I don't think you cook it. The liquid will soften and rehydrate the oatmeal overnight. At least, I think that how it works.

Our Outback was one of those that was only open for dinner. I'm sure that helped to do them in. We're in a tourist area and people staying in hotels for vacation go out for lunch. I'm still taking it easy after the dental surgery. My jaw has lingering beyond what I expected. I guess it's because the tooth was so hard to get out. I had to switch to the prescription pain meds. The OTC versions weren't lasting long enough. It's a dull ache if I don't stick tot he schedule. And I've been sticking to soft foods since I'm supposed to avoid chewing on the left side.

You'd think they would include that detail! LOL!!!

Helene - I'm so sorry you're still hurting. DH decided he didn't need pain meds after his dental surgery Monday but of course, being DH, he'll fill the prescription anyway. I can only imagine what all old prescription meds we'd find if we excavated the contents of this house. LOL!

Maryanne--I have no idea. I copied the recipe as NS posted it. I haven't used the NS oatmeal but if it doesn't call for cooking, then I guess you don't. What is cooking?

I ran across a recipe for easy to fix chicken manicotti that does not require you to cook the shells in advance. The way you fix the recipe and stick in the fridge for 24 hours softens up the manicotti shells before baking.

I have always wanted to be taller. But I don't get the big lips thing. LOL!

Taller would work for me also since I have lost a few inches. Where's the coffee? I need some!!! I might indulge in a movie today depending upon how the day unfolds. In the meantime, my usual Quaker Weight Control oatmeal awaits.

    Protein Parfait

Place 1 cup of plain lowfat Greek yogurt in the bottom of a glass or Mason jar. Layer with 1 cup berries, 1/4 cup walnuts, and 1/4 whole grain cereal for a 500 calorie parfait that also provides 31 grams of satisfying protein.

Do half the recipe for 250 calories.

Yeah, amongst the many things they never tell you as a kid is that you'll lose inches.

I haven't heard back about my biopsy. The endocrinologist is on vacation this week. Somebody else was supposedly keeping track of her biopsies "so you won't have to wait" but so far, nada. I have been able to sign on to both the hospital portal and the endocrinologist practice portal but doesn't look like these docs are very good at posting on either. Not just this test but anything else. So much for finding my passwords!

I'm still eating tomatoes like crazy!

Maryanne---sorry about the wait on the biopsy results. As they say, "no news is good news." Waiting isn't easy, however.

How many ways are you fixing tomatoes now?

Last night for dinner I tried tomatoes stuffed with seafood salad. DH carefully scraped the seafood salad out, cut the tomato in half, walked the half to the refrigerator and then proceeded to eat the rest. LOL!

For lunch I usually have a huge bowl of cherry tomatoes with a small serving of tuna salad or chicken salad.

Tonight for dinner I think I'll try boiling some.

I don't have any tomatoes on hand right now. I have an urge for some nice ripe bananas. They are hard to find locally. They are either green or black in places. Yuck!

Maryanne..I laughed when I read about DH scrapping out the seafood salad. I guess he really is a meat and potatoes man. I would have loved your dinner.
Jean...That was an interesting list of staples to have on hand. I was surprised white potatoes were on there. They tend to get a bad rap. Personally I love potatoes.
I'm back on losing track again. I got set back by eating out 3 days in a week. That's the problem when special events all pile up together. I'm down a pound this mouth and 10 pounds sicne I started logging 75 days ago.

Helene--Congrats upon the weight loss. You are doing a great job. I confess I have lost the motivation I had before going for the cardiac ablation. I just don't seem to regain it and I'm feeling hungry all the time. I guess it isn't hunger but appetite and the fun of sitting around here and not working.

Jean..It's tough to get the motivation back but it can be done. I went through that when my knee was hurting. I didn't get it back until felt better and started having some success. As far as the hunger, can you eat more frequently with things like carrot and celery stick with a little dressing to dip them in or string cheese? I'm sure it's from the meds but having more frequent low cal snacks might get it in check.

Helene--I eat about every two hour. String cheese doesn't work; there isn't enough protein. For the calories involved, Light and Fit Greek yogurt has more protein and is more satisfying. I also think it is boredom, and I have tried drinking water. That doesn't do the trick. Thanks for the suggestions.

I cannot have peanut butter in the house. I can eat a jar in a week without blinking.

Great job on your efforts Helene!

Jean - I'm in the downside with you. Just have been eating whatever I want lately. I just can't do that. I think there's a stress issue and a boredom issue.

Hello everyone. I didn't mean to disappear, but the past ten days were very busy for me and I didn't even look at my email or on-line for a few of them. MIL is now settled in her new assisted living facility and my house is mostly put back to its normal state now, so that's a relief for me. I don't like having furniture out of place and extra stuff sitting around. There's more than enough normal clutter without adding any more to the mix, lol!

