I can't believe how much rain you keen getting. I'd feel like I needed an ark if we got that much. The weatherman predicted heavy rains on Friday but they mostly passed us by. It was obvious we had showers overnight but nothing drastic. And it was nice during the day. Did you have oatmeal today? I did a toasted bagel thin with avocado spread on it. Yum.

It didn't rain this afternoon so the sun peaked out. Still not July temps. I had the Special K flatbread sandwich for breakfast, Greek yogurt for mid morning snack and a Pure Protein bar for lunch. Not in mood to prepare anything.

I guess the rain is staying down your way, Jean. It hasn't been too bad an early summer here!

I spent the day working on a work project.

Tomorrow my big project is counting out the next mailing into boxes for volunteers to pick up to assemble. It's a job I hate. I get bored and miscount. All the time! But it has to be done.

Maryanne--You are welcome to the rain. The summer is definitely rainy and very cool. I used to do bulk mailing, organizing by zip codes, etc. When it involved over a 1,000 it was a bit tiring.

The forecast for the coming week:

The local rivers are running high, muddy and swift. They will remain below flood stage. Still not good for boating into next week!

Saturday night: A dry night. Still mild and humid. Patchy fog overnight. Lows in the mid to upper 60s.

Sunday: Partly sunny, warm and humid. A chance for a shower and thunderstorm. Highs 80-85 degrees.

Sunday night: Shower and thunderstorm risk. Mostly cloudy. Lows in the 60s.

Periods of showers and thunderstorms Monday into Wednesday will renew the severe weather and flash flood threat! Highs in the 80s and lows 65-70 degrees.

The Weather Channel blurb says we have a 60% chance of rain tomorrow, which is lower than the prior days so that means there is a chance for a few hours of sunshine....or at least no rain.

Morning, everyone! I've had the Quaker Weight Control oatmeal with ground flax seed added and now, I'm having my mid-morning Dannon Light and Fit Greek yogurt with ground flax seed added. The ground flax seed will add about 70 calories a day but it is filled with omega 3 and fiber, both of which I need.

The blog on this site is filled with great stuff, including recipes.

I've never checked out the bogs. I'll give it a look. I had my half JD omelet and a Garden Lite carrot berry muffin. I love starting my days off with eggs. Any form of eggs is good to me. I've never been much of a cereal person. I probably ate them as a kid but I guess it wasn't ever a favorite. I keep cereal on hand in FL for my sisters. They seem to like starting their days that way.

Maryanne...Can you get a volunteer or two to help with the counting? Doing it alone sounds so tedious. Sharing it would be more fun and go faster.

Jean..I hope you get a break from the showers. We have another nice sunny day.

Pam...What are you up to today?

DH has a fit if anyone comes when he's here so now that he's only working 2 days a week, not practical to have anyone in. Also not real practical to have anyone drive here just to count. What I do sometimes is give the most annoying piece to one of the volunteers at the show. She takes it home, counts out, and brings back the next day.

    Today DH actually helped!!!

I'm having a lazy day, reading and watching movies on TV. I've been busy every day, but have very little to show for it, unfortunately. I've been trying to get myself psyched up for having my MIL here for a week while SIL is getting everything moved from El Paso to Houston. I'm not looking forward to her visit since our house really isn't set up for someone who is basically an invalid to stay here. We will have to move a twin bed downstairs and put it in our room, which will be rather awkward, but there really is no other place to have her stay. She can't climb the stairs and our bed is too tall for her to get in and out of safely. We also don't feel that it's safe to leave her downstairs alone, so we can't sleep upstairs in the guest room while she's here. This won't be happening for almost two weeks from now, but I'm a planner, so I'm trying to think through the potential problems and figure out solutions in advance. DH is very little help as he is in complete denial about his mother's condition. Perhaps this time will open his eyes a little and give him more insight into what his sister copes with all of the time.

I've been doing a terrible job lately on the diet front, and not much better on the exercise front, either. It's definitely time to get back into a healthier routine. I want to try to focus on that this week.

Good luck tomorrow, Jean, on your procedure. I've had a bladder scope without anesthesia before and as I recall, it wasn't bad at all. My biggest issue was they wanted to do it with a full bladder, so that was a bit uncomfortable, though not painful. Hopefully, your procedure will be uneventful and pain free.

Pam...I can see why you're no looking forward yo MIL's visit. Can you do an air bed for yourself while's she's using your room? Even if you put it in the living room, you'll be on the same floor for safety. You're probably right that DH will have his eyes opened by having her there. Good luck.

    Good luck for tomorrow Jean.

