    Hi
I was out walking this morning and did 6200 steps, Yesterday I went back put in the cfaternoon and ended up over 11K steps for the day. The temperature this morning was 51/52 degrees. It was a nice day outside for walking until the light rain started. That was blown into me as I was on the homeward leg of my walk so I shortcut it slightly :(

    From Here:
    https://www.studyfinds.org/change-lightbulb-household-chores-study/
Survey: 1 In 5 Adults In The UK Can’t Change A Lightbulb, Boil An Egg
22Apr - by Study Finds - 473 - In Brain Studies Education Studies Intelligence Studies
LONDON — Are you handy enough that if a lightbulb went out in your home you’d be able to change it? Believe it or not, one in five people aren’t so skilled. In fact, a new survey of people in the United Kingdom finds not only do about 20 percent of people not know how to change a bulb — the same number aren’t sure how to boil an egg, either.

The British insurance company Aviva recently released their annual Home Report which detailed, among numerous findings about how people do work around the house, relatively common tasks that people encounter. The company surveyed 2004 people across the UK in February and March about their habits and roles at home.
    Lightbulbs
A stunning new survey from the United Kingdom found that one in five people did not know how to change a lightbulb or boil an egg.

In addition to just one in five not being able to change a lightbulb or boil an egg, the survey found that nearly a third of the participants couldn’t cook any meal on the fly. And if someone were to spill a portion of their meal on their clothes or on the floor, only 59 percent would know how to get rid of the resulting stain.

Only 37 percent could change a flat tire.

The findings were even surprising to the folks behind the study.

“As a nation we tend to take pride in our ability to do things ourselves in and around the home, so it’s a surprise to see there could be a skills gap in places,” says Aviva Propositions Director Adam Beckett in a press release. “That said, we also know that people lead busy lives, so while we enjoy doing things ourselves, we also appreciate the opportunity to leave things to a professional from time to time, particularly with some of the more challenging jobs.”

Interestingly, while 50 percent of those surveyed said they learned how to do a home task on their by trial and error, plenty of people are turning to the internet for help, especially millennials. The study found four in 10 people aged 25 and under prefer learning do-it-yourself chores online. That’s more than twice the number in the age group who turn to an actual book for help.

Here’s a look at the polled tasks and the number of people who indicated they could successfully complete them:

Task Percentage who feel confident doing this task
    Boil an egg 81%
    Change a light bulb 79%
Cook a complete meal without using a recipe 69%
    Read a map 66%
    Sew on a button 65%
    Unblock a sink 62%
Remove a stain from a carpet or clothing 59%
    Change a baby’s nappy 57%
    Wire a plug 57%
    ‘Bleed’ a radiator 53%
Check oil levels in a car 53%
    Put up a shelf 47%
    Put up wallpaper 39%
    Change a flat tyre 37%
    Change a washer on a tap 30%
    Fit tiles 22%

Click here the link above to read the entire report, which broke down the findings by age groups and revealed many other interesting results.

    Hello!

I had a really hungry day yesterday. I think because I added a slice of bread and have been eating the oranges, my sugar level is not quite as low as usual. There are worse things than"overeating" a fresh orange! But it is amazing the cravings came back as I added a slight amount of a fairly healthy but refined white fiber bread, and had a little more sugar from fruit than usual. I am happy though that yesterday's struggle was the first in a while. I do need to up my veggie intake a bit, and I have a chicken to defrost, so this should be a good protein day! Thanks for the encouragement!

It is cloudy today, and right now, quite cool. It does feel heavenly. Glad you found some cents, lol! ;)

I got quite a few chuckles out of the humor page! I just loved the autocorrect one, as that has happened on occasion. Sometimes my computer picks the oddest non related things when I have misspelled something, and rely on it to fix my mistake. I try to fix mine myself, just to not lose the ability, but my spelling has sure gotten worse with age, lol!

