good morning, just got back from a walk to the lake, Annie had a great time I threw a stick for her she loves it. Not much planned I have some boxes to go threw to see if I really want to keep the stuff or not. I plan on going in the pool later.
    Hi Irene
That sounds like a nice outing at the lake.
Many dogs do seem to like fetching.

Vix-There is always one in the crowd. That is one of the reasons I don't watch the news that often.
    Irene-Enjoy your pool time.
Roger-I have heard of Dad's Army, but haven't seen any of the episodes.
It is hot and humid.I think I will stay in my air conditioned house this afternoon.
    Hi Joanne
It seems that some people have gone crazy, the sad part is that they have an audience :(

From feedback elsewhere it seems that 'Allo 'Allo is better liked than Hi De Hi, I tend to not Binge watch so I watch many different shows when I watch.

    Blah. Tired.

Jo, that's the best idea...I try not to watch the news. Even seeing the headlines can be upsetting.
The town we're supposed to stay in on our vacation to Yosemite in Sept has been evacuated because of a wildfire.
My prescription has been lost in the mail.
It's not been a good week.

News is either happy gunk or depressing. What Can You do.

I expect that the fire will be long gone by then. Whether Your Lodgings will be OK I Hope so.

I hope You either get The lost Prescription or a speedy replacement.
That sort of problem is one reason neither I or my brother have chosen that option. We like choices.

I hope things go better in the future

Vix-I hope things start getting better for you. I was always a little afraid of getting prescriptions by mail. How is your friend's daughter? Was she able to travel home?
Irene-I am glad your knee is feeling better.
Roger-Congrats on your find today. I saw on the news that Gov. Christie was at a ball game and caught a foul ball and when the crowd found out who caught it they boo'd him.
I took Sophie to the vet for her recheck and blood work. The cysts have disappeared, but she still needs to take the medication for another 3 weeks. Keep your fingers crossed that her blood work comes back normal.
Tomorrow I take Vinny to the vet to see about his blood sugar spiking so high. I get one cat relatively healthy and the other cat gets sick. I love my pets, but after these 2, no more pets.
I am off work until Tuesday.

Florida Man Says He Went ‘Bananas,’ Shot Out Utility Workers’ Tires
July 20, 2017 5:22 PM By Gary Nelson

HIALEAH (CBSMiami) — A Hialeah man admitted to police he went “bananas” and opened fire on utility trucks in order to stop them from leaving in front of his home.

Jorge Jove, 64, who confessed to firing as many as 18 shots into two AT&T work trucks, and allegedly fired at one worker, was released straight from jail on bond Thursday without having to go before a judge.

One of the utility workers, from a short distance away, recorded with his cell phone Wednesday as Jove, a retired firefighter, police say, went ballistic, upset that the trucks parked on his front swale and driveway and did not move quickly enough when he asked them to.

On the video, you can hear a worker calling 911 as Jove fires over and over again into the trucks, loading his high-powered revolver three times.

“Somebody is up in the bucket right now and they can’t come down because he’s shooting the truck,” one of the workers told 911.

Arriving police reported that they saw Jove fire at the man in the bucket at the top of a utility pole. Jove was booked on multiple counts of aggravated assault with a firearm. A police report says he told detectives that “he went bananas and wanted to stop (the workers) from leaving.”

I put up some more humor this morning

    Hi
I did some walking, The temperature this morning was 71 on the news channel and 73 degrees on the front porch. It is cooler than yesterday, The humidity is still up in what they are calling the Uncomfortable range and is uncomfortable.

I listened to the last 5 minutes of the second book of the Larry Niven 5 book Science Fiction Ringworld Series. That Makes Ringworld and Ringworld Engineers done, Ringworld Throne, Next up as soon as I load it into iTunes for the iPod.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ringworld_series
    Ringworld series
    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ringworld series (1970–2012), by science fiction author Larry Niven, is a part of his Known Space set of stories. Its backdrop is the Ringworld, a giant artifact 600 million miles in circumference around a sun. The series is composed of five standalone science fiction novels, the original award-winning book and its four sequels:

    1970: Ringworld
    1980: The Ringworld Engineers
    1996: The Ringworld Throne
    2004: Ringworld's Children
2012: Fate of Worlds (by Niven and Edward M. Lerner)

