Kiara is safely tucked away in the hall bathroom now, with her own litter box, some toys, canned food, kibble, and water, along with a one story "kitty condo" and a large cat bed. She likes the kitty condo. We hung a scratching pad/post from the linen closet door knob for her in there, with a bell to make it more fun to use. Needless to say, we already had all of this stuff around as we've been raising cats and kittens for many years.
The only new items we got for them are a couple of automatic food bowls that will only open for the right cat, as they can be programmed to sense the microchip in the cat's neck and won't open for the wrong cat. This will prevent Lilo (at 14 1/2 years old) from eating Kiara's kitten food and also keep Kiara (at 5 1/2 months old) from eating Lilo's adult, special food to help maintain and promote kidney health and function. She hasn't had any kidney problems, but when our oldest (and first) cat did, we switched all the adult cats to that food on the veterinarian's advice, and he said he fed that to all his adult cats that were at least 2 years old.
Right now Lilo hisses or growls at Kiara and she hisses or growls right back at. We are letting them have short moments of highly supervised interaction, usually with J holding Kiara while Lilo is free to move about. Perhaps tomorrow we can shut Lilo up for a short time in the master bedroom and let Kiara explore more of the house, but it will be probably a week or so that Kiara needs to rest up and let her surgical incision heal, so she'll live in the bathroom for that week. At least it has a lot more room than that small cage at the shelter!
Here's J and Kiara at the vet, waiting for the doctor to come and give her a check-up. The check-up went well and it seems all systems are GO.

J, so happy you've finally gotten your new kitty, and that she's a-ok! She's cute! And looks to be a pretty calm kitten.
Wishing all 3 of you a very happy 2 cat household!0 -
Kiara, being a kitten, has made a bit of a mess of the hall bathroom playing with her toys and knocking her water bowl around, but when J goes in there she usually wants to be held for a while before doing anything else.
After a bit of wary sniffing, licking, and sampling, she has eaten some of her canned food and some of her kibble, so I guess she has decided that the Science Diet Kitten food I bought for her is acceptable even if it doesn't look or smell like whatever they were feeding her for the last three weeks at the shelter. I expect it is more along the lines of what she SHOULD be eating as I'm pretty sure they feed all the cats and kittens a food that is supposedly suitable for all cats and kittens but really not quite...
Lilo seems to have accepted her new, automatic opening food bowl fairly well but I haven't got the lid actually moving much as yet. She is willing to eat food out of it and tomorrow when I refill it I will be having the lid partially close. Then close a bit more, almost all the way, and then finally close and open all the way.
Meanwhile here are some funny pictures of rabbits addicted to technology.

Manufacturing Hate for 'Made in America'
Michelle Malkin
Posted: Jul 19, 2017 12:01 AM
It's "Made In America" week in Washington, D.C. You'd think this would be cause for bipartisan celebration. Who could be against highlighting the ingenuity, self-reliance and success of our nation's homegrown entrepreneurs and manufacturers?
Enter Bill Kristol.
The entrenched Beltway pundit ridiculed a festive kickoff event on Monday at the White House, where President Donald Trump hosted companies from all 50 states to showcased their American-made products.
"Maybe it's just me," killjoy Kristol tweeted, "but I find something off-putting about turning the White House into an exhibition hall for American tchotchkes." (That's the Yiddish word for useless trinkets).
"Tchotchkes"?
Tell that to the engineers at Hytrol, the Arkansas-based conveyor manufacturer that brought a mechanical display of its technology to the State Dining Room. Hytrol's late founder, Tom Loberg, started out as a gopher at an electronics parts factory during the Great Depression, worked his way up to designing Navy turbines, hydraulic pumps and cylinders, and entered the conveyor belt business after perfecting bag-transporting machinery for seed, grain and tobacco farmers.
Hytrol's state-of-the-art products are now used by companies ranging from Amazon.com to Office Depot to leading pharmaceutical, retail, food and publishing conglomerates around the world. A pioneer in the materials handling industry, Hytrol employs 1,300 high-skilled workers and will rake in revenues of more than $200 million this year alone.