It is so chilly, I need to close one door on the way for more coffee! A little too breezy at the moment! We have such crazy weather here! On my way to check out the humor! Take care, keep up all the good work! ..Jan ..Have a great day!
    Hi Jan
I would think White bread is the worst and could cause cravings :)
as an example we currently have a 40 calorie a slice White Bread and a 21 grain 60 calorie per slice organic bread in the house. The Both toast up nicely and work for sandwiches.

A sugar crash could cause those hunger pangs IMO. The white bread and orange could either or in combination cause that to happen, I could be wrong too.

    Congratulations:

All Saturday, i ran the puppy kissing booth at our Rescue garage sale. Sunday I worked. I tried to mow the back, thankfully the fuse blew...so i took that as a sign and hired a company to mow. I'm happy that I'm back below my pre-Easter weight, and paying attention. I called the new doctor and emailed my MRI report to him. He won't schedule an appointment until after he reads the report.

    Hi Val
I freaked out yesterday that I had killed my Basement Vacuum Cleaner, We have one there and one each on the two other floors. No lugging up and down stairs, $50 to save my back, Worth It :)
What happened was the shredder bag slipped into the Bin and some of the shredded DVDs fell into it. So I was vacuuming them out and it just quit and would not run. However a couple of hours later it worked again so...

However I think I will use the Wet/Dry shop vacuum to finish. You have fuses and not breakers?

This would be an example of a 20 amp fuse replacement that is actually a screw in Circuit breaker.
    https://www.amazon.com/Bussmann-BP-MB-20-Circuit-Breaker/dp/B000GAS1GY

    From a Review
If you own an older house, then you've had the pleasure of changing fuses. In our little house that means groping around in the dark to find a flashlight so I can find the proper amp fuse. Half the time, the end result is a trip to the hardware store. With these installed, all you have to do is open the fuse box and press the button when it trips. No muss, no fuss, and no pricey bids from electricians to replace the fuse box. I just wish Bussmann made more than two sizes.

And this is a 15 amp replacement
    https://www.amazon.com/Bussmann-BP-MB-15-Circuit-Breaker/dp/B000S5RGFY/ref=pd_sim_60_1?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B000S5RGFY&pd_rd_r=W4WY1TKDZKX56SQM1AR3&pd_rd_w=1Jm3m&pd_rd_wg=JOmqs&psc=1&refRID=W4WY1TKDZKX56SQM1AR3

FWIW I am not completely surprised the doctor want to get the MRI report first

    Congratulations on this:

    Good morning!

It is warmer and sunny. I was able to plant a few things and work on the house some, so things are looking up. I guess I need to go to Montgomery and get Chester's medicine, just his arthritis renewal. Hopefully I will do a little of my chores before leaving!

Val. your picture is priceless! I can't think of a more fun thing to do than running the doggie kissing booth, lol! That usually brings in some good donations! We had one down here with Hank, who is a beautiful rescued lab, whose back legs were severely broken. The rescue sent him to a specialist and he is great. He got out of his doggie collar and raised $200.00 at the kissing booth, a dollar a kiss! I did not get to go and I sure would have liked to! It was a small rescue group, that has really grown thanks to social media and their following, who cough up the bucks when needed, thank goodness! Love rescues!!! <3 Thanks for working with them!!

Well, the school in Andalusia was not open Friday and a youth is in custody. There has been a total media blackout on what happened. I am guessing maybe a bomb or chemical threat, but that is only a guess. I have not seen this happen before, that there was not some word, especially in follow-up, unless I missed it, but that seems unlikely. You never know...

Doing better in the hunger pangs department. I will have to eat more chicken and veggies I guess! Just thankful things are restful and quiet here! :)

Keep up the good work, all! Fingers and toes crossed about the MRI! ..Jan B)

House has circuit breakers (but previous house had fuses). This was the fuse on the electric mower...they stopped making these fuses a few years ago, so I'll need to buy a whole new mower. But for now, they can mow!

