People who come up with those weird combo desserts have too much time on their hands.0

Pam - great job on the party - and showing up at the library! One of my friends and I often ruminate about the fact that we treat our "volunteer gig" as a responsibility and so many other people don't.
Jean - yuk vote on the cake (and I love cake; not as crazy about most pies, at least not without a la mode)!!
Helene - I've heard about those trains. I can't even imagine.
I can hear guns/fireworks outside. DH and I always look at each other in amazement when the guns go off. I always thought it was a recipe for disaster but had never heard anything about it. Just read an article on CNN today. It's called "celebratory gunfire". And yes, it does injure and kill people but they almost never know who did it. VA just passed a law making it a felony after a 7-year old was killed. Mostly symbolic I guess since they admit that usually they don't know who did it - and the person who did it never knows they injured or killed anyone. What idiot doesn't know the bullet has to come down? (rhetorical question; I know there are a lot of idiots in the world)
I got a message from Jack's internist. The pathologist couldn't come to any definitive conclusions with what they managed to get from the lump with a needle. She wants him back for a CT scan and biopsy. So the uncertainty continues.0 -
Maryanne--Sorry you didn't get a definite ruling on Jack's biopsy. Uncertainty is not what we wanted.
Quiet day here; we don't do anything here. It is just another day unless you travel to the festivities.0 -
A very quiet day. I started the day with the Quaker Weight Control oatmeal with the ground flax seed added. I was so full that I didn't indulge in my mid-morning snack of the Dannon Light and Fit Greek Yogurt. For lunch, I will have a Progresso Light soup.
I will be seeing some friends for dinner in the city tomorrow, so I hope to spend this quiet day getting some things ready to go to the donation center.0 -
Updating my Garmin in case I decide to go somewhere with my life.0

We're seeing fireworks tonight and tomorrow with different sets of friends. DH loves fireworks. I enjoy them but he really loves them.0

Updating my Garmin in case I decide to go somewhere with my life.
Good one! I haven't used my unit in ages. I tried it out once on a semi local jaunt. Got to somewhere that the road was blocked and no matter what I did I couldn't get it to find me a new route home. Decided I'd rather have maps any day and put it in a drawer.
I heard noise outside several times last night. I'm sure some was fireworks and some was guns. Stupid people. Had the cats all atwitter.
I'm hoping to get some work done today. I ate way too much this week to have high hopes for a weigh in tomorrow morning!

