulations on a quick sale. Now you can put your feet up with that worry behind you.
    GO COWBOYS !!!!!

I also feed Jilly 3 times a day JACKIE. This is because she thinks she is human and should eat at the same time I do. Mike and I had lamb today and Madam had some mixed in with her chicken. Lamb is very expensive over here so hence her getting a mixture. She goes CRAZY for lamb. You should hear the whimpering when it's being served!

Mikes returned home, time for me to put my feet up and The Bean is collapsed on the sofa after the lamb and rough housing with her "dog walker", poor old much pestered Michael.

Good morning sneakers. Sounds to me like things are perking along there in sneakertown. We have partly cloudy skies and the temps aren’t that bad really. I confess to being extremely upset and anxious about our government. It feels like we are at a rapidly boiling point. Something will boil over at any moment. So John and I are trying to employ the ostrich head in the sand approach. There is no escaping the shutdown here however. The coast guard, national parks, camp grounds etc are part of our community environment. The fisheries and logging operations are also impacted. Huh? It is true, we are connected to our federal government in all ways.

Veggie soup is my “go to” low calorie meal. John likes it too but must add more protein or he doesn’t feel satisfied. It must be a guy thing! It is great to just open the frig and start throwing everything into a soup pot.

Katie is such such a dizzy goof, she barks at some invisible thing for hours. There seems to be no rhyme or reason for her to bark endlessly for an hour. I get a headache and start barking with her!

The dungeon is cleared enough for me to start my projects again. Some writing, some mending, some work on an ongoing painting project, listening to a cd of old rock and roll to get things up and running. John has already opened the dungeon door to stare meaningfully at my CD player...read...turn that down a notch or two, please. Don’t you agree that there is some music that must be listened to at a high volume? John disagrees with me.

All it takes for me to be happy is to dive headlong into my projects. I love to share my efforts with others and it is also wonderful to join with like minded people on a creative endeavor.

PATSY, with all the insane news from the FBI coming out, I'm thinking you must be taking happy pills to not even mention it, lol! The word traitor comes to mind, but we shall see! He has unraveled just about every decent relationship this country had in the world and seems to have allowed Putin to call the shots, plus just about destroyed the Republican Party, and I used to think he just didn't understand his role! Now I believe it is malevolence! Deliberate! O my word!!! No wonder I can't sleep!
Saw an award winning movie today, A Separation, made in Iran. Very slow moving, and very disturbing about relationships and the role of women in Iran! I always like the discussion groups following our Saturday movies, and this was pretty lively.
Our dinner soup tonight had a curry base and was loaded with garbanzo beans and a tomato base. Different and delicious, and full of protein! I really love the soups here.
MARIE, lots of luck on your very wise decision. It's a very difficult one to make, but I've never regretted our decision to move to a Continuing Care facility! Moving is very traumatic, so make sure you get plenty of help! I figure recovery can take a full 6 months
JACKIE, oh wise one, of course I've been reading between your lines and know you've been warning me! Let us hope some wise heads will figure out how we clime out of this mess!
SANDY, I am hoping you side step that cold and stay well!
Dear LIN and JERI, you re not forgotten! o:) but my computer is causing many problems tonight! o:)

Happy Sunday. I had another shock to the system this morning when I left my sunny and warm garden to head for the moors only to discover a freezing strong wind and rain. Never mind, I was wrapped up and tucked Betty into her jacket while George was as hardy as ever! I've been doing some housework and having just finished my lunch will continue to clean and tidy.

Marie, sorry love, I've just seen on our news your Cowboys lost their game.

Buzz, I watched that Iranian movie last year and like you thought their suffocating culture disturbing. Always good to watch such films for an insight but it also certainly left me grateful for having been born in the West. I gather a Saudi man will now have to inform his wife if he divorces her. Talk about dragging themselves out of the 18th century!! As for your orange man, I sense he's digging himself a big hole and could fall in any time!

Time to move on. Hello to everyone.

Hello, I am staying home today. I felt not so great last night and didn’t sleep well and binge watched some TV and of course slept late this morning. I am doing some more laundry, actually brewed some hot tea this morning instead of dunking a tea bag in a mug (ahhhhh), doing a bit of paperwork and then will address some cards to mail tomorrow.

Hoping everyone has a lovely day. Hugs.

Happy Sunday! :) The snow came yesterday so I did not go to 5:00 mass. The roads weren't plowed and I heard very slippery so I decided to go this morning instead. I have a couple of errands to run and then a video call with my kids. Tomorrow a dentist cleaning.