That puppy is Buster. His mom is Heidi. We found her at a gas station...everyone said she had been a street dog all her life. She was very pregnant and delivered 10 puppies around Thanksgiving. All ten are beautiful happy healthy and loved (by their new families)...and mama Heidi got adopted too. Three families adopted two pups each...and it's great because they wear each other out rather than wearing their owners out. I'm "Aunt Val" to the babies and bring them over to my house as needed (babysitting).

Happy to report that I'm starting to see and feel the loss of these pounds. The first place I lose is my rib cage...I actually have ribs! But that was the shelf that used to provide, um, support...so gravity is taking hold. Lol. Losing without exercising is slower, but feeling better to be back on track. Thanks for all your support and encouragement...and patience!

Hip update- it really is my back! At night, I have been sleeping with legs bent and elevated so my back de-compresses. Each morning, I have no hip pain! I'm purposefully tightening my core when i walk, and resting the weight of my upper body (on the kitchen counter) when I feel the hip aching. So, pain is avoidable! Still waiting for the new ortho office to call back. But at least my symptoms are finally consistent with the Dx.

Lower Your Risk Of Heart Disease — By Eating Peanuts With Your Meal, Study Finds
    19Apr - by Study Finds
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — Looking to add an extra layer of protection against having a heart attack? Just add a side of peanuts to your lunch or dinner.

A new study finds that including peanuts with a meal helps keep your arteries stronger after eating — an important factor in allowing healthy blood flow, which lowers your risk of suffering from cardiovascular diseases that can result in heart attack or stroke.
    Peanuts
A new study finds that eating a side of peanuts with your meal may help keep your arteries healthy and prevent against cardiovascular diseases.

Researchers at Penn State University studied 15 overweight and obese men who were otherwise healthy, and had them eat a high-fat meal, following by three-ounces of unsalted peanuts (about three times the amount of an average serving) ground into a shake. A control group was then instructed to eat the same meal, but those participants were fed a shake that contained no peanuts, but was similar in size and nutritional value.

Thirty minutes after the meal, the researchers drew blood from the participants and measured for lipid, lipoprotein, and insulin levels. Blood was drawn again an hour after the meal, and then again at two hours and four hours after the meal. Blood flow was monitored via ultrasound.

The authors determined that the individuals who consumed the peanut shake saw a 32 percent reduction in levels of triglycerides — or fat in blood — compared to those who had the control shake.

The researchers say that grounding peanuts into a shake isn’t necessary for the result — people should see the same effect if eaten normally.

“Typically, whenever we eat something, it causes the arteries to get a little bit stiffer during the post-meal period, but we have shown that if you eat peanuts with your meal, this can help prevent the stiffening response,” says Penny Kris-Etherton, distinguished professor of nutrition at the university, in a press release.

“When the stiffening response happens in the cells that line the arteries, resulting in decreased elasticity in the arteries, it can limit the availability of nitric oxide, and when there’s less nitric oxide, the arteries don’t dilate that much,” she adds. “What you want is a dilation of the arteries and for them to be really elastic.”

Kris-Etherton says that stiffened arteries force the heart to work harder and thus raises the risk of disease and potentially heart failure.

“After a meal, triglycerides increase and this typically decreases the dilation of the arteries, but the peanuts prevent that big increase in triglycerides after the meal,” says Kris-Etherton. “And that may be the mechanism behind this effect, because the triglycerides are not getting so high, which may explain why there is not a decrease in artery elasticity.”

The study was published last month in the Journal of Nutrition.

From a post elsewhere, Enjoy :)

A.A.A.D.D. -Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder.

    This is how it manifests:
I decide to water my garden. As I turn on the hose in the driveway, I look over at my car and decide it needs washing.

As I start toward the garage, I notice mail on the porch table that I brought up from the mail box earlier. I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car.