Maryanne--I really like my Garmin. I use it primarily out of state. I like it for another purpose and that is in case of a need to call services in area in which everything looks the same in a wooded rural area. At least, I can give them the closest reference point according to the Garmin or the exact position according to longitude and latitude, etc. 50 miles of wooded areas with no definite signs that you can notice is an iffy situation.
I'm watching the 21 Day Fix infomercial. We have had some teachers on that who have lost an amazing amount of weight...and some didn't do the exercise portion.0 -
We use or Garmin quite a bit when going to new places. And when driving south, I like to see what our ETA at our nightly stops. We got the traffic enabled version that tries to find an alternate route in case of tie ups. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I've had 3-4 days where I've eaten out and not been on program. I've watched portions though and my weight has thankfully stayed the same. With all that's going on this week, I wasn't expecting a loss and will be happy to stay put. I'll be looking to get back on track on Monday.0
-
I went to the city yesterday to have dinner at the Outback with a friend and my niece. I had the tilapia with crabmeat. Oh, it was so, so good!!
Helene--I also like watching the ETA on the Garmin. It is amazing how much a "short" stop can affect the ETA. I have to stop and walk about every two hours. Good job on watching the portions when eating out.0 -
I wonder if I can get my act together enough to invite my crab eating friends out for crabs again this summer. I feel so behind in every part of my life except work. No excuse really!
My best friend's mother just went into hospice and is expected to "die shortly". That must be so horrible.
I need to call and get an appointment for Jack at the internist. Another fun trip to Virginia! At least I discovered last week that there's no major construction on the route this summer. Thank heavens for small favors.
Another volunteer and I spent all kinds of time last week on an app for Bertha. We desperately need to place her (vet wants her out of the adoption cage) and we were so excited about this app. But turned out that even though the woman listed a vet that vet had never seen one of her cats, hadn't seen her mom's cats (her mom lives with her) since 2007 and her cats go out. I still don't think I've got the story on the vet situation but I surely did invest a lot of time. Wasted time is more like it.
I'm off today for my annual CT scan of my lungs (to monitor the nodules in my lungs). Such fun!0 -
At least you discovered that woman wasn't taking care of the cats she has before you placed Bertha with her. I admire how through you are about checking into the home situation before finding a forever home for the cats. I'm sorry to hear about your friend's mom but I'm glad they brought in Hospice to help everyone through it.
jean...The talapia sound delicious. Our local Outback is now a Mexican restaurant so I'm only near an Outback now when traveling.0 -
I guess the upside to Alzheimer's is her mom has no clue what's going on. But that makes it hard on the family. I think my friends actually envy the fact that my mom died suddenly.
For some reason I'm totally wrapped up in the Debra Webb Faces of Evil series. I usually hate this kind of series where there's a story that runs all through the (so far) 11 books. In a way it's like picking up a 3000+ page book. But this is a little different (or seems that way). Each book has a story of its own. And each is only a few days. I have no idea how the characters aren't totally losing it, one disastrous crime follows days after the last, with an overarching serial killer threat, but it's got my attention.
I had my CT scan this morning. That surely is one of the world's easier tests. If you have to have a test, this is one to have! LOL!0 -
I didn't feel like making dinner tonight or going out for take out either. I had a gluten free flat bread so I decided to make it into a veggie pizza. I had a had of tomato sauce. I put a couple of tablespoons of sauce on the flatbread, next time, I'd had a jar of pizza sauce in the house. The tomato sauce worked but it was on the thin side. I added green peppers, chopped onion and slice of summer squash. I topped the pizza with some shredded Mozzarella cheese. My toaster oven has a pizza setting so I used that. It came out pretty good and it required minimal effort. So far my day has come in just over 1,000 calories.0

Another exciting day awaits! NOT!
Maryanne--A CT scan is easy unless you have to drink the yucky stuff for it. Drink a bottle one hour in advance and then drink another bottle just before the scan. I finished my series of mystery/psychological thrillers featuring the same character. I really enjoyed it. I'm now in the midst of a novel that is almost like a Stephen King novel. The only thing to do around here is to leave town or read.
Helene--The pizza sounds good. Sometimes that is an easy approach and is a healthy approach.
Off to eat the usual breakfast...either the oatmeal or the breakfast sandwich. I don't want anything that requires time to fix or cook. Those days are gone.0 -
DH decided he wanted chicken corn soup with the leftover corn on the cob so that's what he got. Except I only had turkey broth here so it was turkey broth but chicken pieces. And corn and diced potatoes (from a can) and noodles (I didn't have pot pie noodles so used regular noodles). I'm sure my mother and my grandmother are turning over in their graves but it's easy.
The beans seem to be almost over - thank goodness! I can't wait for the tomatoes to start and the eastern shore cantaloupes to get here.
My late MIL always lamented she hadn't lived in pioneer times. I would have made SUCH a bad pioneer. For starters I can't imagine living in Maryland without air conditioning. For a long time I thought I belonged in a future world but now the future is looking sort of dire (climate change) so I'm thinking present is just fine.
Jean - I never had a CT scan where you had to drink anything. I did have the heart CT scan where they ran something through an IV into me and darned near killed me. The cardiologist thought I was allergic to the "contrast". I, OTOH, think they just gave me too much beta blocker. I guess not knowing which is true could be problematic if I have have to have a CT with contrast again. I did, for the first time ever, see them bring large cups of something to two different people in the waiting room. I never saw that before.
I don't know what's going on with all these places any more. My last two appointments I wasn't even "checked in" before my appointment time even though I always arrive WAY in advance.0 -
Maryanne--When I had the CT scan as part of the screening for what was happening with the bladder issue, I had to drink the stuff so it would permeate all the tissues of the system and provide a better contrast, etc. I guess some tissues will take up the stuff more than others which makes it easier to identify growths, tumors, etc. The places I go to for appointments have a sign up saying that if you have not been "processed" within 15 minutes of signing in, to please check in at the window again. It amazes me how much on time these specialist appointments have been.
I don't think I would be a good pioneer either. I remember when my mother developed a heart issue, I bought a window AC for her to use and make her more comfortable. She refused to use it.
I took 2 of the Diet Direct pancake mixes and added 1/2 cup of water and mixed it to make muffins. This will make six muffins. It is just a different way of eating it, and you could add some flavorings or other items to the muffin mix before baking.0 -
So far, I've made it to 66 years without any scans of any kind. I hope to keep it that way as long as possible. Well, my scale went up this morning. I'm hoping it was fluid retention but who knows. Anyway, I'm back on program as of yesterday and I don't have any events involving food anytime soon.0