"Tchotchkes"?
Tell that to the employees of Wisconsin's Pierce Manufacturing, which displayed one of its 30,000 custom-built fire trucks on the White House front lawn. Pierce started out as an auto body shop operating out of a converted church and now boasts a 2,000-person workforce. The company produces the iconic aerial tillers, pumpers, tankers and rescue trucks driven by first responders across the country every day.
"Tchotchkes"?
Tell that to Iowa-based RMA Armament's founder Blake Waldrop, a former Marine and police officer, who was inspired to manufacture stronger body armor after losing a comrade in Iraq to an IED attack. His ceramic plates, also featured at the "Made in America" event on Monday, have been purchased by police departments in Baltimore, Los Angeles and Waterloo, Iowa. Waldrop is working on partnerships to bring his products to the U.S. military and overseas.
"I always tell people I didn't invent armor any more than Steve Jobs invented the computer," Waldrop told the Des Moines Register earlier this year. "I just found a better way to do it, just like he did."
"Tchotchkes"?
Delaware's ILC Dover participated in President Trump's "Made in America" exhibition, too. Its trademark trifling bauble? The space suit worn by every U.S. astronaut since Project Apollo. Prolific inventor-turned-industrialist Abram Spanel, a Russian-born son of Jewish garment workers, spun off the company from his giant latex conglomerate that manufactured everything from girdles and swimwear to canteens and lifeboats.
ILC Dover produced high-pressure suits and helmets for the Air Force before winning a contract to design suits for NASA. In addition to displaying spacesuits used on the Space Shuttle and International Space Station programs, the company brought to the White House its DoverPac Flexible Isolator System used by pharmaceutical companies in their manufacturing processes; its Sentinel respirator used in the health care industry; and its SCape escape respirator used to protect U.S. government officials around the world from carbon monoxide, chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear contaminants.
Could Trump and his family's own companies do better in hiring American and manufacturing in America? Sure.
To nastily deride the makers and job creators proudly showing off their wares in the nation's capital at the invitation of our commander in chief takes a special level of anti-Trump lunacy and arrogance.
"Maybe it's just me," Kristol snarked as he heaped scorn on "Made in America" week.
Yes, it is just you, Kristol, and the rest of your Beltway Swamp "schmendricks" who turn their noses at the "tchotchkes" that help save lives, move mountains and break barriers across the galaxy.
The rest of us give praise and thanks.

Howdy y'all. It's thrilling Thursday! 72 out there now looking toward a high of 93 with 20% chance of rain.
Need to clear the sink and fold the rest of yesterday's laundry.
Kiara seems all chipper and sweet this morning. Kiara's surgery lines look fine so she seems (for now) to be healing up nicely. Lilo is still hissing if she gets a glimpse of her.

Oh, Roger you don't need a 'smart phone' to butt dial. My old cell did it, and I've done it with my iPhone as well. And it could have been a butt dial. As it was way too easy to look up the phone number and get name, etc. The crap calls are not that easy to trace. . I hadn't thought about a butt dial though. Good call.
Hi Valerie
I hope You had a Good Day shopping.
That reminds me, Today is SS for my brother too.
I wonder how You could do that with a Flip Phone?
It was the first thing that occurred to me

The 10 Most Popular Governors Are All Republican however
Leah Barkoukis Posted: Jul 19, 2017 8:40 AM
The top 10 are as follows:
1. Charlie Baker (R-MA)
2. Larry Hogan (R-MD)
3. Matt Mead (R-WY)
4. Doug Burgum (R-ND)
5. Dennis Daugaard (R-SD)
6. Kay Ivey (R-AL)
7. Brian Sandoval (R-NV)
8. Phil Scott (R-VT)
9. Gary Herbert (R-UT)
10. Bill Haslam (R-TN)
While Republicans took the top spots in terms of popularity, they were also seven of the 10 least popular governors in the country.
Republican New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie came in dead last, with 69 percent of Garden State residents disapproving of his job performance and only 25 percent approving.
The survey of 195,000 registered voters was conducted from April 1 through July 10.
Have a Great Friday
Roger0 -
I think He flooded it0 -
Howdy y'all. It's fabulous Friday! 73 out there now with an expected high of 95 and 20% chance of rain.
I did finally get that laundry (towels and undies) folded yesterday.
Today, the sink is cleared. Lilo, Kiara and I have all been fed. Lilo hisses now whenever she goes past the hall bathroom. I think she is blaming Kiara for the new food bowl with the MOVING lid. She's sort of right, on the new food bowl, though we COULD have just done as we did with Ariel and put Kiara's food on the counter, where Lilo won't jump.
We really would rather have their food on the floor though where no one has to jump to get it. Kiara is taking to the moving lid on her food bowl much better, but then she's a kitten, not an old cat. When she gets older this shouldn't be as important, having their food separated, but it will ensure that neither of them can gobble up all the food before the other one gets a chance to eat. For now, it's very important as Kiara's kitten food would not be a good food for Lilo to eat and Lilo's mature cat food would surely not be a good food for Kiara to eat.
Valerie, there's a cute kitten (about 6 months old) at our vet who needs a forever home. You should check him out and get him for Tom to have a friend. He's been there for a month or so and is very friendly. If we had not already queued up Kiara, we would likely have taken him home instead, but I really don't want to go to three cats again and we certainly weren't going to throw TWO kittens into Lilo's sedate world, both at the same time. Not to mention we'd have to have set up THREE different segregated feeding/living areas as Kiara needs isolation while she heals up and Lilo would not be wanting to share space right away with any kitten.
When we got Ariel, as a very young kitten, 8 years ago, Lilo adopted her and acted like Ariel was her kitten. I guess she was still remembering when she was a mother. To be fair, at that time she had already become accustomed to living with 3 other cats, though she didn't really seem to like any of them. She did cohabit with them, without any major problems. We were quite surprised when she actually liked Ariel. They remained friends right up almost to the end, when she didn't like whatever she smelled on Ariel, probably she could smell the cancer and impending death. She's sure as heck not taking on this 5 1/2 month old as a daughter. LOL.