I lay my car keys on the table, put the junk mail in the garbage can under the table, and notice that the can is full. So I decide to put the bills back on the table & take out the garbage first. But then I think, since I'm going to be near the mailbox when I take out the garbage anyway, I may as well pay the bills first.

I take my check book off the table, and see that there is only one check left.My extra checks are in my desk in the study, so I go inside the house to my desk where I find the can of Pepsi I'd been drinking. I'm going to look for my checks, but first I need to push the Pepsi aside so that I don't accidentally knock it over. The Pepsi is getting warm.I decide to put it in the refrigerator to keep it cold.

As I head toward the kitchen with the Pepsi, a vase of flowers on the counter catches my eye. They need water.I put the Pepsi on the counter and discover my reading glasses that I've been searching for all morning.I decide I better put them back on my desk, but first I'm going to water the flowers.I set the glasses back down on the counter, fill a container with water and suddenly spot the TV remote someone had left it on the kitchen table.I realize that tonight when we go to watch TV,I'll be looking for the remote, but I won't remember that it's on the kitchen table, so I decide to put it back in the den where it belongs.

But first I'll water the flowers.I pour some water in the flowers. Quite a bit of it spills on the floor. So, I set the remote back on the table, get some towels and wipe up the spill. Then I head down the hall trying to remember what I was planning to do.

At the end of the day: the car isn't washed, the bills aren't paid, there is a warm can of Pepsi sitting on the counter, the flowers still don't actually have enough water, there is still only 1 check in my check book, I can't find the remote, I can't find my glasses, and I don't remember what I did with the car keys.

Then, when I try to figure out why nothing got done, I'm really baffled because I know I was busy all damn day, and I'm really tired.

I realize this is a serious problem, and I'll try to get some help for it, but first I'll check my e-mail...

At least You have confirmed it in Your mind what the problem is and there should be a cure. I wonder if it is a easy to recover from surgery ?

Around here there are advertisement that run on the TV for back surgery with a tiny opening and same day walk out the door feeling better. I know there have been advances in how they do it since when I had the Carpal Tunnel surgery. That was a 2" plus cut and a moderately lengthy rehab period :(

Andalusia City Schools were closed on Friday due to a threat that could have compromised the safety of students, according to a statement from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

A juvenile was arrested, Alabama state Trooper Kevin Cook said in an email. Those charges, though, haven't been released.

Few details about the nature of the safety threat are being released as of early Friday afternoon.

Agents with the State Bureau of Investigation are investigating "a situation that could have compromised the safety of one of the Andalusia City Schools," Cook said.

In an alert issued on Friday, Andalusia City Schools said the system was alerted to information Thursday evening and Friday morning that "would warrant the cancellation of school ... out of an abundance of caution.

"Please know that we take the safety of your students very seriously," the statement said. "While it is never possible to predict specific outcomes, inconvenience is a small price to pay for even a hint that student safety might be compromised."

It seems they are playing the nature of the threat close to the vest.

    https://thehappyfoodie.co.uk/recipes/lardy-cake
Interesting read especially to me and my Sweet Tooth :)
I also saw a suggestion to use Butter Flavored Crisco instead of Lard...
    Lardy Cake

This traditional British Lardy Cake recipe is from Mary-Anne Boermans' wonderful Great British Bakes cookbook. A perfect mid-afternoon treat with a hot cup of tea.

    Introduction
Lardy Cake is a popular traditional bake, regularly seen in the bakeries in my home town, and one of my favourite treats as a child. So it came as something of a surprise to find that it was not universally known, and that the mere mention of the word 'lard' was once greeted with horrified looks. Having actually tasted Lardy Cake, this reaction was a source of great puzzlement to me, because I think it is delicious.

The origins of Lardy Cake are in the countryside, where it was traditionally eaten as a mid-afternoon snack by the workers in the fields. Known as 'fourses', this snack time was the afternoon equivalent of the morning's 'elevenses'. The calorie-heavy sweet dough, accompanied by a cool bottle of ale, was just the thing to keep energy levels up during the long days of harvest.