I have always said I hope to die without being in the hospital but the endocrinologist may put a crimp in that plan.
I've had x-rays for more than a few broken bones, CT scans of my lungs, CT scans of my heart, bone density tests, ultrasounds of my thyroid, ultrasounds of my heart, scans of my optic nerve, scans of my retinas, mammograms, and probably some scans I'm not thinking of. It seems to be never ending. The good news is they are mostly noninvasive.0 -
Ohio Valley Surgical just called to go over medical info before the Monday procedure. They will call on Friday with the time I have to be there. This is a routine scope procedure to double check that the bladder cancer had not returned. This will be fun as they will use only a local this time and not the twilight anesthesia.0
-
Jean...I'm saying a prayer that all goes well Monday. Is it out patient?
I hit 50 days of logging today. That's a new high for me.0 -
Good morning, everyone. It is another rainy day which I started with the Kellogg's Special K breakfast sandwich.
Helene--Congrats upon the consecutive days of logging. The procedure is outpatient and this time they are not using twilight anesthesia but applying a topical numbing gel before inserting the scope.0 -
Most of the weight I gained last week from too many days of events was gone this morning. I'm sure some of it was fluid. I went back on program Monday morning so I should start going down for real next week. Breakfast today was half of a JD cheese omelet and a a Garden Lite muffin for 265 calories. I try to keep breakfast and lunch around 300 calories.0

I had the best of plans for food today but ended up with one "emergency" after another and eating whatever was quick. Never the best choices. These imaginary "emergencies" are the pits. I used to have a plaque that said "Lack of planning on your part does not equal an emergency on my part." SO true!0
-
Someone who worked for me had the same motto. Under the circumstances you did the best you could. Some days are like that.0
-
Another rainy day. There was a picture on Facebook of a skeleton looking through the blinds on a window. The caption said, "Waiting for a sunny day." Then there was another one that said, "Enough waiting; I'm going to mow." The picture showed a man on his riding lawn mower which was tackling a flooded lawn.
I haven't been the best with food but maintaining. I think I will do better once all this medical, etc. stuff is past tense. Yesterday, I spent all day at the dental practice as I needed a new denture and they take several fittings during the day. There is something special that needs to be done so I'll go back in three weeks. Today, I'll be waiting for the Surgical Center to call with the time for the Monday procedure to see if the bladder cancer is returning. The doc doesn't think so but there is a requirement that the bladder be checked at a 3 month time interval.0 -
It's understandable that you need to concentrate on just maintaining during all the medical issues. The stress of waiting for tests overshadows everything else. Get through it the best you can and then start anew. Good luck for Monday. It's good that your doctor is being proactive with frequent testing.0
-
Jean - best of luck on Monday. Here's hoping your doc is right and there's nothing at all there.
My CT scan showed no growth in the lung nodules but did show the growth in the one thyroid nodule that my endocrinologist also found on ultrasound. I have that biopsy on the 24th. I guess she's working me in as I had only two choices and both were noon on a Friday.
Monday I take Jack to VA. He's having a CT scan and biopsy on Tuesday.
So much medical "stuff".0 -
Happy Saturday everyone. it's a beautiful day here in the 70s with not too much humidity. I don't have anything special on the schedule. How about you?0
-
Maryanne--I do hope the biopsy is negative for you and also for Jack.
Helene--Another boring, rain filled day filled with reading.
This says it all as this is getting very old.
