    Hi all.
Quinoa is a grain. It is gluten free and has a relatively high amount of protein. You can eat it at any meal, can add savory or sweet to it. I like it for breakfast as an alternative to oatmeal or cream of wheat.
I started a stained glass class today. I'm making a small tree ornament for the holidays. I've cut all the glass pieces...next week I will grind the edges and maybe start on the next step.
It was chilly here today too.

And yet more humor, Mostly Humor anyway

    Hi
I was out doing some walking this Morning + 3 cents. The temperature this morning was 42 degrees on the porch and 45 degrees on the cable channel.
While I was walking I noticed two deer heading across the street until they saw me on the side they were headed for. At that point they stopped in the middle of the street which stopped a car that had just turned onto the street until they reversed direction and headed back the way they had come :)

    Hi Vix
I do have a bag of Quinoa in the cupboard unopened, My brother heard me muttering to myself I wonder what it tastes like and brought a bag home :)

Oatmeal now that You mentioned it sounds like a great idea for breakfast, especially while the house warms up from 62 degrees that it was at this morning.

That sounds like a project. Is the glass going to be glued together or are you going to use lead as in a lead glass window?

Another day of running around today. I'll have to leave painting class early to get to the perio so he can take the stitches out. Then I'm going to stop by my regular dentist and see if they can adjust my night guard. Later in the afternoon I have a follow up with the rheumatologist.

    Hi Vix
Looking at the new Dinner Entrees I will try one each of the Chipotle Bowls as I am not a fan of heat in my food and want to test them. I will also order one of the Shrimp and Chicken Stir fry to try and since I don't eat Shrimp I will palm those off on my Brother since he does eat them. I did something similar with the Last Pu Pu Platter I picked up. I also noticed that the So Called Jumbo Shrimp in it were mostly breading and tiny shrimp. The description lied IOWs :(

I know You are happy that the stitches are coming out. Is the night guard to prevent grinding of Your teeth in Your sleep ?

    Good Luck with the Rheumatologist

    Hi
I have dried sweet corn from the garden, I let it go to long on the plant and have had this in the past when I was a mere sprat, I plan to do this recipe from here as it is what I remember from when I was growing up:
    http://www.wilderness-survival.net/forums/showthread.php?1659-Parched-Corn-Recipe
    Things You'll Need:
    Corn
    Skillet
Butter, lard, oil or cooking spray
    Spoon
    Paper towel
    Cloth or plastic bags
Dry the corn. The primary ingredient of parched corn is dried corn. To dry fresh corn on the cob, hang it in a dry area of your home and allow it to dry out naturally. Frozen corn can be dried in a dehydrator or spread on a cookie sheet and placed in an oven set at 150 degrees. Leave the oven door open a little. This method can take a few hours and the corn should be turned occasionally to prevent burning.
Oil the skillet. Add a small amount of butter, lard or oil to a skillet. Cooking spray can also be used. Heat the oil on a low temperature. Wipe the frying pan with paper towel to remove any excess oil. Only a thin coating should remain on the bottom of the pan.
Pour the corn in the skillet. Add enough dry corn to the skillet to just about cover the bottom. The actual amount will depend on the size of the skillet.
Cook the corn. Allow the corn to cook slowly. Stir the dried corn constantly to prevent burning. I sometimes add crushed red peppers or other spices at this time for a different taste. The parched corn is done when the kernels have swollen, and turned a medium brown. A few of the kernels may explode, just like popcorn.
Drain the corn. Pour the parched corn onto some paper towel and allow to thoroughly drain and cool. Turn the corn a couple of times to ensure that all excess oil is absorbed. Store the parched corn. Place the parched corn in a cloth, my favorite a hide bag (it soaks up any extra oil) or plastic bag for storage. A small bag of parched corn will be enough for your next day of hiking.

Has anyone here done something like that ?
I remember it tasting better than the commercially sold corn nuts FWIW.

