Laundry is about done, just a few things left in the dryer to refresh and hang/fold this morning.
I know a lot of people make their own bread crumbs, using day old (or older) bread at home and pulverizing the bread in a food processor.
As it happens, I buy panko crumbs. I never heard of bread being stomped on to make crumbs, and while I'm sure that the process does something to sterilize them while making them, that would certainly be a big turn off to see someone walking on them. On the other hand, grapes used to be stomped by hand...er, rather by foot?...to make wine, didn't they? And no one was bothered at all by that, apparently.
At any rate, I understand that Panko crumbs were never actually sold as bread to begin with. I'll have to see what more I can find out about that.
OK, it seems that authentic Japanese Panko is made using crustless bread that is cooked via electrocution, hence not any crust, per se. It's immediately processed into crumbs and is never sold as bread. Some American Panko, from what I've gleaned, is made from whole loaves of bread that include crusts, but "white" Panko is made from crustless bread, or bread that has had the crust removed. Again, from what I've gathered, both are bread made just for the Panko and never sold as bread.
And even if wine was still made by foot stomped grapes, I believe I'd still drink it. LOL.
43 was our high for Tuesday
I may not have been clear, the truck driver was walking on the bread to put more of it in the truck, not to turn it into crumbs.
Interesting about Panko, I know that it is used by many Chef's as a better breading. I did not know it was made from crustless bread. I wonder how that method of cooking works, I wonder if that is something like the Hot Dog cooker that used to be sold where the dogs were impaled on short spikes and then line voltage was run through them to heat them.
Have a Good Day

I thought I'd posted. Several things around here today got started, and left undone to do something else...oh well
Its Tuesday, so Jack called...that was fun. He was full of stories about the outdoor rink, which Jack made for Nate,,as of yesterday was 'over'. But oh man, did they all have fun over the weekend! Couple of his buddies came and they skated for hours.
Today was my baby brother's birthday...kids 61. Wow! I was weeks from being 14 when he was born. Time has flown!
Having for dinner a big salad, followed by Mashed Potatoes and boiled cabbage and gravy. Yum! The Irish knew what was good when they made Colcannon!
Tom E. has been outside a lot today. Sunny, and 50's..he was a happy cat.
I need to go clean the kitchen. Hasn't been attended to all day...so its a mess. Hope to get out tomorrow and pick up a couple things and call it a day.
Oh, did I mention I have enough mashed potatoes to make potato patties, and I love boiled cabbage, so that could end up being 'itself' or I may think of a new dish to make with them.
OH, again...on the news tonite they were talking(reporting) on another owl attack. What's with these birds???
No more 'Oh's"....just a Later...
Hi Valerie
That is similar to the spread between myself and my Sister
I like Boiled Cabbage too...
I wonder if the Owls are hungry and that is what is leading them to be aggressive ?

Howdy y'all. It's wonderful Wednesday! 53 out there now with an expected high of 59 and 20% chance of precipitation.
I did finish the laundry yesterday and got to the store. Didn't get EVERYTHING, as I stopped at Kroger on the way home from a routine doctor visit, and hadn't yet had lunch. Came home and got lunch for J and for me.
I can get what's left at Aldi and Walgreens without going far at all, and if necessary there is always the nearby Publix as well.
Dinner last night was garlic cheese toast and lasagna, with Château Élan Muscadry Rosé. Very nice. This was the third bottle of the Christmas case I bought from them, that didn't actually get delivered until after Christmas. I had previously purchased a bottle of the Blanc, but this case was my introduction to the Rouge and the Rosé. Both are excellent.
I bought the individual serving sizes of Stouffers lasagna, so J had the 5 Cheese lasagna and I had the Italian (with meat) lasagna. We really love their vegetable Alfredo lasagna, but once in a while we want the red sauced version(s) just for a change of pace when having lasagna. Of course we don't have lasagna all that often anyway.
Doctor said I'd lost 3 more pounds. If he said it, then it's official.
Not that I couldn't stand to lose more, and it WOULD have been more, if not for the holidays. At least I managed to get through them without blimping out.

I have a checkerboard cake pan. It's older, with metal ring dividers, and if done right it makes a lovely cake. I would not make a Gatorade cake...mine was yellow cake and chocolate usually, and I was perhaps a bit more careful with the rings and produced a more consistent checkerboard shape, but the pans DO work nicely.

Howdy y'all. It's thrilling Thursday! 50 out there now with an expected high of 60 and 60% chance of precipitation along with that high temperature of 60.
I had thought I might pop out for cat food and a few other sundries but might not if it's all rainy and blech out there.
Might run the dishwasher today, but it may be able to wait until after lunch or possibly even tonight after dinner, depending on what Eduardo or I decide dinner will be. There is a large can of German bean soup in there that I bought at Aldi a while back that looks pretty good and it may be the majority of dinner, along with, perhaps, some potato dish to fill out, as the soup doesn't look like it would be quite enough, by itself, to be dinner for two large men.
Thought I was going to beat Roger this morning but I see he just posted. LOL.