Lin, feel better my friend and get some rest today.

Jackie, I give you lots of credit for walking in freezing rain with the dogs. I know they appreciate you even if sometimes they don't show it.

Buzz, the cold is going away, I think I nipped in the bud with Emergen-C in the beginning.

Good morning to everyone else but time is short this morning.

Hello everyone! Freeze your buns off weather here. In the end Jilly conned Michael into taking her for three short walks yesterday culminating in him galloping home with shorty pants tucked inside his parka! At the moment it's snowing which probably means it's warmed up a smidgen. Could have fooled me wrapped up in my new heavy sweater!

I'm just cooking Jill's chicken and then I'm going to make my hearty "chunky veggie and kidney bean soup". I use the liquid cooking her chicken as a base or broth for my soup. Waste not want not sort of thing.

Agree, I see the Titanic man sailing towards disaster any day now. All the hard working, decent, and ordinary Republicans should dessert the sinking ship methinks and let the good guys eventually preside in his stead. Have you noticed the offspring are very quiet these days? But what do I know, we have our own skirmishes up here only not quite so noticeable! Meanwhile any immigrants to our frozen north will probably flee back to the sand dunes come spring! Canadas natural defence, frostbite! Who needs a wall up here! I think Titanic Man knows his role all too well unfortunately BUZZ.

Hope you haven't picked up the dreaded flu bug LIN. Fingers crossed for you.
Are you warmed up now JACKIE?
    Did SANDYs cold get worse?
Is JERI holed up against the Arctic blast as well?
Is MARIE packing for the next adventure?
Is PATSY still listening to The Beach Boys?
We sound a bit like "Soap" if anyone remembers!

PS. You are faster posting than me SANDY. Glad the colds a bit better.

I thought modern technology was supposed to speed up our lives! I seem to have spent too much time registering my washing machine purchase with Bosch for its warranty, switching my energy supplier and checking information that's come in from my new broadband supplier. Oh yes, and dear Betty seems to have reverted to day one peeing wherever she wishes.... AARGH!! She's now snoring at my feet as I sit at my desk checking Amazon for a couple of purchases.

Lin, I'm pleased you are being sensible and staying home. I find getting engrossed and binging on too much viewing leaves me tossing and turning in bed.

Sandy, standing in a freezing blast this morning chatting to a man and his dog he mentioned America getting some bad weather so perhaps he meant you! We then mentioned Austria and other parts of Europe that are blanketed in deep, deep snow when he made me laugh by saying serves Europe right, the sooner we get away the better! We might find out this week but I have my doubts.... the procrastinating will continue.

Anne, yes thanks warmed up but in need of the fire being lit before it gets any later. A bean casserole should have been cooked by me this afternoon but I didn't get round to it. A plan for tomorrow.

Betty's snoring has stopped and she's up and stretching which tells me it's time for everyone's supper.

Maybe Betty got cold in her tum out on the moors this morning, hence the peeing. I find the coats cover these little dogs backs, but their less hairy tummies aren't covered. Anne.

Sunny day day here. I can’t believe it. We have several days in a row of pleasant weather. I am feeling kind of lazy and in a “so what” kind of mood. I have worried, written emails, signed petitions , donated money, gone to town hall meetings and political rallies, supported candidates and voiced my concerns. As a grey haired senior citizen with a buggered up knee, my energy is limited and my patience is gone. Throw the dirty blighter out! Now!

There is an actor, can’t remember his name, who is now painting political protest paintings.jim Carry I think. The paintings have a political message and are violent in nature. I always remember the art left from various cultures. It mirrors the culture of that era. The energy and imagery of protest art is staggering. Anyway, just wondered if you had come across any of these paintings. Not something to hang over the couch to match your throw pillows! But interesting!

Sunday Baroque, salmon quiche, and a phone chat with our kids...perfect day with sunshine. I am counting my blessings. I love all of you sneakers. Great ladies who support one another as Needed!

Anne, because Betty had a shaven tummy after being spayed she shivered when I first took her out so I looked for a suitable coat. This one is ideal as it has a tummy flap and is easy to slip on and off as it goes together with Velcro.

She loves it and seems to smile as she trots about!

The slightest change in routine or positioning of furniture throws her and there's been plenty of that recently with the builders tiling the garden room but we had a little chat this evening and soon after she used the puppy pad so hopefully it was just a hiccup or two!

    Keep warm!