Fate of Worlds is also a sequel to the four books of the Fleet of Worlds series, set in the same "Known Space" universe and all written by Niven and Edward M. Lerner:

    2007: Fleet of Worlds
    2008: Juggler of Worlds
    2009: Destroyer of Worlds
    2010: Betrayer of Worlds

    Hi Irene
That's good news that the smoke is staying away from You. I do not just tune out much of the news, Since I DVR it first, I tend to do the 30 second skip forward for quite a lot of it and if I overshoot I use the 10 second skip back as needed. I find that I can get through a 60 minute News broadcast in around 15 minutes once I skip the crud, redundant weather forecasts and things I have already seen :)

It is shame that people let politics intrude into everything :(

I am guessing that a UTI would be better or am I wrong?

I am sorry that You had that happen to You, We have been lucky to avoid that particular problem in the family so far.

    Hi Irene and Roger.

I lean towards Theft, the thieves know what a certain looking package's contents are. I see lots more packages being stolen off of doorsteps in the news too. That makes me happy to have a enclosed porch and delivery instructions to put things inside on the porch.

I tend to being a packrat myself. I prefer that term to the less kind Semi-Hoarder term. I still have the original Microsoft Word for Windows. Back then it not only came with a Manual it was a Hard Cover Manual and there was a keyboard overlay for keyboard shortcuts as well as being on 3.5" and 5.25" disks that held the program and a Windows 2 Runtime that would only run Word.

Toss in a 80286 Motherboard and my original Hard drive which was a spacious 20 Megabytes. I never managed to fill it up FWIW. back then in the DOS days files and programs were small.

Oh well, enough reminiscing, Have a Nice Day

As it turns out, my neighbor has been on vacation for 2 weeks, and he stopped by yesterday with my prescription package apologising that he was not here to return it. I thought that might have been the problem. Very nice of him to run it right over. So now I have 2 months supply. :)
My leg has been hurting since Saturday night...I think I sat too long on a hard chair, having laughs with my buddies. Then last night a piece of my tooth or a filling fell out. So today, I will try to get in to the dentist and possibly my chiropractor to see if I can get these things fixed! Hi
I did some walking, The temperature this morning was 71 on the news channel and 70 degrees on the front porch. It is cooler than yesterday.
There was some light rain when I got up, By the time I was ready to go walking wearing a rain gear jacket the Rain was gone. So Out I went and walked. It is still gloomy and probably it will be raining later today and into tomorrow morning according to the Weather forecast I watched before walking.

Heading into the evening Sunday I watched Two episodes of GoodNight Sweetheart and a Episode of 'Allo 'Allo
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goodnight_Sweetheart_(TV_series)
Goodnight Sweetheart is a British sitcom that ran for six series on BBC1 from 1993 to 1999 and a special that aired on 2 September 2016. It starred Nicholas Lyndhurst as Gary Sparrow, an accidental time traveller who leads a double life after discovering a time portal allowing him to travel between the London of the 1990s and the same area during the Second World War.

What’s the Healthiest Thing to Eat at McDonald’s?
By Elle Penner, MPH, RD June 26, 2017
With 14,155 restaurants in the United States alone, and 22,744 additional locations outside of the U.S., McDonald’s is arguably the most well-known fast-food chain in the world. And, if you’re taking a road trip, this summer it can be difficult to resist the siren call of fast-food convenience.

While known for its burgers, fries and shakes, you don’t need to blow your calorie budget on a Big Mac Extra Value Meal. These five options, at 420 calories or less, complete with ordering tips from a dietitian, can help you eat healthier the next time you find yourself under those golden arches.

    HEALTHIEST BREAKFASTS

    EGG MCMUFFIN

    Nutrition stats: 300 calories, 12g fat, 30g carbohydrate, 2g fiber, 3g sugar, 18g protein

Why it made the cut: Coming in right at 300 calories, this breakfast sandwich contains 18 grams of satiating protein and 2 grams of fiber.

Dietitian’s tip: Opting out of the processed cheese slashes 50 calories and 190 milligrams of sodium. Skipping the Canadian bacon spares you another 200 milligrams of sodium but you also lose 4 grams of protein.