Lardy Cake is one of the simplest cakes to make, in that the main ingredient is bread dough. This is enriched by dotting lard and sugar over the rolled dough, folding and rerolling, then sprinkling with sugar and dried fruit. The bakeries in my home town used to bake the cake as a giant slab, which was brought into the shop in its tin, already cut into portions. During baking, the lard and sugar melted together to make a delicious chewy caramel that solidified as it cooled. This caramel used to concentrate at the edges of the tin, so for caramel fans, an edge piece was always preferable to a centre one. The centre squares of soft, pillowy sweet dough dotted with fruit had their fans also, but the real prize was a corner piece – the equivalent of two edge pieces rich with sticky caramel. Corner pieces of the Lardy Cake slab were much coveted.

I've tweaked this recipe a little in an attempt to spread the joy of corner pieces, so that everyone can share. I've suggested crimson raisins, but you can use ordinary raisins or a mixture of sultanas and raisins.
    Makes 1 regular loaf cake
    Easy
    Ingredients
    25g lard
500g strong white flour, plus extra for dusting
    1 (7g) sachet of fast-action yeast
    1 tbsp sugar
    1 tsp salt
    300ml warm water
    For the filling:
    120g lard, diced
    150g crimson raisins
    120g caster sugar
    Essential kit

You will need a 1 x 1kg/23cm loaf tin, or similar capacity.
    Instructions

Grease your loaf tin. Cut a strip of baking parchment and lay it lengthwise in the tin, so that the ends overhang the ends of the tin.

Put 25g lard in a bowl with the flour, yeast, sugar and salt. Gradually add the warm water, mixing well, until the mixture comes together in a soft dough. Knead thoroughly until smooth, about 10 minutes. Cover and set aside to rise until doubled in size, about 1 hour.

When the dough is fully risen, tip it out on to a floured surface and pat down. With a floured rolling pin, roll the dough out to a large rectangle about 5mm thick.

Dot the 120g lard for the filling all over the surface of the dough. Sprinkle the raisins, then the sugar over the top.

Cut the dough into strips as wide as your loaf tin and stack them on top of one another. Now cut through the strips vertically to make squares and stack these squares in the prepared tin with their cut sides uppermost. They will resemble bread slices in a loaf. Cover and leave to rise a second time for 30–45 minutes.

    Preheat the oven to 200°C/180°C fan/gas 6.

Bake for 30–40 minutes until crisp and golden on top and cooked through. If the loaf seems to be browning too much, lay some baking parchment over the top until fully cooked. Cool in the tin.

    Hmm...
I'm making myself crave some :(

    Morning!

Well, it was certainly an informative morning on the posts here! I love it! I suffer from AAADD myself with lapses in memory resembling Old Timers in the midst. I felt good as I sometimes accomplish one or two things. Between that and interruptions for "pets and loves" with the dogs, it is hard to move forward, lol!

Roger, hope you feel better! Bless you for getting out in somewhat icky weather anyway! You found more articles than I did, on Andalusia schools. You are right, not much info being discussed. Hmmmm, you have made me crave some Lardy cakes myself! I can always crave bread like objects! :#

I also like I can eat p-nuts and have an extra healthy reason for doing so! My weight loss has slowed a little I think because I am following more of a low carb thing rather than strictly paleo, but I do have a taste for a few things, and sometimes all the meat eating and veggies just seem to need breaking up with a carb or two, now and then! I guess I can not be strictly "cave-person", lol! I also got a kick out of the simple things people no longer know how to do. There was a similar study done in the U.S. with similar results. It is amazing how we lose skills. My grandparents canned and salted food all the time, I do not have a clue how to, though I can look it up. Seems like way too much work though. I am more lazy than the generation before me, I think!

