Howdy y'all. It's satisfying Saturday! 37 out there now with an expected high of 64 and no chance of precipitation.

I got my $60 prepaid gift card (not rechargeable) for doing Jury duty, so we had pizza for dinner last night, just to "break it in" and so I had pizza for breakfast too. The cats looked on enviously.

Need to clean up yesterday's cat bowls but other than that the sink is cleared. And, of course, need to feed the cats in a while. This morning, for a change, Dinah was the one up in my face making noises to get me up. This is usually Lilo's job but she was at the foot of the bed, and Kiara was in her usual spot on the desk/table at the foot of the bed, lying on the fake lambskin we leave there for them. Sometimes she is in one of the cat tents under the desk.

Dinah is usually up on the cat tree, by the window, waiting for me to get up and come over and give her a morning kiss. Guess she got tired of waiting for it today?

Probably doing laundry and may even get Eddie to do some of the house cleaning he conveniently avoided yesterday.

And a few plants need watering.
    Hi Ed
I have a gift card with a whopping $3.69 left out of it's face value of $50.

Looking around yesterday and today while I walked a different route I did see lots of smaller branches on the ground. The largest I saw is 10 to 12 inches thick. I did spend some time using my walking stick to throw branches off of the sidewalks for my own and other's convenience. I talked to the local police yesterday and they commented that there lots of power outages around town along with road closures. It appears that I was lucky with a 15 minute more or less power loss from the storm.

I do not think I have had smothered steak, Does that mean covered with gravy ?

My Brother has a cleaning chain that is sold by Lehman's for cleaning Cast Iron skillets. I can see where a acid foods could damage the surface. Eggs are acid or does that mean they can damage the surface using some other method ?
Smothered steak could also be called fricasseed steak, similar to the way I generally prepare rabbit when I have it. Maybe it's more of a southern thing...it's like taking a lightly chicken fried steak and then simmering it in gravy. Really nice with mashed potatoes, a vegetable, and a roll.

    Here's one recipe for it:

    http://www.geniuskitchen.com/recipe/smothered-steak-deeply-southern-163301

Oh, and to answer the question I keep forgetting to answer, yes, I have occasionally used corn starch by itself, or mixed with flour, for an extra crunchy crunch. One method for really crunchy battered foods calls for using all, or mostly, corn starch and using vodka for the liquid, to make a dipping batter that won't toughen up from being overworked while re-stirring between dippings, while waiting for one batch to finish up and the next to go in the oil.

I've seen those cleaning chains but thought they were for stripping the finish, to re-season the pan. For that I usually use a Brillo pad. The cleaning chains might be a better stripper though, being a bit stronger than a Brillo pad.
I am not sure however it could be a regional food.

    Thanks for recipe

I wonder how a beer batter such as is used on Onion Rings would work vs the Corn Starch and Vodka ?

I really need to ask the local Chinese how they get their Chicken Wings so Crispy.
    Remember Toaster Eggs?
Toaster Eggs does not ring a bell, not even a little tinkle of a small bell

I shall need to look at that link and see what they are.

OK, I just looked and they do not look like eggs. I can see why they were a short lived item.

    Have a Nice Day

Good Evening! Almost time for my evening foodie summit. So I"lll be quick.
Roger, I never actually lost power, yea! Wind gusts were pretty much just along the frontal edge of the storm...after that just rain and some 'normal' winds. The Mouse trap is not for vegans...they don't eat cheese :) My IP is not one that is being recalled. Mine is round...the bad ones are oval. And yep, I would like to see Amazon HQ2 here in GA. Would be nice revenue for the state.
Ed, I'll watch the video's tomorrow with breakfast. That last one...the Pringles trick...I can't wait to see that constructed. Would be a 'mind blown' exhibit for some grandchildren I know!
I have a cleaning chain...use that and hot water to clean my cast iron. Works nicely. Its smoooooth and slinky as all get out! I like to call it my life saving chainmail! Or Pan saving whatever...
    Ok...time's up

    Later...

Howdy y'all. It's superb Sunday! 36 out there now (35 when I got up a while ago) with an expected high of 64 and no chance of precipitation.

Breakfast was a pork chop I found in the freezer along with some leftover whole wheat turkey flavor stuffing.

Still need to get that laundry done. Yesterday turned out to be another lazy Saturday. We don't get those that often and it's very rare to get two in a row, so I enjoyed it immensely. I did briefly get out to the store but that didn't really mess up the lazy.

I'm on my second mug of tea now and looking forward to mugs three and four coming up. Dinah was dashing around after something but seems to have settled down though she's very alert. Lilo just startled Kiara by sneaking up and licking her dangling tail so now Kiara is moving to another position where she can keep an eye on Lilo. Cats being cats.

I asked at a Vietnamese place and they said that they use ONLY seasoned cornstarch for the dredging, no flour. Two reasons for it. It makes really crispy crunchy wings and it's also gluten free so customers who are concerned about gluten can eat all the wings they want, if done that way.

It is a slightly cloudy day so far, Hopefully the Sun will come out later. Yesterdays weather forecasts are saying that we could get another storm on Wednesday.

The scale was nicely lower than yesterday morning, again, It seems that the "Time-restricted eating" combined with a 100% NS plan is working really well so far.

Thanks for that information, I always thought that they only used cornstarch for breading, I had not realized that they mixed flour in also. The reasons for doing it with only cornstarch make sense too.

Howdy y'all. It's marvelous Monday! 41 out there now with an anticipated high of 63 and 30% chance of precipitation.

Is it just me or are those percentages always a multiple of 10?

Still need to get that laundry done, and maybe get a few things at the store. We do have an orchid show coming up this weekend, and I'm helping with the hospitality for it, but that will be a separate trip, probably Wednesday.

I've eaten and the sink is cleared, except for yesterday's cat bowls. Dinah and Kiara were tearing around like lunatics but have, for the moment, settled down to wait quietly for their breakfast.

    Good Morning!
Local weather says rain late evening...Weather Channel is throwing in rain noon thru 1p, and then late night rain...
Gym, a few groceries, and more house work,
Yesterday I 'binge watched' Dr. Doug Lisle. and did only what had to be done, like unload the dishwasher, and clean cat boxes. Then last night I started moving furniture and got out the carpet cleaner thingy and cleaned the dining room carpet...will do the living room tonite. Tom was freaked. But, he was alright with the noise by the time I was done. :)

I hadn't seen 'Uncle Miltie'' in years! Thanks Ed.

I did enjoy, and hopefully learned a few things from Dr. Lisle. He was a presenter on the foodie vid series that I'm currently watching, and I eventually ended up on his web page, Esteem Dynamics...and there I spent the majority of my Sunday.

I think its time to let the cat back in the house, as he just hoped onto the porch, and then I'll hop into the shower, and off to the gym, and Kroger!

    Later...