FRUIT AND MAPLE OATMEAL, HOLD THE BROWN SUGAR & DRIED FRUIT
    Nutrition stats: 190 calories, 4g fat, 33g carbs, 4g fiber, 3g sugar, 6g protein
Why it made the cut: Topped with fresh apples and a splash of cream, this unsweetened oatmeal provides 4 grams of fiber and only 3 grams of sugar. At 190 calories it makes a great light breakfast or snack option.

    HEALTHIEST LUNCHES & DINNERS
BACON RANCH GRILLED CHICKEN SALAD WITH 1/2 PACKET RANCH DRESSING

SOUTHWEST GRILLED CHICKEN SALAD WITH 1/2 PACKET SOUTHWEST DRESSING, HOLD THE CILANTRO-LIME GLAZE
    Nutrition stats: 360 calories, 13g fat, 24g carbs, 5g fiber, 7g sugar, 38g protein
Why it made the cut: With 25% of your daily intake for fiber, this veggie-filled salad is the highest in fiber of all McDonald’s salads and provides plenty of satiating protein, too.

PICO GUACAMOLE GRILLED CHICKEN SANDWICH ON A SESAME SEED BUN, HOLD THE CHEESE
    Nutrition Stats: 420 calories, 14g fat, 38g carbs, 3g fiber, 7g sugar, 36g protein

Why it made the cut: At 420 calories this is a hearty, protein-packed sandwich that also brings some healthy fats to the table thanks to the guacamole topping. The lettuce and pico de gallo add a few extra veggies.

Ah Ha, I was wondering what happened to the Prescription :)

I am sorry to hear about Your Leg, I hope it clears up quickly.

I had that happen to a tooth in the past and a visit to the dentist where they built it up with Amalgam worked. I think I may have cracked it originally with my habit at that time of crunching the Popcorn Kernels that had not popped properly.

Good Luck at the Dentist and Chiro

    Good afternoon;
Vix-I hope you got to the dentist and chiropractor today. Good new about your prescription.
Roger-it is currently in the 50's here and raining, a nice change from all the humidity.
The vet called and Vinny has pancreatitis, that is why his blood sugar spiked. There is no medication for this. As he is eating and not vomiting, he said to just continue doing what we are doing. On the good side, Sophie's blood test came back a lot lower, so she has another course of the antifungal medication, then another blood test and hopefully that will be the end of it.
I went to the dermatologist and she biopsied a spot on my leg. The biopsy came back as an atypical mole, so I have an appointment this Friday to have the spot cut out.
We are all falling apart here.
    Have a good evening. :)

    Good evening.
Jo, sorry to hear about Vinny, I hope he does ok. And good that Sophie's doing well. Good luck with your mole, best to get it taken care of. I feel like I'm falling apart too.
Of course, my dentist is on vacation this week, but I now have an appt for first thing next Monday. I did get in to see the chiropractor. Apparently my joints locked up, so I need to ice and stretch my lower back and hip. I'm feeling a little better after seeing him and will go back tomorrow for an additional adjustment.
Roger, I'm just glad the tooth doesn't hurt. Hopefully an easy enough fix, will see. I think it was probably an old filling that just wore out around the edges enough to fall out.
Have a wonderful evening everyone...starting to t-storm here, so I'll be signing off. :)

Driving too much is bad for your brain
    By Laura Italiano July 23, 2017 | 12:34am
Spending a lot of time driving may actually put your brain in reverse.
A new British study found that spending more than two hours a day behind the wheel steadily lowers IQ, especially in middle-aged drivers, according to the Sunday Times of London.
Driving is physically and mentally sedentary and can cause stress and fatigue, all factors in brain decline, experts told the newspaper.
“Staying mentally and physically active helps keep our brains healthy, so it is not surprising,” researcher Rosa Sancho said.