I had a Skinny Cow caramel; pretzel bat for dessert tonight. I'd forgotten how good those are. And it didn't hurt that it was on sale.

Helene--I also thought of one of those queen sized aero beds.

We had flash floods that have closed the usual road to the city about 10 miles from the city. I will have to take some longer alternate route. More of same in afternoon.

Jean - thinking about you today!!

Pam - wow, you do have a logistics issue. Really great of all of you for taking care of her. I thankfully missed all that with my in-laws and I do know how lucky that was.

Helene - those bars sound great!

I'm off with Jack to VA today so he can have a CT scan and biopsy tomorrow. I hate the drive but at least this is a year without construction on the Capital Beltway (hope I didn't just jinx it).

The calorie count was one sixty. It's a bit more than the NS desserts but I don't like many of the NS desserts. I'm down to ordering mostly the chocolate sandwich cookies. Fortunately, I'm satisfied with just one bar. I have a few friends that find one bar leads to two. I think we're going to head to Kohls today. It's a 30 minute drive but I have a 20% off coupon and DH needs some shirts and pants. I'm sure I'll find something for me too. And TJ's and Whole Foods are right down the street.

Jack's in Fairfax for his CT scan and biopsy tomorrow. Boy I hate leaving him.

I had the NS mac n cheese with sausage for dinner tonight. All I can say is never again.

Good morning, everyone! I had an "exciting" day yesterday. I awakened with plans to go for the procedure but discovered via the news that flash floods had closed the road I normally take to the city. People were being rescued, etc. I decided to take an alternative route which I knew was higher but added a half hour to the trip. There is a reason that people don't normally take the alternative route. It is desolate, deserted, narrow and crooked, etc. I was very happy to reach my destination. Trust me, when I kept expecting to hear banjo music while on that road. That is a reference to one of my favorite movies.

Bottom line is that I arrived at the outpatient surgery center safely. I was able to watch the procedure on the screen while the urologist explained to me everything he was examining inside the bladder. I found it very interesting. There was no sign of the cancer returning, so now I return in January for a repeat test.

We still had severe storms last night in many areas of the state. The flooding has been bad. Two counties near me including one I travel through to the city have been declared disaster areas.

This is an amazing story associated with the storms which shows that teens are sometimes more helpful than adults:

Amazing story about that teen. Many teens are good kids and don't get credit for that, It's nice to see him getting the recognition he deserves. That's wonderful news about your medical procedure. How long will they have to keep testing you? Did you have to do the alternative road home? I went to Kohls yesterday, realized I hasn't brought my credit card which I needed to use the 20% off coupon I got in the mail. I asked about it at the service desk and was told any cashier could look up my account with ID. The clerk I cashier I got was inexperienced and easily confused. He scanned one item twice and had to take that off. Then he forgot to scan my coupon even though I'd handed it to him with my license. He thought $30 in Kohl bucks would fix it. Not really since I get the bucks and often don't make it back to the store to use them. He couldn't fix it so I ended up back with the same woman at the service desk. I thought she'd have to credit everything and start over but the manager told her to do a post sale adjustment. She rang in a 30% discount even though my coupon was only for 20%. And the manager gave me $20 in Kohls cash. I guess they were rewarding me for the inconvenience and thanking me for being pleasant about the original mistake. So everything ended up working out well for me.

Okay, I'm at that age. People in my high school class dying rather routinely. A friend just emailed another obituary. One of my friends has an oncologist who is convinced that the rather high mortality rate in our class of 1968 is due to the fact that so many of us (although not me) worked in the orchards every summer. At that time no one thought twice about running a sprayer down the rows between the trees, spraying the trees, even though kids were in the trees pruning or picking fruit. Even many of my classmates who are still living are cancer survivors.

One thing about this obituary that was interesting was that this guy's whole family - like 8 brothers/sisters and their extended families - all live in the same tiny town where I'm sure they grew up. Why do some of us run like heck to escape small town America and others happily settle in for life? (Rhetorical question I know)

This morning I'm off to pick up Jack. The good news is that the CT scan showed no evidence that the lump on his nose is connected to anything. No big cancerous growth showing in his head. Not even growing into the bone on his nose. Now we await the pathologist report.

I've got an avalanche of cherry tomatoes. I got on google looking for ideas. I definitely want to try roasting them. Wonder if I could get DH to eat roasted tomato sauce on pasta. I already warned him there might be an experiment coming. He hates experiments. LOL!

Jean - that road sounds beyond belief. I'm glad you made it and glad the procedure went well.