Glad Val, that you can get some temporary relief by repositioning. The disk repair has been being done for a while, so there should be good info on it. Sometimes rest heals it, but in your case it does seem like more might be needed. I think it depends on the damage. I think occasionally they fuse some bones if the disk can not be helped. It should be interesting to see what is offered. Glad you complained about your treatment from the rude Doc. They should get some feedback!

Hope everyone has a peaceful accomplishing day! Hang in all! Jan.. Thanks for humor! :)

I spoke with the complaint dept at dr Ballfin's office. He was very courteous. I'm relieved by providing feedback. I told him I don't want anything except for him to never bully another patient.

    Hi Val
    Hopefully that will help.

    Congratulations on:
lost 0.4 lbs since last weighing in! Hope4change_val's lost 19.6 lbs so far.

    Hi Jan
Shhh, Lardy Cakes are not diet friendly :(

I have heard that Nuts are a good source of protein, However peanuts are not really nuts IMO. However it is good to know that they will not hurt us and can help us instead.

It does make me wonder why they are not releasing more information.

    Congratulations on Your Consistency

    Hi
I was out walking this morning and did 7200 steps, The temperature this morning was 59/60 degrees. It was a nice day outside for walking despite the cloud cover. The Dense Fog in the forecast has not shown up so far. The plan for today is a trip to eastern Pennsylvania so that should add to my step count nicely.

From Here, More information and details by following the links:
    http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/business/biotech/sd-me-salt-diet-20170425-story.html

Higher sodium intake associated with lower blood pressure. You read that right.
In another blow against decades of accepted medical wisdom, one of the most prestigious, long-running studies reports that lowering sodium intake doesn’t reduce blood pressure.

The study also implies that most Americans are consuming a perfectly healthy amount of salt, the main source of sodium. But those who are salt-sensitive, about 20 to 25 percent of the population, still need to restrict salt intake.

Consuming fewer than 2,500 milligrams of sodium daily is actually associated with higher blood pressure, according to the Framingham Offspring Study report, given today. The American Heart Association recommends consuming no more than 2,300 milligrams of sodium daily, equal to a teaspoon of ordinary iodized table salt.
    And
    http://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/2017/04/24/bay-area-low-income-100000-san-francisco-san-mateo-county-hud/
SAN FRANCISCO (KPIX 5) – New figures from the federal government finds in parts of the Bay Area, some people who bring in a six-figure income can be considered “low-income.”

Edward Apana of South San Francisco – married, with 2 children – says the cost of living in the Bay Area is a challenge. So to hear that six-figures is now considered “low income” is a bit shocking, but not that hard to believe.

“Between the two of us, we can still make San Francisco, San Mateo County home,” Apana told KPIX 5 “If one of us were to lose our job, it would be kind of tough.”

The new numbers come from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and specifically have to do with eligibility for government assistance for housing.

HUD says a family of four in San Francisco or San Mateo County with an income of 105,350 is now considered “low income.” For Alameda and Contra Costa County, $80,400 is considered low income.

    Hmm...

    Have a Great Thursday

    Hello!

A trip sounds like a great deal, Roger! I like Penn. Hope it is fun! :)

Interesting about the salt. It makes me wonder though, as hidden salt seems to be the biggest culprit. If you are not watching it, it can be a rather high level. It can lead to edema, and would that not affect B/P? It does make you wonder though! I wonder about cutting salt so much we do not have enough iodine. Some of the specialty salts do not contain it. Such contradictory information at times!

Well, I always thought we had worked up to " being rich", lol! When we made about $98,000 a year, I felt rich! Good thing we were in Alabama, though not necessarily my favorite state! Now I live on less than a third, with half being my own money. And I do feel poor! Hmmm....

My A/C had it's spring tune-up today. May was quite disheartened to find she was relegated to the back yard. Never a sadder pup to behold, which is funny as she loves to be out and spends the majority of her time there, except snooze time! Chester is so toothless and slow, he can stay in, unless they have an objection. We had storms which I slept thru, but a couple tornado touchdowns later in the afternoon when the atmosphere warmed up some. It was east of us, and not too populated an area. Always good.