DH and MIL left on Wednesday and on Thursday my sister picked me up and we went to visit one of our cousins who recently remarried. She wanted us to come and visit, meet her new husband, and help her make some decisions about decorating her new home. They live about two hours away from me. We really had a good time on this trip, and the new husband is a real sweetheart. They live outside of town on about 10 acres and my cousin loves it because she is able to have animals there. Currently they have two cats, four dogs, two adult llamas and a baby llama, three lambs, chickens, and around eight or ten cows. She also has a big garden and sent us home with as much cantaloupe and veggies as we would take. We spent all day Friday shopping for their home, buying new comforters and drapery. When she texted him that afternoon and told him what she had bought, his reply was "Thank you for making our house a home." I got home yesterday afternoon and just relaxed for the rest of the day. I was tired after all the shopping and not sleeping well for the last couple of weeks. I'm still tired, but hopefully will start to get caught up on rest soon.

Pam...I'm glad everything worked out with getting MIL settled. Hopefully she'll like her new home and neighbors. Y Your visit to your cousin sounded fun and a nice break from routine. You weren't kidding about her liking animals. She has a mini farm going on there. It's nice that the new husband is a good guy. Once you get rested up,you'll get back to your routine of volunteering and exercising again.

Jean and Maryanne...I'm sure boredom and stress play a part is noshing. I know it does for me. Maryanne is probably still adjusting to having DH around more and the crisis with the cats has added. And jean's health issues have the same effect. Hang in there. Things will get better. Just make the best choices you can for now. Jean will be back to work in a few weeks and I know bored at school.

My jaw pain is gone and I'm off all the meds. I have a little gum sensitivity but I think it's from stitches. If I still have it mid week, I'll call the dentist and ask how long it takes the stitches to dissolve. My jaw was so sore the day I had the extraction that I never thought to ask about the stitches. I just remember him saying they'll dissolve.

On the subject of trigger foods, potato chips is to me as peanut butter is to Maryanne. But it would probably only take 2 days to munch through a family sized bag.

Pam - I wish DH would grow cantaloupes - that would be SO cool! But all previous attempts to grow melons of any kind were a disaster. That is a heck of a lot of animals. My best friend has cats, chickens and bees and I thought that was a lot.

Helene - I'm glad your mouth is feeling better!

Jean - don't know what it will take to get us motivated!

What will it take to get me motivated? It has to come from within. I do know that I have an NS shipment coming this week. The shelf stable selection is getting more limited. I can't believe the veggie lasagna is in limited quantities. I love that thing!

Helene--I don't think I will be bored at school but with physical limitations, this watching Netflix and TV for entertainment for the majority of the day is getting old as I can't work for long at a time. I just lifted a box to take to the car for donation and had to stop and take some things out and then bring them to the car separately.

Pam--I'm glad you have MIL settled in; this should give more stability to everyone's life. It is great that you were able to enjoy a visit with the cousin and then bring home some goodies. I think you will catch up with the rest now that you are home in a more normal routine.

I bought a box of Cheerios protein cereal to have for breakfast this week. Along with 1/2 a banana. I guess you can tell I go back a LONG ways with NS - to the 1/2 a banana days.

The shelf stable selections at NS are nothing to write home about. I'm not even crazy about most of the frozen food I've tried. In addition there hasn't been any JC food on ebay all of 2015 except some cereal someone has that's past it expiration date. I guess it's a discontinued flavor. But I've still got a ton of food here - just need to talk myself into eating it!

I used to buy smaller bananas because I didn't like having that half banana left over for another meal. I'm of the same vintage as you. I have an order delayed until September but I'm thinking of going a la carte. Like Jean, I like less of the choices and so many things I liked were discontinued. And I like to cook some of my own meals so I end up with too much food left over. I really have a lot of desserts left over because I don't like many of them at all anymore. I have time to think it over before my next order is due.

My least favorite NS meals are the breakfasts. I'm trying to think if there are any I like any more. The muffins and the cinnamon buns taste okay but are way too many calories for the protein content.

Biopsy report is back. They didn't see any cancer cells in the sample BUT didn't have enough cells to declare anything official. Endocrinologist gave me two choices: redo the biopsy or an ultrasound in a couple months. Since she said both are okay with her I of course opted for the ultrasound. Noninvasive - that's my middle name!

Maryanne...I think I'd chose the same option you did. as long as nothing showed up in the biopsy, I'd be okay with ultrasound and frequent rechecks.

Maryanne--The ultrasound is a good option and non-invasive as you said. I like the muffins but I think with the coming order, I'm going to use them as a dessert and stick with the Quaker Weight Control oatmeal or other cereal.

Helen--I have a problem with the NS desserts as I like them too much. I think I have narrowed it down to some cookies that don't trigger a desire to eat them all at once. I think it is the white chocolate or something like that. They are several small cookies in a bag.

I just got back from the primary doctor. All is good from his viewpoint; I just check in with him every three months. Next week is the cardiology appointment.

We have a cat show this weekend. I loaded Bonnie on Tuesday and will load me today. Tomorrow we set up - me, Bonnie and Fran. I have 3 people covering Saturday and then Bonnie, Fran and I will do Sunday. We have a huge space for this one so we have our work cut out for us! At least it's exercise!!

Maryanne--This has definitely been a short Summer. I had my cardiac ablation before school was out; then the weather was lousy. It is just now getting to feel like Summer just as we head back to school. Six weeks flew by or seven to eight for me as I just work when called! Right now, I don't have an overwhelming urge to get back to work as there is too much to do here....stuff I'm just now feeling like doing. Today, it is pouring the rain. Enjoy the cat show and the exercise!!