Helene - I'm somewhat behind in watching EWL. I think I"m still on last summer's. I don't like the new format as much as I liked the earlier years.

Helene--I think it says something when a teen steps up to rescue a woman when adults didn't. I took my Kohls coupon with me but didn't take time to stop.

Maryanne--Glad the news for Jack is good. I've often wondered about the role of environmental factors, exercise, etc. on our life compared to that of our ancestors. They used to eat all kinds of "unhealthy foods" but didn't seem to acquire the diseases we do, etc. Was it because they worked extensively as they didn't have the modern conveniences?

I just saw this on Facebook: "Everything in your life is a reflection of a choice you have made. If you want a different result, make a different choice." Each day we have choices; think and make the best choice for you.

Jean...What a beautiful photo. Your smile says it all. You just got good news from the doctor.
Maryanne...Don't warn DH that the sauce is different. Just serve it. He may be predisposed to dislike anything new. But id he thinks it's the same old, same old, he night not even notice the difference. Check with you Senior Center. They might love some extra tomatoes to give out to the seniors. Our center gives out bread products from the local supermarkets. I don't know if they'd give out produce but it wouldn't hurt to ask if I had any. Many seniors are on small fixed incomes so they probably skimp on fresh veggies. I'll bet your doctor is right about the orchards. I used to worry about the exterminators who'd spray the library each month. I'd worry about the long term health implications of spraying poisons for a living.
I had pineapple cottage cheese and the NS cranberry oatmeal bites for breakfast. I didn't like the oatmeal bites when they first came out but I guess they've grown on me. You need a cup of coffee with them though because they're a bit dry.

Jean, I love the picture! You have a beautiful smile. I'm so glad your procedure went well, despite the harrowing trip to get there.

So far I've made it to the gym three times this week. I plan to go again tomorrow, but will probably skip Friday since my workout partner won't be there then. I used to always work out alone, but now I really hate going to the gym if I know she won't be there. I can't say I've made much progress on the diet front, but at least I haven't gained any more. Since last week I'm down a couple of pounds, but that isn't unusual for me. My weight often fluctuates by a couple of pounds over the course of a week.

Not much else going on here. I'm not a big fan of raw tomatoes, but I do like the grape variety that Maryanne has so much of. Too bad I'm not close enough to take some of those off your hands!

Good morning, everyone. We have sunshine!!! Thanks for the comments on the picture.

I remember planting a cherry tomato plant once. I had so many little tomatoes that I remembered not to do it again. A little goes a long way.

Pam--Good job on getting to the gym. Congrats upon being down two pounds.

Helene--I've never tried the NS cranberry oatmeal. I might check into that.

Maryanne--I agree on just making the sauce and not telling DH it is different.

They look like a little cookie but they're not particularly sweet. As I said, you need a beverage because they tend to be a little dry but they've grown on me. Since you like oatmeal, these might be a substitute dessert for you. I remember you're not crazy about the real desserts so this might be a better choice.

Okay, I have a pan of cherry tomatoes in the oven hopefully cooking into roasted cherry tomato sauce. No way it's going to look anything like a jar of Bertolli. So I have a red box lasagna for DH!

The recipes are all a little different. I decided to just pick one and see what happens! Not often there is the smell of olive oil and garlic in this house.

Well, that was one failed experiment. The recipe said cook 2-3 hours. Keep in mind I'm working here. At about the hour and 15 minute mark I started checking every 15 minutes. Somehow during one of those 15 minute periods, the tomatoes totally burned.

So we had regular spaghetti sauce.

What temperature were you using. I think you have to use a very low temperature for them. I'd guess around 200 degrees since you're basically dehydrating them. At least you have a lot of them so you can try again. If it works, mix them with the jar sauce so DH doesn't notice the difference.

    Maryanne--Sorry about the tomato experiment.

I'm off to the city today. My niece is having a heart cath and the car needs an oil change and lube job.

I had the last Special K flatbread sandwich for breakfast. I need to restock some things so I might go to WalMart.

I had a good weigh in this morning. I'm down 2.4 so far for the quarter. Only 7.6 more to make goal. LOL. I'm feeling good about my chances of actually making it. I think logging my food here is what's making me so much more consistent than I've been in years. I've lost 8.2 pounds since I got back from FL.
Jean...I hope your niece's procedure goes well.

The recipe called for 350 degrees for 2-3 hours.

I have to go to the vet today to drop off the boxes of mailing. Then go by a volunteer's back porch to drop off her box of mailing and some flea market items and pick up some cat show items. Then to the grocery store!

Still haven't heard from the vet about whether Jack has cancer. It's driving me crazy not knowing.
