Maryanne--Not knowing is nerve wrecking. It is easier to deal with the definite. I discovered a recipe for your little tomatoes: http://www.myrecipes.com/recipe/mini-caprese-bites
Helene--Congrats upon the weight loss; you are doing a super job.
I went to the city today to see my niece who was having a heart cath. When I got home, I discovered my cell was missing. I have to go back to the information desk tomorrow morning to pick it up.0 -
Jean - I do like tomato and mozzarella! Thanks!

I had a good weigh in this morning. I'm down 2.4 so far for the quarter. Only 7.6 more to make goal. LOL. I'm feeling good about my chances of actually making it. I think logging my food here is what's making me so much more consistent than I've been in years. I've lost 8.2 pounds since I got back from FL.
Jean...I hope your niece's procedure goes well.
WAY TO GO!!!0 -
Jean...What an inconvenience about you cell. I'm glad it turned up though.
Maryanne...Are you giving the roasted tomatoes a second shot?I saw the Before Contessa had a recipe and her cokking time was about 20-25 minutes.0 -
Helene--The day has been gorgeous, so I didn't mind a run back to the city to get the cell. I also made a trip to WalMart to pick up some groceries. July is not over but our July is going in the record books as the wettest July on record.
Maryanne--This is a recipe from the Food Network for roasted cherry tomatoes. 20 minutes at 400 degrees:

It dawned upon me that I had an NS order coming around August 8. As a result, I went to apply my Costco gift cards and to check my order. My beloved veggie lasagna is in low inventory status. I order a lot of that as it is much better than the meat lasagna. About one-third of my dinner entrees are lasagna. I have enough Costco cards to last me through next year.0

Jean - good one!
I just ordered my first Christmas presents. On QVC during their Christmas in July event they usually have something cute that comes with 5 items or so each in their own gift box. Purrfect for CROM volunteers along with a card telling them I've made a donation in their name. Today's it's 5 Lenox ornaments, each with their own gift box. About $8 apiece. I ordered two sets; might have to keep one of the penguins for moi! Hee hee....
I might try the cherry tomatoes again if I get time. Sounds like the recipe I was using was way too long. This week is going to be pretty hectic. Right now I'm eating tomatoes either with FF dressing or a little seafood or rotisserie chicken salad. Then for dinner we have plain sliced tomatoes. My mom used to broil tomato slices with a little parmesan. Might do that as well. Remains to be seen if I'll have time for experiments this week. DH would probably be happy if I'd try stewed tomatoes. I'm sure we'll also freeze some to use in chili over the winter.
I also want to pick up some fresh mozzarella to mix with some fresh tomatoes. Of course the fancier I get the less diet friendly it gets.
One packet of FF dressing and a HUGE plate of tomatoes probably fits in best with the diet.