    http://nypost.com/2017/07/23/man-ordered-to-pay-65k-in-child-support-for-kid-who-isnt-his/
Man ordered to pay $65K in child support for kid who isn’t his
A Texas man is battling a court order that mandates he must pay tens of thousands in child support for a child whom he did not biologically father and whom he met only once.
In 2003, a child support court in Texas ruled that Gabriel Cornejo, 45, had to pay child support to his ex-girlfriend, who had recently given birth, because she vowed there was no way he wasn’t the rightful dad.
Cornejo, who is currently raising three children of his own and two nephews, claimed he was not made aware of this and only found out about the child support payments last year when a deputy served him with court papers claiming that the state of Texas lists him as having another child. He soon met the minor for the first and only time — describing her as a “wonderful girl” — but after taking a DNA test, learned she was not his after all.
Only Cornejo’s ex-girlfriend and the state still want the $65,000 in back payments.
“I never thought in my whole life I would have to defend myself of something that I am innocent of,” he said.
Texas’ family code, chapter 161, states that even if one is not the biological father, they still owe support payments that accrued before the paternity test proved otherwise. In Cornejo’s case, that amounts to some $65,000.
His ex-girlfriend’s attorney, Carel Stith, claimed that money was taken out of Cornejo’s paycheck several years ago and he didn’t contest it, and that in itself can satisfy a court argument that he should have handled the matter long ago.
“There can be consequences, even if you don’t do anything,” Stith told local news.
Cornejo and his attorney, Cheryl Coleman, must now persuade a judge to reopen the case — as the original court order cannot be amended. If that doesn’t happen, he must pay up or face time behind bars.
The case is due back in court next month.

    Good afternoon;
    Hi Joanne
Poor Vinny, Is this a Severe or Chronic type?

    Good News with Sophie.

    Good Luck with the mole.

Yesterday we determined that the Oven is not baking when my brother went to bake some chicken parts :(
So I ordered a new baking element from Amazon after some research. It looks like a really easy change too. Pull one screw for each leg of the element, pull out and unplug the old one and plug in the new one.

Fixing the One shower will not be so easy. I went to change the pipe that comes out of the wall as it was leaking where the diverter valve attaches between it and the shower head and the hand wand. So what happened it was also corroded where it attached in the wall, I should have realized that. Now I need to think how I want to try and fix it.

We are all falling apart in one way or another. The natural progression of life IME.

    Have a Good Day

    Hi Vix
Joints can lock up? I did know a driver that was having trouble lowering and raising the truck window. Finally it got to painful so he went to the doctor. It was determined that there was a build up in the joint. A injection that dissolved the build up and no more pain.

We were on the fringe of a Thunderstorm yesterday evening as I could see lightning in the distance and eventually hear the thunder.

    Was this anywhere near You?

Weather Service confirms Eastern Shore tornado — EF-2 with 125-mph winds

The National Weather Service confirmed Monday afternoon that an EF-2 tornado rolled through the Eastern Shore around 1:30 a.m. Monday morning. Along with the damage residents woke up to Monday morning, the National Weather Service confirmed one injury to a person “punctured by debris.”

Monday morning’s tornado, which touched down in Stevensville, Md., produced winds up to 125 mph, was the first EF-2 on the Eastern Shore since May 5, 2002.

    Good afternoon;
Roger-I am not sure what type it is. It seems to go along with the diabetes. He has had it once before and it went away on its own. I am assuming you have an electric stove? Good luck fixing the pipe.
Vix-I am glad the chiropractor unlocked your joints. Good luck with the dentist on Monday.

    Hi all,
The tornado was not near us. The Eastern Shore is basically on the ocean, and we're in Central Maryland. whew.
My joints are still tight...I have to do some more icing and stretching. Chiro is on vacay for the rest of the week, and I will go back on Monday.
Roger, sounds like you have hard water that may be corroding your pipes. We had that in our last house. Had I known better, I would have put on a whole house water filter.
    Have a good evening, everyone.

How eating a big breakfast helps you lose weight, according to science
Posted Sunday 23 July 2017 13:00 by Joe Vesey-Byrne in discover
Breakfast foods are the best foods, as anyone who has ever had cereal for an evening meal will testify.
    Same goes for night toast.
New research from a seven year study suggests making breakfast your biggest meal of the day, is the key to a healthier weight.
More than 50,000 study participants over the age of 30 from the US and Canada were monitored in health surveys. The data was then analyzed by researchers at Loma Linda University, California.
The study found that not skipping breakfast, and having a larger meal at breakfast time, were associated with a decrease in Body Mass Index.
The significant decrease was relative to those who had dinner as the largest meal of the day.
It's worth stating that BMI is by no means the best measure of weight, or healthiness, but other studies have suggested that skipping meals is bad for your waistline and your health.
Nevertheless the large breakfast would suggest a person is less likely to snack between meals, and stick to a proper meal plan.
The study also found a link between meal timings and a decrease in BMI.
It concluded that proper fasts between meal times, such as five to six hours between breakfast and lunch, and 18 hours between dinner and the following breakfast, would help decrease BMI.
Its findings were published in the Journal of Nutrition.