    Hi Irene
The weather is good for walking IMO.

I hate painting, I always seem to get paint on myself and my clothes :(

From the reviews the Chipotle Bowls ARE hot and I may be palming them off on my brother after one bite, as he does not mind heat, I did that with the Black Bean Polenta Enchilada with White Meat Chicken.
I do like the Southwest Fiesta Melt and You would think that is too hot too. However I plan on ordering one of each of the new foods for testing as I would hate to miss something I like :)

FWIW I do not order the BBQ Seasoned Chicken due to price considering that the Sweet BBQ Sauce with Pulled-Style Pork lunch is cheaper and hence a better value and similar in taste.

Congratulations on the weight loss and being near goal

    Hi Irene
I do take three different tablets as supplements, a Multi-vitamin a three mineral to help prevent leg cramps and Vitamin C. I'm curious if You or the others take supplements ?
I figure nutritionally I should be OK with those, An Apple a Day, Citrus and a Banana Daily as well as 12 ounces of frozen vegetables and extra protein per the NS diet plan :)

OK for the Pork Dinner I can live with as a additional entree for variety, Too hot I can not handle however.

Thank You for the feedback on the Pork dinner.

    Hi Joanne
I look at the Parched Sweet Corn as a type of corn nut. I believe they are tastier as it is my impression that the Commercial Corn Nuts are more of a animal feed type of corn due to cost.

I love Oatmeal Raisin cookies fresh from the oven and still warm. I have been known to take the NS cookies and Popcorns and microwave them to freshen the taste up BTW.

I also love a Good Apple Pie, sadly most of what You can buy, the Apples are Crunchy. As someone that learned to love my Grandmothers Homemade Apple Pie that she made using Apples that she had canned from their trees I prefer them softer. She also made Cherry Pies and Peach Pies from the same source.

keep up the Good work baking

    Good morning.
Thanks, Roger. Laurel is just south of Baltimore. I have friends who live there. I'm about 25-30 miles west of Baltimore. So close, but not too close.
My Mom used to make apple pies with fresh apples, and dough that tasted like vanilla cookies.
They were yummy. I don't mind the apples a little less soft.
Jo, I'm sure you're excited about tomorrow. And in case you're too busy to be here:

Vix-thank you for the birthday wishes. Congratulations on the new car. Have a wonderful time at the wedding.
Roger-good tip on heating the NS snacks. I would never have thought of that. I do not take any vitamin supplements. The only medication that I take is Ibuprofen for occasional aches and pains.
The oatmeal raisin cookies that I made yesterday are half gone. Every time hubby went by the canister he has a few. :) I may have to make another batch.

    Good morning;
    Have a great Sunday!
    Hi Joanne
    Happy Birthday

I found that heating can change the taste and texture. The Chocolate in the Cookies gets melted and Yummy :)

It does sound as if the cookies were a success.

    Have a Great Birthday

Unexpectedly busy today. Went for a walk in the park, and to a pumpkin patch with my son and his girl friend. Got an alert on one of our credit cards, so we had to call. They are cancelling the card and will send us a new one.
Have fun with your family, Jo...I'm sure you had a happy birthday! :)
Roger, I take lots of supplements. My diet is limited and there are certain vitamins are helpful.
Have a good night, everyone. :)

    Hi
I was out doing some walking this Morning. The temperature this morning was in the 59 on the porch and in the low 65 on the cable channel and felt more humid as well a lot warmer than yesterday.

    Hi Vix
I'm sorry to hear that You have to get a new credit card. Did they happen to say where they caught it and if they know the source of the data used?

I have noticed that a lot of the So called Pumpkin Patches seem to show that someone bought a load of Pumpkins and placed them on a plot of land Vs growing them there.

I figure if my body does not need a supplement it will pass it out. I know that some of them have helped me to avoid leg cramps in the night. Those used to wake me up and having to massage them out before I could stand up or get back to sleep.

    Have a Nice Day