Maryanne--I have to admit that QVC comes up with some useful Christmas gifts that come with packaging, etc. Last year, I got a pack of five Sistema microwavable cups that are absolutely the greatest. I had already had two which I had bought from Amazon. I use these things daily. They have a steam valve on them. I use them for the Progresso Light soups as one hold an entire can, warming up food, etc. I got them for office gifts at school and they have been used continually. These are currently about $7 each on Amazon but I got a package of them from the Q for about the same plus they came with gift packaging. This is the item at Amazon: Sistema 656 ml Soup Mug. They are on clearance at QVC, a package of six for about $27 plus shipping.
I spent part of the morning organized my pill organizer for the week: 8 pills in the am and 6 in the pm. I do my best to contribute to the financial status of the medical community. The last pill that was added contributes to weight gain as a side "benefit."
I had the Kellogg's Special K with strawberries for breakfast for a change. It definitely doesn't not satisfy as well as the Quaker Weight Control oatmeal. I am hungry already despite drinking two glasses of water and a cup of coffee with a second cup of coffee coming up.0 -
Good morning everyone! We had a fun evening last night. A friend invited DH and me to their home for dinner last night. Her DH is an accomplished, competitive barbecue chef and he was smoking ribs yesterday. They wanted to have some friends over to taste-test and compare three different types of ribs. Of course, we were delighted to serve as judges. We declared all three to be winners, along with all the sides and dessert. Afterward we played a game of Catchphrase, with much laughter. It was a really fun, spur of the moment invitation. I was especially glad that it gave my DH a chance to get to know these friends of mine better.
A weird coincidence came up while we were chatting last night. There were three couples, including our hosts. The other couple's daughter is expecting her first child in September and lives in Dallas. She and her husband were going to look at a house today and as my friend was describing the circumstances of this house being for sale, I realized that I know the seller's sister very well. At least, I think it's the same house. The circumstances are too similar for it to be anyone else, but we were unable to confirm it last night. I'm really curious to find out if it's going to pan out for them and my friend's brother. What are the odds that there is another hairdresser in Dallas who owns a very high end salon that he is selling in order to move to Carmel, California, and who owns a town home in this particular area? A town home that is the exact same age and style as my friend's brother, and who has one child that is the same age as his? Too many coincidences, in my opinion. So random.0 -
Pam - my mouth is watering! You're right; that's quite a coincidence.
I actually found mozzarella balls at the grocery store. I'm eyeing the cherry tomato/mozzarella ball recipes.
I also want to break out some of my flame broiled burger stash. LOVE those with tomato slices. I wonder how hamburgers with a side of tomato/mozzarella salad would go over with DH. Hee hee....0 -
Pam--That is an amazing coincidence.
Maryanne--The flame broiled burger with tomato/mozzarella salad sounds like a winner.
So far so good with food today as well as logging it. I'm off to have the Dannon Light and Fit greek yogurt for a snack.0 -
Maryanne...You could put some tomatoes on a skewer and drop them on the grill if you're barbecuing burgers or KC steaks. You could alternate with chunks of squash. That sounds so good I may have to make it myself. I got a BOGO on grape tomatoes the other day.
Jaen...You could do oatmeal for breakfast and use the flatbread sandwich for lunch. Do you know if the heart healthy steaks are still available? I really miss them. I sure hope the lasagna isn't low inventory because they're going to discontinue or re-formulate it. How many time have we seen low inventory lead to that?
Pam...I think that has to be the same condo. The story is too unusual to be 2 sets of people.0 -
Helene--The flatbread sandwich isn't the problem. It is the Special K with strawberries; it is a great change but it isn't loaded with protein like the other options. I haven't seen the heart healthy steak burgers offered for some time.0
-
Well, I came in under the calorie goal. I have room for something else if I get the munchies.0
-
Me too. I cooked fish for dinner so that saved some wiggle room.0
-
It did turn out to be the townhouse owned by my friend's brother. Small world, sometimes!0
-
The heart healthy steaks are still available (I think) but not the heart healthy burgers. I'm still using my stash of NS flame broiled burgers. I didn't buy any of the ones m2marsh found because I thought I'd just buy the heart healthy ones and then they disappeared. But for now my stash will do!

I just returned from a visit to the "vampire," and am downing much needed coffee and breakfast. If I find a good burger substitute, I'll let you know. The Morningstar Veggie burgers aren't bad.0

I see the NS website is redesigned with easy to access features, effective July 22. I just got an email. I find it amazing that I started getting all these emails when at one time all I got would be the email notifying me that my order was shipping. Could it be because I signed up for Numi just to see what it was like?0
-
I don't think so. I don't think I signed up for Numi because nobody had anything good to say about it. I've been getting emails about purchasing shakes and ice creams and I also got the one about Numi today. Maybe they're figuring out they lost a lot of people when they dumped the Boards. I'm guessing a very small percentage went to Numi.0
-
I'm getting the emails, too. I haven't even opened them to see what they say, but the subject lines mostly are about trying to entice me back at very reduced prices. Sorry, not interested.
I'm doing laundry at the moment and I have a visit to the dentist for a teeth cleaning. I'll stop by the grocery store for a few items on my way home. Otherwise, a pretty boring day around here.0 -
Pam--Your boring day is more exciting than mine. I often joke that going to the doctor appointments is a "hot date" for me.
I'm streaming Season 3 of American Horror Story. Jessica Lange has bee inn all seasons portraying different characters, and she looks so different in each season.0 -

Nope, I'm suddenly getting emails too. Very noticeable.0 -
Jack and I are doing a happy dance! He doesn't have cancer. apparently very few esinophils and no real viral load. Just inflammatory cells. The internist suggests not changing his meds at this time.0
-
Apparently DH never had tomato and mozzarella before.
I made this recipe: http://www.seriouseats.com/recipes/2012/08/marinated-mozzarella-cherry-tomato-basil-salad-recipe.html
I used basil paste. Had 1/2 the amount of cheese and tomatoes as they said but used full amount of everything else.
I LOVED it and DH actually sort of liked it.0 -
The heart healthy steaks still exist:http://www.kansascitysteaks.com/Top-Sirloin-Steaks-Certified-by-American-Heart-Association.3.htm
Guess what ad is showing at the bottom of my screen right this second - Kansas City Steaks. LOL!0 -
Maryanne--Kansas City still has the AHA sirloin steaks but no longer carries the steakburgers, which I preferred. Great news about Jack!! Glad you found a recipe that worked!!0

Since DH and I each bought bell peppers this weekend, I'm making shrimp quesadillas for dinner tonight. And probably tomorrow night, and the night after that, lol! We also both bought strawberries, and since he won't eat them, I'm having them twice a day to use them up before they spoil. We have got to start communicating better about our shopping lists.0
-
I'm trying to picture DH buying peppers. Nope, does not compute. Enjoy those quesadillas!0