I need to put down some grass seed, spread some dirt, and check out my lawn mower. I need to clear limbs badly. And here I sit, lol! I am thinking I need caffeine, though not good for my B/P, it is good for getting me up and moving more. Can't win!! ... Take care, .. Jan :#

I need to control my salt intake due to edema. Fortunately just my dietary changes keeps the leg edema down. Hip is in a lot of pain this afternoon. So I'm lying down trying to stretch my back. Spent an hour on the phone with a doctor specialist referral company...they have ONE back doctor within 150 miles (San Antonio has well over a million people)...but the guy is in Austin plus don't know whether he's taking new patients nor whether he takes my insurance. Nice lady but waste of time. So tonight I'll use the insurance website to see who's covered. Work is insanely busy. About 10 yrs ago, i was offered a $100,000/ yr job in Palo Alto (Bay Area). I had a teen, a toddler, and two large dogs....with an hour commute, daycare alone was $1,500/mo, and I could rent a 1973 2-bedroom mobile home in a crowded park, and JUST make ends meet. I turned it down. Beautiful area but I couldn't do it w kids and dogs and no spouse.

    Hi Jan
The trip to Penn. was Ok until the return when we stopped at the Clinton Station Diner
    http://clintonstationdiner.com/

    open 365 Days a year
Home of Mt. Olympus: The 50 lb Burger!!!!

A diner unlike any other you have ever seen. Sit down and observe the model trains go around suspended from the ceiling, or enjoy the unique fish tank!! If you prefer a more quiet setting, sit in our Dining Room near the working fireplace.

I ended up eating a 1/3 pound Bacon Swiss Burger with French Fries Lunch Special And Walnut Pie, Tasty but I am retaining a ton of water :(
The Walnut Pie was sort of like a Pecan Pie where the Pie shell is filled with nuts then the super sweet liquid is added and then baked. It was super tasty,I also think it will take through the weekend at a minimum to recover from the day.

I look at the article on salt and it reminds me of Eggs.
    Eggs are bad for You
    Eggs are OK in moderation
Eat Eggs everyday if desired. Etc.
Those remind me of the flavor of the day for foods. Take Your choice :)

$98,000 would have made me feel rich :)

I hope the AC tuneup was not to expensive?

You are staying more consistent than I :)

Roger- the model trains at the diner sound cool. I remember the sad frustration i used to feel when i left my FitBit behind. The good news is that you still did the steps even if they weren't counted! Way to go.

    Hi Val
I take articles from Anywhere on the Internet and these days in print too with a grain of salt and a huge dose of skepticism. I posted it since it was interesting and
OTOH, since this was a part of the article I linked
The study is an offshoot of the groundbreaking Framingham Heart Study. Both are projects of the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute and Boston University.

That does seem to lend it some veracity.

It seems insane the prices out that way which from my reading are being driven by the High Tech Boom and the salaries being paid.

BTW was the Palo Alto job offer from here:
PARC (Palo Alto Research Center Incorporated), formerly Xerox PARC, is a research and development company in Palo Alto, California, with a distinguished reputation for its contributions to information technology and hardware systems.

Founded in 1970 as a division of Xerox Corporation, PARC has been in large part responsible for such developments as laser printing, Ethernet, the modern personal computer, graphical user interface (GUI) and desktop paradigm, object-oriented programming, ubiquitous computing, amorphous silicon (a-Si) applications, and advancing very-large-scale integration (VLSI) for semiconductors.

Xerox formed Palo Alto Research Center Incorporated as a wholly owned subsidiary in 2002.

Good Luck with the back pain and finding a Doctor.

Congratulations, I saw these posts :)
lost 0.6 lbs since last weighing in! Hope4change_val's lost 20.2 lbs so far.
hope4change_val YES! My 20# bear is back out of the drawer. All my other bears are getting hopeful.