So. Why did we name our kitten Kiara? Because it's a pretty name for a kitten.
Conveniently, it also continues our "theme" of naming our cats after Disney characters, though we have, in fact, only actually given a name to ONE of our prior cats. Figaro was named after Pinocchio's kitten, because he had a pretty good resemblance to that kitten, though all the paws didn't quite match up.
Kiara is named after the protagonist in The Lion King II: Simba's Pride.
All of our other cats already had names when we adopted them and we just left those names in place, even for baby kittens Alice and Sunnie who we could have easily renamed when we adopted them. Twist and Lilo were adopted as adults and also already named, and Ariel, though a small kitten, was already named.
We found out later that Twist had a brother named Ollie, possibly short for Oliver, who we had almost adopted with her - not KNOWING he was her brother, and suspected that her prior owner was going for a Dickens theme in cat names. Ollie was a fluffy, long haired grey cat, as opposed to Twist's fluffy orange tabby coat. We don't know if he was her biological brother or just adopted brother, but the owner apparently had to give up her cats because of being moved into a no-pets living space or the like.
We liked all those names well enough that we didn't feel any need to try to change them and wouldn't have in the case of the adult cats anyway. Figaro probably had a name before he was abandoned but since we had no idea what it was, I got to pick a name for him. I happened to pick a Disney name.
Lilo, of course, also already had a Disney name.
Kiara officially brings Disney names into the majority, with 4 out of 7 of the cats we've had (or still have) in our lives carrying Disney character names, including both of the current cats.

Curiously, Bonobo did a tune called Kiara. And this particular posting happens to feature a picture with a couple of cats. I had NOT seen/heard this before selecting her name.

Good Morning! TGIF!
Mine little eyes are not awake just yet. Wanting very much to shut and not see! BUT, lots to do today, so excuse me while I go find the tooth picks!
Cleaning, laundry, yard mowing, the usual stuff....tomorrow coffee about 11:30, and Jack and the kids are coming over on Sunday he said...hummm surprised me! So Grammie needs to do some scrambling so the kids aren't bored, and get a 'grammie style' snack prepared. (thinking fruit salad) I broke down and bought one of the 'kiss' line of cantaloupes...I got the Sugar Kiss, and they are all they're advertised to be. Very juicy, very sweet cantaloupes..You know, cantaloupes like Mom grew in the garden! And I have a papaya that needs to be cut up, and a mango, there's always bananas, etc. Yep, I think I could pull that together....no Jello needed!
I got half the lawn mowed yesterday, will have a go at the other half in just a little bit. Trash day..hope they p ick up the old broken carpet shampoo machine, and I put a '70's' style bar stool out at the street. I was hoping somebody would pick that up rather than the trash men, but I just need it gone...
Roger I"m not at all surprised about Gov. Chris Christie being dead last. (and from what I see down here, its almost as thought he's working at being last !?!! I'm willing to bet the Gov. of MO is among the least popular...I know he's got my brother and his friends all in a snit! I don't remember the guys name...very young Gov. May be part of the problem?
Ok, time to get something to eat, and feed Tom E. .... Oh, Ed...I wouldn't subject any sweet little kitty/cat to grumpy old Tom E.. Tom just doesn't have the face or he'd be instantly recognized as the "Grumpy" cat. Tom does have a sweet little furry face...and mean mouth and paws!
Ok, Roger has posted....Roger, I'm gonna save your post and cartoons til I have some breakfast in front of me....O'kay???
Later...0 -
Ok, that one long one was jut about lunch! I think this one is about breakfast...