As chicken and dumplings, in a can, go, I recall rather liking the Sweet Sue brand. The dumplings are very much like the ones my mother made, and that I make, and the taste is all right. As with any of these type canned items, it could use a bit more chicken and you may be sure that when I make it from scratch, it HAS quite a bit more chicken. Still, Sweet Sue will do, for me, in a pinch. I do add additional seasoning, including some rosemary, salt, and pepper. Can't honestly recall how I felt about Dinty Moore, though I'm pretty sure I tried that one. I'm usually OK with Dinty Moore products though. Sweet Sue was just my mom's go to for camping trips, so I was used to it and it was familiar.
After watching this one, I may have to go and give the Dinty Moore another try.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vjY57V3Mt54

I didn't expect the solar highway to last long. Disappointed that the expectations came true though.
I really felt there was a definite slant on the article about gluten free foods. They didn't actually say that gluten free, per se, increased risk of cardio-vascular issues, but rather that avoidance of beneficial, higher fiber whole grains might result in lower fiber intake, which could result in that increased risk. Well, there are lots of gluten free items that contain plenty of fiber, so unless they have conclusively tested whether the particular fiber in whole grains, specifically, reduces the risk, then that's just a supposition. The article strongly implies that gluten free automatically means less fiber. Gluten free, in and of itself, does NOT imply less fiber in the diet, though it certainly means less fiber from certain grains. More fiber can certainly be consumed in other items to make up for this.
I realize that Android phone batteries can also overheat. Still, the repairman getting burned is a bit scary, though at least I'm sure he's thankful that the battery didn't explode on him!
An old friend from my high school suffers from MS and could possibly benefit from the lab grown muscle cells, though I doubt they'll be in common use soon enough to benefit current patients much.

The large can of German bean soup (vegan) from Aldi turned out to be just enough to make a very nice lunch for both of us. J added some Asian chili crush to spice his bowl up and I added some crumbled bacon (from my large bag of it) and sriracha to mine, and had a few crackers to go with it.
It was one of the "near the door" items when I bought it so I don't hold out high hopes of there being any more of it the next time I go to Aldi, which will probably be tomorrow. I had never seen it before. We found it tasty enough for an occasional meal, so if there IS any more, I'll buy another can or three to put back for future lunches.
Eduardo has set some corn tortillas out to thaw. There also seems to be a can of refried beans and a can of HOT store brand Ro-tel knock off on the counter. I suspect some kind of layered dish involving all the above and some cheese may turn out to be dinner tonight, but sometimes Eduardo has sudden, last minute ideas and things go in a completely different direction.

Hi
I'm back from walking this Morning. The temperature this morning was 44 on the porch and 45 on the cable news channel.
I did some more running around yesterday. I stopped at the Post office and mailed off a payment that used my last stamp and then I bought a book of stamps. Next stop was the barber shop and as it was Noon I ended up with some Thai food, Chicken Pad Thai which is less starchy than Chicken See Yew. The scale was not bad this morning

Howdy y'all. It's fabulous Friday! 60 out there now with an expected high of 61 and 100% chance of rain. Low tonight expected to be 27, so Old Man Winter is coming back to visit.
We ended up eating Indian food at a restaurant last night. I had forgotten that J thought he had tickets for a movie but when we got to the theater he noticed that the special feature was scheduled for next week, the 18th, so instead of dinner and a movie at the movie theater (Studio Grill, bar type food, but at least a table or counter to sit at while eating) we went across the street to one of our favorite Indian restaurants and had dinner. Then we stopped at Kroger as I had never gotten out to the store yesterday. I STILL didn't get everything because I forgot to put macaroni on the list. *KITTEN*
Not that I'm going to curl up and die from lack of macaroni, but still.
I could get out to Aldi today to get macaroni but with 100% chance of rain, we'll see. Supposedly we'll be out tomorrow anyway for orchid judging photography, and I need to stop at Walgreens for my zinc supplement at some point too.
Sink is clear, and I've had bacon, scrambled eggs with cheese and MORE crumbled bacon, and buttered sourdough toast, since they had a bakery loaf of nice sourdough on the "Oops, we overbaked" rack at Kroger, fairly thin sliced. As expected, the toaster oven made beautiful, crisp, slightly chewy, sourdough toast, one of my favorite types of bread to toast.
Lilo and Dinah approved of the bacon and the cheese.

Hi Ed
I would hope that the Gluten Free products manufacturers do use other fiber in the foods. OTOH I suspect that anything that raises the cost of the item will be scrutinized on a cost benefit ratio.parityanimal wrote: »The large can of German bean soup (vegan) from Aldi turned out to be just enough to make a very nice lunch for both of us. Interesting, To me that is a strike against Aldi that something may or may not be there if You decide You like it.
A Question for You, I know You mentioned using the CostCo Pre cooked Bacon. I have found that it is Meh at best. I find that I prefer the ShopRite House brand or the more expensive Oscar Mayer, I will use the rest of the CostCo bacon but I doubt I will be buying it again.

I think Seattle needs to just give that idea up quickly. All it will accomplish is to drive consumers out of the city to purchase their sugary drinks elsewhere. And while buying their sugary drinks elsewhere, they'll also buy the rest of their groceries elsewhere and Seattle grocery businesses will be all OVER the city government to quickly dispose of that ridiculous tax.

I'm going to look at Kroger's frozen foods and see if I can find frozen leeks. Would make a decent soup with my potato...