    Good Morning!!

Oh yum!! The diner sounds fantastic! I would have been there right with you, sometimes the food is just too good to pass up. As long as you don't mind paying the price, lol, and jumping right back on board! It can shock your body a little so your calories are not always the same! That is not always bad. I am a pie freak, so I know you had to sample that! You are much better at getting on board faster than I am afterwards, I must say! Be good! o:)

I have had a taste for cereal, so I did buy some. Oddly enough, I am hungry all day! I had bought some wheat chex, which I love, and it is something Winn Dixie does not carry. It is fairly good for you, but it produces cravings, for me at least. After a short stint I need to go back to protein and veggies. Then I do not have the cravings. Weird! The cereal had about 36 or 39 carbs, cannot quite remember. So I must be sensitive and need to stay below that at a time, maybe. I guess I will do a little experimenting! I also was prudent and bought a single serving piece of key lime pie, another thing I had a taste for. That probably did not help. :#

I have to remember it can take a good 2 weeks of being consistently on track to lose my next couple pounds. I expect it to happen any day, and I need to be realistic how long it might take. No wonder I did not lose. I would give up and binge and lose that momentum. It is not like I do not know this, but I can really see this, maybe because I want to stay in this new "10 lbs" region and not slip back. But gosh, it's hard!

Val, Most people in Cal. have lived there for generations and kind of grandfathered in, or make super inflated salaries, or as you said, takes two good incomes. I do not know how anyone makes it there. It is hard to believe there is only one back specialist in a place in Texas with that population. Many orthopedics do backs, so if you can find one with experience, that might help. The best recommendations are previous patients, if you can just talk to the right people, or search enough. You are very persistent and knowledgeable so I know you will find the right person! You are also not afraid to go for other opinions, which is a good thing! Like you said, your insurance will give you a field to work from! Bitter with the sweet!!

I am also so glad about your bears!! What a great reinforcement! That is just fantastic! I know how much effort it takes, esp. with everything going on for you! You really are amazing! Keep it up! Doing the Happy Dance!! And praying you get some good back resolutions!

Keep it up guys!! Perseverance!! ..Jan.. B)

Clarification- San Antonio has lots of orthopedic doctors...it was only that referral place that only listed one. I'll contact my insurance company. That referral company is a company "benefit" ... but since our headquarters is in the Los Angeles area, I think that effects how many they list in Texas. Roger-that long ago job offer was from Lockheed Martin. Work is beyond crazy...need to work most of the weekend... so I just played hookie at took Em to the movies to see Beauty and the Beast. I really enjoyed time with my kid and enjoyed the movie too. (Playing hookie---i only worked 58 hrs this week!) i wish I hadn't regained all that weight, but i did. Glad to be back on track.

    Hi
I was out walking this morning and did 7400 steps + 11 cents, The temperature this morning was 66/64 degrees. It was a nice day outside for walking despite the Sun. I did start to feel the heat from the sun on the return leg of my walk. I got a late start as I slept late after being woken up by a 4:30AM Thunderstorm that lasted until after 5AM with large rain drop noise :)
I did go out to mow the lawn, yesterday and ended up the day at 11.6K+ for a step count. Next weeks mow will be my brothers turn as we alternate. Today is go out and mulch using the bags we bought earlier this week at $2 for a 2 cubic foot Scotts Brown Mulch.

    Have a Great Saturday

    Hi Jan
I am still working on recovering, possibly since I also had a Buttered slice of the Oh So Tasty Part Loaf of Schmoyers Bakery Cinnamon Raisin Bread :( my brother bought at Dietrichs, since 1877 so it has been around a little while :)

I find that high carb foods cause cravings in me.
FWIW I eat around 35 grams of Wheat Chex when I eat it using 4 ounces of 1% Milk and Truvia I buy at CostCo. It is funny that You mentioned it as I had it today for Breakfast :)

    Cheers