This one was interesting, I just do not know.

Revealed: Whopping 73 Percent of CBO's 'Lost Coverage' Estimate Comes From Individual Mandate Repeal
Guy Benson Posted: Jul 24, 2017 10:25 AM
Conservative healthcare policy wonk Avik Roy, a strong supporter of the imperiled Senate healthcare bill, wrote an eye-opening analysis over the weekend. He examined and applied leaked data in order to demonstrate how the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office would score any GOP Obamacare replacement bill as "denying" coverage to at least 16 million Americans. That's due to CBO's fanatical belief in the power of the existing law's individual mandate tax, an article of faith to which they've clung, despite hard contradictory evidence. For the first time, Roy is able to reveal exactly how heavily -- and dubiously -- CBO leans on the strength the individual mandate in producing its coverage numbers. This is vitally important context for the current healthcare debate, both in terms of swatting down Democrats' favorite attack line, as well addressing as moderate Republicans' top hesitancy. He begins by noting the bizarre stability of Congressional bookkeepers' "lost" coverage figures, no matter how vastly various Republican-backed 'repeal and replace' measures may differ:

In the national debate over the GOP health reform proposals, one data point has stood out above all others: the estimate, from the Congressional Budget Office, that more than 20 million people would “lose” coverage as a result. And there’s been an odd consistency to the CBO’s projections. Do you want to repeal every word of Obamacare and replace it with nothing? CBO says 22 million fewer people would have health insurance. Do you prefer replacing Obamacare with a system of flat tax credits, in which you get the same amount of assistance regardless of your financial need? CBO says 23 million fewer people would have health insurance. Do you prefer replacing Obamacare with means-tested tax credits, like the Senate bill does, in which the majority of the assistance is directed to those near or below the poverty line? CBO says 22 million fewer people would have health insurance. 22 million, 23 million, 22 million—these numbers are remarkably similar even though the three policies I describe above are significantly different. Why is that?

It should be noted that CBO's score of a repeal-only measure under which Obamacare's regulations remained in place pegged this number significantly higher, at 32 million. Roy goes on to use previously-unpublished data to highlight precisely how individual-mandate-centric (and therefore unreliable) CBO's coverage calculations are:

Thanks to information that was leaked to me by a congressional staffer, we now have the answer. Nearly three-fourths of the difference in coverage between Obamacare and the various GOP plans derives from a single feature of the Republican bills: their repeal of Obamacare’s individual mandate. But the CBO has never published a year-by-year breakout of the impact of the individual mandate on its coverage estimates. But CBO has developed its own estimates of that impact, during work it did last December to estimate the effects of repealing the individual mandate as a standalone measure. Based on those estimates, of the 22 million fewer people who will have health insurance in 2026 under the Senate bill, 16 million will voluntarily drop out of the market because they will no longer face a financial penalty for doing so: 73 percent of the total. As you can see in the above chart, two factors—repealing Obamacare’s individual mandate and the CBO’s outdated March 2016 baseline—explain nearly all of the CBO-scored coverage difference between GOP bills and Obamacare.

    gRcaoC.png

Those blue lines merely remind us of how strikingly inaccurate CBO's original expectations were. The red line is the "outdated baseline" that they are still using to score Republican legislation, despite the light green line, representing real-life sign-ups. Just consider the 2017 data points alone: Three years ago, CBO anticipated that Obamacare would enroll 24 million consumers on the exchanges this year. Last year, that estimate had fallen to 15 million. The real number? 10.3 million and falling, quite likely dipping to around nine million by the end of this year. That's a six million person misfire that's built into CBO's analysis of the GOP bills. That's indefensible.

    Hi Irene.
    Have a good evening. :)

    Hi Joanne
Actually we have a Electric Oven and a Gas Stove. Thus we were still able to heat water for coffee and cook foods when the power was out for over a week due to Superstorm Sandy.

I think I will order a Easyout for that size from Amazon. The Parts for my brothers F150 arrived Yesterday. However the 3rd thing happened. The Lock for the spare tire does not accept the Ignition key as the owners manual says it should. That Ignition key works the Doors and Tailgate lock so We do not know why it does not work in the 4th lock :(

    Thank You for the Information
